Studies of range-wide populations can contribute to the comprehension of the relative roles of historical events and contemporary factors that influence genetic variation within and among *** grenadier anchovy,Coilia nasus,is a commercially important fish,which widely distributes in the Changjiang River,the coasts of China and Korea,and the Ariake Sea of *** species exhibits three life-history strategies(anadromous,landlocked and freshwater resident forms).Using two fragments of nuclear DNA,genetic variation within and among 18 populations across the rivers and coast of China and Ariake Sea of japan was *** of genetic diversity and divergence among populations varied widely across ***'range,and indicated the different effects of historical events and anthropogenic *** genetic divergence between freshwater resident populations and other populations suggested that historical geographical factors greatly influenced the genetic structure of *** genetic differentiation observed among lakes in lower Changjiang River and Huaihe River might be probably influenced by hydraulic *** population genetic structure among the three ecotypes revealed in the present study indicated an important role for environment variation,and the factors responsible for shaping *** different life history strategies might also impact population structure.

Constructing Genetic Linkage Maps Using the Whole Genome Sequence of Pacific Bluefin Tuna (Thunnus orientalis) and a Comparison of Chromosome Structure among Teleost Species

Pacific bluefin tuna (Thunnus orientalis) is one of the most economically important species in the Percomorpha group of teleost fishes. Their migrations are extensive and depend upon continuous swimming at a high rate of speed throughout their life. The draft genome sequence of this species has been reported but remains highly fragmented. We constructed a Pacific bluefin tuna genetic linkage map using microsatellite markers developed on each of the scaffolds from the draft genome sequence to link these genome fragments and understand the genomic structure of species in Percomorpha. Of the 606 polymerase chain reaction microsatellite primer pairs tested, 473 were polymorphic in the mapping populations for the linkage analysis. We constructed sex-specific maps for 24 linkage groups consisting of 470 markers, which allowed us to place scaffolds that cumulatively represented 20.8% (153.8 Mb) of the sequenced genome onto the linkage groups. The distribution of orthologous genes on the chromosomes of tuna and four other teleost fish species suggested that the constitution of tuna chromosomes is closest to that of medaka. Both species have the 24 chromosomes of the ancestral teleost, including several chromosomal inversions. The integrated map developed in this study will be useful to construct a complete physical map to conduct comparative teleost genomics and genetic studies on economically useful traits in Pacific bluefin tuna.

The orbital-scale variability of the Indian summer monsoon(ISM)has been influenced by multiple factors,such as atmospheric CO_(2)concentration,global ice volume,and *** for weathering activity and paleo-productivity provide potential insights into the driving forces of its *** documented multi-proxy data at IODP Site U1445,located in the Mahanadi Basin of the northwestern Bay of Bengal,to find out ISM variability over the last 200 *** proxy records,such as Nd/Sr isotopes of detrital particles,clay mineral compositions of the fine-grained sediments,biogenic opal and CaCO_(3),organic carbon contents,and carbon isotopes of organic matter,represent sediment sources,weathering patterns,and paleo-productivity related to the ISM *** Nd/Sr isotope data and clay mineral compositions suggest that the sediments at Site U1445 originated mainly from the Ganges,Brahmaputra,and Meghna rivers without dramatic provenance change between the glacial and interglacial *** weathering activity inferred from clay mineral compositions and the paleo-productivity shift reconstructed by biogenic opal and CaCO_(3)contents suggest that the land-sea interactions were closely linked to the ISM precipitation between the glacial and interglacial *** precipitation by the strong ISM resulted in intense chemical weathering and dominant biogenic opal deposition during the interglacial *** contrast,low precipitation by the weak ISM led to reduced chemical weathering and predominant CaCO_(3)deposition during the glacial ***,the ISM variability driving the land-sea interactions in the Mahanadi Basin was modulated by the Indonesian throughflow(ITF).Our study emphasizes the role of low-latitude forcing of climatic changes in the strong relationship between the ISM and ITF over orbital periods,providing a base for future investigations.

In November 1992 to February 1993 (IOP TOGA -COARE), many aerosol samples, rainwater samples and dry depesition samples were collected on the vessel Xiangyanghong No. 5 in the ocean area of IOP (2°S, 155°E). The time variations of concentration of crustal elements, sea salt elements are not very large. The dry deposition fluxes of crustal elements are related to the sources of air flows. According to the aerosol samples collected in the western Pacific Oceanduring eight cruises under the China-U. S. joint TOGA project from December 1985 to July 1990 and the aerosol data collected in the Kuroshio ocean area from 1987 to 1991 (China-japan Kuroshio joint-investigation), seasonal average dry deposition fluxes of crustal elements, pollutant elements and sea-salt elements are calculated. It is found that the dry deposition fluxes of elements Fe, Co, Zn and Sb have their highest values in spring in the Kuroshio ocean area because of the influencing of Asian dust-storm. But in the western Pacific ocean they reach the highest values in autumn. In the

Many marine bacteria are difcult to culture because they are dormant,rare or found in *** culturing has been widely tested as an important strategy to isolate rare or dormant ***,many more mechanisms remain ***,based on 16S rRNA gene high-throughput sequencing and metabolomics technology,it was found that the short-chain fatty acids(SCFAs)in metabolites were signifcantly correlated with uncultured bacterial groups during enrichment cultures.A pure culture analysis showed that the addition of SCFAs to media also resulted in high efciency for the isolation of uncultured strains from marine *** a result,238 strains belonging to 10 phyla,26 families and 82 species were successfully *** uncultured rare taxa within Chlorobi and Kiritimatiellaeota were successfully *** the newly isolated uncultured microbes,most genomes,***,possess SCFA oxidative degradation genes,and these features might aid these microbes in better adapting to the culture media.A further resuscitation analysis of a viable but non-culturable(VBNC)Marinilabiliales strain verifed that the addition of SCFAs could break the dormancy of Marinilabiliales in 5 days,and the growth curve test showed that the SCFAs could shorten the lag phase and increase the growth ***,this study provides new insights into SCFAs,which were frst studied as resuscitation factors in uncultured marine ***,this study can help improve the utilisation and excavation of marine microbial resources,especially for the most-wanted or key players.

Autumn intensification of the Ryukyu Current during 2003-2007

Inverse calculations using data from 16 repeat hydrographic transects collected from April 2003 to June 2007 have yielded velocity structures and volume transports(VTs) of the Ryukyu Current in the region east of the northern Ryukyu *** inverse calculation results show that the Ryukyu Current is dominated by a subsurface velocity core with maximum velocities from 15.1 to 80.0 cm/s,whose positions vary between 110 and 600 dbar and 27.2°-28.2°N along the *** mean velocity exhibits a subsurface velocity core with a maximum value of 24.6 cm/s at 326 dbar depth,a VT of 14.0 Sv(1 Sv≡106 m3/s),a vertical dimension of 800 m,and a horizontal dimension of 60 *** seasonal mean velocities show that the Ryukyu Current is stronger in autumn than in other *** is suggested that this seasonal variation is coincident with the intensification of the anticyclonic eddy south of Shikoku,japan.

The japanese common squid Todarodes pacificus is widely distributed in the Sea of japan,the East China Sea and the Northwest Pacific Ocean,and is largely exploited by the Asia-Pacific *** this study,the impacts of regime shift of the Pacific Decadal Oscillation(PDO)during 1977-2015 on the autumn cohort of *** were assessed by examining the variations in vertical water temperatures at depths of 0 m(Temp_0 m),50 m(Temp_50 m)and 100 m(Temp_100 m)and the distribution pattern of preferred spawning ground(SSG).Spatial and temporal correlation analysis revealed that the PDO index exhibited a significantly negative relationship with vertical water temperatures at different depths and was negatively related to catch-per-unit-effort(CPUE)and stock biomass of *** addition,water temperatures in the specific three water layers were positively associated with *** PDO regime shift strongly affected the thermal condition and spawning ground of *** to the negative PDO,the waters from the surface to the deep became cool in the positive PDO phase;correspondingly,the area of SSG largely contracted at different ***,the CPUE and stock biomass of *** profoundly *** the results it can be concluded that the PDO regime shift-driven changes in vertical thermal condition and SSG ranges can yield substantial impacts on *** abundance.

Many marine invertebrate phyla are characterized by indirect *** animals transit from planktonic larvae to benthic spats via settlement and metamorphosis,which contributes to their adaption to the marine *** the biological process of metamorphosis is,thus,key to understanding the origin and evolution of indirect *** numerous studies have been conducted on the relationship between metamorphosis and the marine environment,microorganisms,and neurohormones,little is known about gene regulation network(GRN)dynamics during ***-competent pediveligers of the Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas were assayed in this *** assaying gene expression patterns and open chromatin region changes of different samples of larvae and spats,the dynamics of molecular regulation during metamorphosis were *** results indicated significantly different gene regulation networks before,during and *** encoding membrane-integrated receptors and those related to the remodeling of the nervous system were upregulated before the initiation of *** biogenesis,e.g.,of various enzymes and structural proteins,occurred during metamorphosis as inferred from the comprehensive upregulation of the protein synthesis system post epinephrine *** downstream gene networks were then *** transcription factors,including homeobox,basic helix–loop–helix and nuclear receptors,showed different temporal response patterns,suggesting a complex GRN during the transition *** receptors,as well as their retinoid X receptor partner,may participate in the GRN controlling oyster metamorphosis,indicating an ancient role of the nuclear receptor regulation system in animal metamorphosis.

Evolution of deepwater sedimentary environments and its implication for hydrocarbon exploration in Qiongdongnan Basin, northwestern South China Sea

Over the past several years, a number of hydrocarbon reservoirs have been discovered in the deepwater area of Qiongdongnan Basin, northwestern South China Sea. These oil/gas fields demonstrate that the evolution of the deepwater sedimentary environment are controlling the formation and distribution of large-scale clastic reservoirs. Integration between seismic and borehole data were necessary to best clarify the distribution and quality of these deepwater reservoirs. Geochemical and paleobiological evidence from discrete samples was also applied to document specific information regarding the sedimentary environment. Results show that the Qiongdongnan Basin has existed as a thriving marine environment since Oligocene, when several rifting depressions developed throughout the entire Qiongdongnan Basin. Triggered by the faults activities, several distinct provenances supplied the coarse sediments, transporting and depositing them in deep parts of the rifting depressions. A fan delta system then formed nearby the source in the deeper area of these rifting depressions. The sedimentary environment of Qiongdongnan gradiationally became deepwater since early Miocene. Consequently, abundances of sediments were transported from Hainan Island and Southern Uplift, and then sunk into the basin center. The submarine fans revealed by many boreholes in this area verified them as good reservoir. Because the area reached its lowest sea level at late Miocene and the Southern Uplift subsidenced under sea level, not providing any sediment, so that the carbonate mesa and biorhythms characteristic of this area also developed during this period. In the west part of Qiongdongnan Basin, sediments transported from Vietnam increased in response to the Tibetan Uplift. Consequently, a central canyon developed along the center of Qiongdongnan Basin, which has been confirmed by several boreholes as a favorable hydrocarbon reservoir. Inappropriate e-waste-processing operation is a serious issue in developing countries since the early 2000'*** research was conducted to clarify its influences and diffuse toxic substances in the environment at e-waste-processing sites in a village in northern Vietnam from 2012 to *** investigated surface soil samples collected from e-waste-processing sites,open burning sites,and rice paddy *** samples and water samples were also collected from a river that runs through the *** hazardous metal concentration in soil and river sediment samples indicated that 7 elements(Ca,Cu,Mo,Ni,Pb,Sn,and Zn)had high concentrations as a result of *** notably,Pb and Cu had high concentrations in soil samples(Pb:26e2200 mg/kg,Cu:22e3000 mg/kg).The results of a multivariate analysis indicated that these 7 elements were closely correlated with *** of hazardous metals showed an upward trend where e-waste-processing occurred during the 3-year study period,although it was not significant statistically at *** burning activity had a great influence on Cu accumulation,and maximum Cu concentrations increased from 340 mg/kg in 2012e3000 mg/kg in 2014 in soil samples from open-burning *** were large differences in the dominant hazardous metal depending on the type of e-waste-processing workshop because hazardous metal composition was influenced by the types of e-waste and the processing *** is necessary to avoid e-waste processing in open-air environment to control emissions of hazardous ***,open burning should be prohibited.
