Water quenching blast furnace slag （WQBFS） is widely produced in the blast furnace iron making process. It is mainly co.posed of co., MgO, A1203, and SiO2 with low co.tents of other metal elements such as Fe, Mn, Ti, K and No. In this study, WQBFS was treated with grinding, hydrochloric acid acidification, filtration, filtrate extraction by alkali liquor and a hydration reaction. Then BFS micropowder （BFSMP）, BFS acidified solid （BFSAS） and BFS acid-alkali precipitate （BFSAP） were obtained, which were characterized by X-ray diffrac- tion, scanning electron microsco.y, X-ray fluorescence and Brunauer-Emmet-Teller （BET） specific surface area. The deco.oration efficiency for Methyl Orange （MO） was used to evaluate the adsorptive ability of the three absorbents. The effects of adsorptive reaction co.ditions （pH and temperature of solution, reaction time, sorbent dosage and initial co.centration） on MO removal were also investigated in detail. The results indicated that BFSAP performed better in MO removal than the other two absorbents. When the pH value of MO solutions was in the range 3.0-13.0, the degradation efficiency of a solution with initial MO co.centration of 25 mg/L reached 99.97% for a reaction time of 25 rain at 25℃. The maximum adsorption capacity of BFSAP for MO was 167 mg/g. Based on optimized experiments, the results co.formed with the Langrnuir adsorption isotherm and pseudo-seco.d-order kinetics. Among inorganic anions, SO2- and PO4- had significant inhibitory effects on MO removal in BFSAP treatment due to ion-exchange adsorption.

The Saemangeum project includes well-developed tidal flats, two estuaries of the Mankyeong and Dongjin rivers, and a chain of small iskands in the outer area off the dike by reclaiming a surface area of 40100 ha. A long sea dike of 30 km has been co.structed in the mid-west area of Korea. This paper describes the co.struction of tidal dikes focusing on the final closure operation performed in April, 2006 employing intermediate technology. Predictive modelling was also carried out to predict the real-time flow fields during the gradual closure operation of the final stage.

The occurrence of antibiotic resistance genes(ARGs)in various environments has drawn worldwide attention due to their potential *** studies have reported that a variety of substances can enhance the occurrence and dissemination of ***,few studies have co.pared the response of ARGs under the stress of different organicmatters in biologicalwastewater treatment *** this study,seven organic pollutantswere added into wastewater treatment bioreactors to investigate their impacts on the ARG occurrence in activated *** on high-throughput sequencing,it was found that the microbial co.munities and ARG patterns were significantly changed in the activated sludge exposed to these organic *** with the non-antibiotic refractory organic matters,antibiotics not only increased the abundance of ARGs but also significantly changed the ARG *** increase of Gram-negative bacteria(e.g.,Archangium,Prostheco.acter and Dokdonella)carrying ARGs co.ld be the main cause of ARG *** addition,significant co.occurrence relationships between ARGs and mobile genetic elements were also observed in the sludge samples,which may also affect the ARG diversity and abundance during the organic matter treatment in the ***,these findings provide new information for better understanding the ARG occurrence and dissemination caused by organic pollutants in wastewater treatment systems.

To investigate the cause of fine particulate matter(particles with an aerodynamic diameter less than 2.5 um,PM2.5) pollution in the heating season in the North China Plain(specifically Beijing,Tianjin,and Langfang),water-soluble ions and carbonaceous co.ponents in PM2.5were simultaneously measured by online instruments with 1-hr resolution,from November 15,2016 to March 15,*** results showed extreme severity of PM2.5 pollution on a regional *** inorganic ions(SNA,i.e.,NO3-+So42+NH4+) dominated the water-soluble ions,acco.nting for 30%-40% of PM2.5,while the total carbon(TC,i.e.,OC+EC) co.tributed to 26.5%-30.1% of PM2.5 IN the three *** were mainly responsible for the increasing PM2.5 pollution co.pared with organic matter(OM).NO3-was the most abundant species among water-soluble ions,but SO42- played a much more important role in driving the elevated PM2.5 *** relative humidity(RH) and its precursor SO2 were the key factors affecting the formation of *** reactions dominated the formation of nitrate which was mainly limited by HNO3 in ammonia-rich *** formation and regional transport from the heavily polluted region promoted the growth of PM2.5 co.centrations in the formation stage of PM2.5 pollution in Beijing and *** transport or local emissions,along with seco.dary formation,made great co.tributions to the PM2.5 pollution in the evolution stage of PM2.5 pollution in Beijing and *** favourable meteorological co.ditions and regional transport from a relatively clean region both favored the diffusion of pollutants in all three cities.

Electrode materials with high desalination capacity and long-term cyclic stability are the focus of capacitive deionization(CDI) co.munity. Understanding the causes of performance decay in traditional carbons is crucial to design a high-performance material. Based on this, here, nitrogen-doped activated carbon(NAC) was prepared by pyrolyzing the blend of activated carbon powder(ACP) and melamine for the positive electrode of asymmetric CDI. By co.paring the indicators changes such as co.ductivity, salt adsorption capacity, pH, and charge efficiency of the symmetrical ACP-ACP device to the asymmetric ACP-NAC device under different CDI cycles, as well as the changes of the electrochemical properties of anode and cathode materials after long-term operation, the reasons for the decline of the stability of the CDI performance were revealed. It was found that the carboxyl functional groups generated by the electro-oxidation of anode carbon materials make the anode zero-charge potential(E_(pzc)) shift positively,which results in the uneven distribution of potential windows of CDI units and affects the adsorption capacity. Furthermore, by understanding the electron density on C atoms surrounding the N atoms, we attribute the increased cyclic stability to the enhanced negativity of the charge of carbon atoms adjacent to quaternary-N and pyridinic-oxide-N.

The reduction and reco.ery of P_(2)O_(5)in dephosphorization slag were examined to establish a new recycling process for dephosphorization *** dephosphorization slag is obtained from the dephosphorization furnace in the duplex co.verter process,and the co.tent of P_(2)O_(5) in the dephosphorization slag can reach 9 wt.%.The dephosphorization slag is co.sidered to be a prospective resource of phosphorus due to its high co.tent of P_(2)O_(5).To explore the effects of temperature and Fe2O3 co.tent in slag on phosphorus reco.ery from dephosphorization slag,the experimental slag was reduced by carbon powder in a resistance *** results show that the temperature and co.tent of Fe2O3 in slag have a significant effect on the reduction in P_(2)O_(5),and the reduction and reco.ery ratios of P_(2)O_(5) in slags increase with the increase in the experimental temperature and co.tent of Fe_(2)O_(3),reaching 94.41%and 83.09%,*** has been indicated that phosphorus reco.ery from dephosphorization slag using carbothermic reduction has significant environmental and eco.omic benefits.

Effect of a biological activated carbon filter on particle co.nts

Due to the importance of biological safety in drinking water quality and the disadvantages which exist in traditional methods of detecting typical microorganisms such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia, it is necessary to develop an alternative. Particle co.nts is a qualitative measurement of the amount of dissolved solids in water. The removal rate of particle co.nts was previously used as an indicator of the effectiveness of a biological activated carbon (BAC) filter in removing Cryptosporidium and Giardia. The particle co.nts in a BAC filter effluent over one operational period and the effects of BAC filter co.struction and operational parameters were investigated with a 10 m3/h pilot plant. The results indicated that the maximum particle co.nt in backwash remnant water was as high as 1296 co.nt/ml and it needed about 1.5 h to reduce from the maximum to less than 50 co.nt/ml. During the standard filtration period, particle co.nts stay co.stant at less than 50 co.nt/ml for 5 d except when influ- enced by sand filter backwash remnant water. The removal rates of particle co.nts in the BAC filter are related to characteristics of the carbon. For example, a co.umned carbon and a sand bed removed 33.3% and 8.5% of particles, respectively, while the particle co.nts in effluent from a cracked BAC filter was higher than that of the influent. There is no significant difference among particle removal rates with different filtration rates. High post-ozone dosage (>2 mg/L) plays an important role in particle co.nt removal; when the dosage was 3 mg/L, the removal rates by carbon layers and sand beds decreased by 17.5% and increased by 9.5%, respectively, co.pared with a 2 mg/L dosage.
