Evolution of deepwater sedimentary environments and its implication for hydrocarbon exploration in Qiongdongnan Basin, northwestern South China Sea

Over the past several years, a number of hydrocarbon reservoirs have been discovered in the deepwater area of Qiongdongnan Basin, northwestern South China Sea. These oil/gas fields demonstrate that the evolution of the deepwater sedimentary environment are controlling the formation and distribution of large-scale clastic reservoirs. Integration between seismic and borehole data were necessary to best clarify the distribution and quality of these deepwater reservoirs. Geochemical and paleobiological evidence from discrete samples was also applied to document specific information regarding the sedimentary environment. Results show that the Qiongdongnan Basin has existed as a thriving marine environment since Oligocene, when several rifting depressions developed throughout the entire Qiongdongnan Basin. Triggered by the faults activities, several distinct provenances supplied the coarse sediments, transporting and depositing them in deep parts of the rifting depressions. A fan delta system then formed nearby the source in the deeper area of these rifting depressions. The sedimentary environment of Qiongdongnan gradiationally became deepwater since early Miocene. Consequently, abundances of sediments were transported from Hainan Island and Southern Uplift, and then sunk into the basin center. The submarine fans revealed by many boreholes in this area verified them as good reservoir. Because the area reached its lowest sea level at late Miocene and the Southern Uplift subsidenced under sea level, not providing any sediment, so that the carbonate mesa and biorhythms characteristic of this area also developed during this period. In the west part of Qiongdongnan Basin, sediments transported from Vietnam increased in response to the Tibetan Uplift. Consequently, a central canyon developed along the center of Qiongdongnan Basin, which has been confirmed by several boreholes as a favorable hydrocarbon reservoir. ＜正＞In this study, poly （ether ether ketone）/carbon nanotubes （CNTs） nano composites were fabricated by using multi-walled carbon nanotubes （ MWNTs） as the filler. The addition of 15 wt% MWNTs increased the tensile modulus （0. 1% -0. 3% strain） by 89% and the yield stress by 19%. Scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope images showed that the MWNTs were well dispersed in the matrix. The macroscopic mechanical properties are reasonably explained through direct observation using the in situ scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy.

A Local Ensemble Transform Kalman Filter assimilation system has been implemented into an aerosol-coupled global nonhydrostatic model to simulate the aerosol mass concentration and aerosol optical properties of 3 desert sites(Ansai, Fukang, Shapotou) in northwestern China. One-month experiment results of April 2006 reveal that the data assimilation can correct the much overestimated aerosol surface mass concentration, and has a strong positive effect on the aerosol optical depth(AOD) simulation, improving agreement with observations. Improvement is limited with the?ngstr€om Exponent(AE) simulation, except for much improved correlation coefficient and model skill scores over the Ansai site. Better agreement of the AOD spatial distribution with the independent observations of Terra(Deep Blue) and Multi-angle Imaging Spectroradiometer(MISR) AODs is obtained by assimilating the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS) AOD product, especially for regions with AODs lower than 0.30. This study confirms the usefulness of the remote sensing observations for the improvement of global aerosol modeling.

Recent studies are focusing on the distribution of water mass because the mixture region of water mass is highly related to the rich fishing grounds[Yasuda I.,Watanabe Y.,***.3(3):172–181,1994].Due to the large data size and time-varying property,efficient exploration and visualization of the ocean data is always extremely *** extract the dynamic behaviors of the water mass and its mixture from a large-scale simulated ocean dataset,we developed an efficient visualization system by applying our volume compression method and our volume rendering *** system allows us to investigate the time-varying distributions of ocean physical properties,additionally from the user’s perspective and *** the experiments,we show the generality and expressiveness by applying our system for single-and multi-property visualizations to find some significant ocean water ***,we could obtain a clear visualization result to show the dynamic behaviors of the mixture of water mass for simulation data regarding a location in the northwestern Pacific near japan.

＜正＞An unsteady three-dimensional simulations are performed for hydrogen/air CJ detonation in a rectangular tube, where a detailed reaction model is used to reveal its structure. The simulations clearly show detailed three-dimensional detonation modes: a rectangular mode and a diagonal mode. It turns out that the rectangular mode consists of 2 two-dimensional waves and that its cell length is approximately equal to that of the two-dimensional simulations. The diagonal mode is shown to be a three-dimensional diagonal motion of the lines of the triple points completely. The cell length of the diagonal mode is about 3/4 of those obtained in the two-dimensional and other three-dimensional simulations. The detonation front for both rectangular and diagonal modes becomes various and complicated three-dimensional pattern, and the three-dimensional simulations agree well with the results of the experiments reported by many researchers. Furthermore, the formations of unreacted pockets and vortex rings behind the detonation are captured for the diagonal mode.
