The brokering approach can be successfully used to overcome the crucial question of searching among enormous amount of data （raw and/or processed） produced and stored in different information systems. In this paper, authors describe the Data Management System the DMS （Data Management System） developed by INGV （istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia） to support the brokering system GEOSS （Global Earth Observation System of Systems） adopted for the ARCA （Arctic Present Climate Change and Past Extreme Events） project. This DMS includes heterogeneous data that contributes to the ARCA objective （***） focusing on multi-parametric and multi-disciplinary studies on the mechanism （s） behind the release of large volumes of cold and fresh water from melting of ice caps. The DMS is accessible directly at the ***, or through the IADC （Italian Arctic Data Center） at http：//***/iadc/gi-portal/*** that interoperates with the GEOSS brokering system （http：//***0 making easy and fast the search of specific data set and its URL.

Astrocytes,the main population of glial cells in the central nervous system(CNS),exert essential tasks for the control of brain tissue homeostasis,supporting neuron and other glial cell activity from the developmental stage to adult *** maintain the optimal functionality of the brain,astroglial cells are particularly committed to reacting to every change in tissue homeostatic conditions,from mild modifications of the physiological environment,a process called astrocyte activation,to the more severe alterations occurring in pathological situations causing astrocyte reactivity or reactive astrogliosis(Escartin et al.,2021).During these reactive states,astrocytes mount an active,progressive response encompassing morphological,molecular,and interactional remodeling,leading to the acquisition of new functions and the loss of others,whose intensity,duration,and reversibility are dependent on the nature of the stimulus and regulated in a context-specific manner.

Intra-cycle depolarization of ultraintense laser pulses focused by off-axis parabolic mirrors

A study of the structure of the electric and magnetic fields of ultraintense laser pulses focused by an off-axis parabolic mirror is reported. At first, a theoretical model is laid out, whose final equations integration allows the space and time structure of the fields to be retrieved. The model is then employed to investigate the field patterns at different times within the optical cycle, for off-axis parabola parameters normally employed in the context of ultraintense laser–plasma interaction experiments. The results show that nontrivial, complex electromagnetic field patterns are observed at the time at which the electric and magnetic fields are supposed to vanish. The importance of this effect is then studied for different laser polarizations, f numbers and off-axis angles.

Metrically measuring liver biopsy:A chronic hepatitis B and C computer-aided morphologic description

AIM： To describe a quantitative analysis method for liver biopsy sections with a machine that we have named ＂Dioguardi Histological Metriser＂ which automatically measures the residual hepatocyte mass （including hepatocytes vacuolization）, inflammation, fibrosis and the loss of liver tissue ***： We analysed digitised images of liver biopsy sections taken from 398 patients, The analysis with Dioguardi Histological Metriser was validated by comparison with semi-quantitative scoring ***： The method provides：（1） the metrical extension in two-dimensions （the plane） of the residual hepatocellular set, including the area of vacuoles pertinent to abnormal lipid accumulation; （2） the geo- metric measure of the inflammation basin, which distinguishes intra-basin space and extra-basin dispersed parenchymal leukoo/tes; （3） the magnitude of collagen islets, （which were considered truncated fractals and classified into three degrees of magnitude）; and （4） the tectonic index that quantifies alterations （disorders） in the organization of liver tissue. Dioguardi Histological Metriser machine allows to work at a speed of 0.1 mm^2/s, scanning a whole section in 6-8 ***： The results are the first standardized metrical evaluation of the geometric properties of the parenchyma, inflammation, fibrosis, and alterations in liver tissue tectonics of the biopsy sections. The present study confirms that biopsies are still valuable, not only for diagnosing chronic hepatitis, but also for quantifying changes in the organization and order of liver tissue structure.

Constraints on the geodynamic evolution of the Africa-Iberia plate margin across the Gibraltar Strait from seismic tomography

Geophysical studies point to a complex tectonic and geodynamic evolution of the Alboran Basin and Gulf of Cadiz. Tomograpbic images show strong seismic waves velocity contrasts in the upper mantle. The high velocity anomaly beneath the Alboran Sea recovered by a number of studies is now a well estab- lished feature. Several geodynamic reconstructions have been proposed also on the base of these images. We present and elaborate on restllts coming from a recent tomography study which concentrates on both the Alboran and the adjacent Atlantic region. These new results, while they confirm the existence of the fast anomaly below the Alboran region, also show interesting features of the lithosphere-asthenosphere system below the Atlantic. A high velocity body is imaged roughly below the Horseshoe Abyssal plain down to sub-lithospheric depths. This feature suggests either a possible initiation or relic subduction. Pronounced low velocity anomalies pervade the upper mantle below the Atlantic region and separate the lithospheres of the two regions. We also notice a strong change of the upper mantle velocity structure going from south to north across the Gorringe Bank. This variation in structure could be related to the different evolution in the opening of the central and northern Atlantic oceans.

Application of a Robust Model Reference Adaptive Control Algorithm to a Nonlinear Automotive Actuator

Model reference adaptive control is a viable control method to impose the demanded dynamics on plants whose parameters are affected by large uncertainty. In this paper, we show by means of experiments that robust adaptive methods can effectively face nonlinearities that are common to many automotive electromechanical devices. We consider here, as a representative case study, the control of a strongly nonlinear automotive actuator. The experimental results confirm the effectiveness of the method to cope with unmodeled nonlinear terms and unknown parameters. In addition, the engineering performance indexes computed on experimental data clearly show that the robust adaptive strategy provides better performance compared with those given by a classical model-based control solution with fixed gains.

Natural gas and biofuel as feedstock for hydrogen productionon Ni catalysts

In this article, the aptitude of natural gas as feedstock in steam reforming process for hydrogen production is compared with that of different liquid fuels （pure compounds and commercial fuels）, with the aim to investigate the potentialities of biofuels to overcome the CO2 emission problems deriving from fossil fuel processing. The performances of a nickel based catalyst （commercially used in steam reforming of natural gas） were evaluated in terms of feed conversion and yield to the different products as function of temperature, space velocity and water/fuel ratio. Furthermore, a preliminary evaluation of catalyst durability was effected by monitoring yield to H2 versus time on stream and measuring coke formation at the end of experimental tests. High yields to hydrogen were obtained with all fuels investigated, whereas the deactivation phenomena, which are correlated to carbon deposition on the catalyst, were observed with all tested fuels, except for methane and biofuel.
