The structure of electroslag remelting-type CaF_(2)–CaO–Al_(2)O_(3)–CeO_(2)slag with various CaO/Al_(2)O_(3)mass ratios and its correlation with viscosity and surface tension were *** Raman analysis of the slag shows that with increasing CaO/Al_(2)O_(3)mass ratio from 0.70 to 1.29 in the slag,the polymerization degree of the slag decreased,which was because more complex[AlO_(4)]-tetrahedral units of Q_(Al)^(3) and Q_(Al)^(4)were depolymerized to form relatively simpler structural units Q_(Al)^(0),Q_(Al)^(1),and Q_(Al)^(2),and the excess oxygen ions introduced by CaO promoted the transformation of[AlO_(4)]-tetrahedral units to[AlO_(6)]-octahedral *** CaO/Al_(2)O_(3)mass ratio has an obvious effect on reducing the viscosity and activation energy for viscous flow of the slag,resulting from the depolymerization of the *** to the decrease in the polymerization degree and the increase in the total Ca^(2+)content of the slag,the surface tension of the slag increases with the increase in CaO/Al_(2)O_(3)mass *** surface tension of the slag changes slightly with the temperature,irrespective of CaO/Al_(2)O_(3)mass ratio from 0.70 to 1.29 in the slag.

It is necessary for the sintering process to carry out cleaner production, which is also of great significance to the iron and steel enterprises of a long-flow process. According to the cleaner production standard recently issued by China＇ s Ministry of Environmental Protection, the research detailed in this study has analyzed and estimated the level of cleaner production at Baosteel in the aspects of technical equipment, resource and energy utilization, product quality, emissions, recycling and environmental management, etc. The research also expatiated some effective measures with which cleaner production can be carried out in Baosteel＇s sintering process, and discovered some potential opportunities of cleaner production.

The integrated processing of chromizing and austempering(termed chro-austempering)treatments was *** microstructure and properties of a medium-carbon high-strength bainitic steel treated by chro-austempering treatments were investigated by metallography,scanning vibrating electrode technique,electrochemical workstation,and microhardness *** results show that the high-strength bainitic steel with carbide-free bainite as matrix and the chromized layers on surfaces was successfully fabricated by chro-austempering *** hardness of surface layers was about 3.5 times that of the bainite ***,the corrosion started from exposed bainitic matrix and proceeded along the depth direction,testifying that the surface corrosion resistance was significantly improved by chro-austempering treatment due to the formation of Cr_(7)C_(3)and(Cr,Fe)7_(7)C_(3)on the surface.

As nickel is mainly used to produce stainless steel, the demand for nickel is increasing. With the steady decline of nickel sulfide ore reserves, laterite will become the main source of nickel. In regards to China＇ s current blast furnace method of producing pig low Ni iron with laterite, this study analyzed the technical characteristics and relevant problems of this process based on the discussion on the characteristics of laterite. The study aims to provide a reference for the better use of laterite in China.

In this study, the relationship between hearth wall erosion and deadman permeability was investigated based on the change in the hearth bottom and hearth sidewall temperatures. Additionally, the operation practice for controlling hearth wall erosion in the large No. 1 blast furnace at Baosteel was also investigated. The reasons for the decrease in the permeability of deadman coke were analyzed, and measures for improving the permeability of deadman coke and controlling hearth wall temperature rising were described. The results show that a decrease in deadman coke permeability is the main reason for refractory temperature increase and hearth wall erosion. This indicates the importance of monitoring changes in hearth working conditions and taking appropriate measures to maintain sufficient permeability of the deadman and balance the hot metal flow and drainage of slag. At this rate, the decline in the hearth bottom temperature and fast rising of the hearth wall temperature can be restrained.

The ceramic filter in continuous casting tundish can effectively improve the cleanliness of high-performance steel by regulating tundish flow field to promote the removal of inclusions and adsorbing or blocking fine inclusions in the molten steel into the *** interaction between microporous magnesia refractories used as tundish filter and molten interstitial-free(IF)steel at 1873 K was investigated to reveal the formation mechanism of their interface layer and its effect on steel cleanliness by laboratory research and thermodynamic *** results show that the magnesium–aluminum spinel layer at the interface between the molten IF steel and the microporous magnesia refractories is formed mainly by the reaction of MgO in the refractory with the[Al]and[O]in the molten steel,significantly reducing the total O content,the size and amount of inclusions of the molten *** addition,the interparticle phases of microporous magnesia refractories at high temperature can adsorb Al_(2)O_(3) and TiO_(2) inclusions in the molten steel into interparticle channels of the refractories to form high melting point spinel,impeding the further penetration of the molten *** a result,the consecutive interface layer of high melting point spinel between microporous magnesia refractories and molten steel can improve the cleanliness of the molten steel by adsorbing inclusions in the molten steel and avoid the direct dissolution of refractories of the tundish ceramic filter immersed in the molten steel,increasing their service life.

The COREX process is a unique industrialized smelting reduction technology for iron-making presently in the world. One of its striking characteristics is its ability to directly utilize lump coal as its main fuel. Therefore, the COREX process uses little,or no coke at all. The requirements on lump coal for the COREX process were given in this paper. In order to reduce the coke consumption and give play to the advantages of directly using lump coal ,the appropriate ratio of coke to lump coal needs to be determined. This paper also summerized several advanced methods of using powdered coal generated by the transporting, loading and unloading of lump coal. In order to solve the lack of coal types for COREX and observe the cracking and devolatilization action of lump coal in the melter-gasifier, an experimental device and a new method were proposed to test the cracking and devolatilization characteristics of lump coal. By means of the new method, the devolatilization and cracking behaviors of lump coal can be investigated, which is helpful to the selection of lump coal for the COREX process.

The microporous magnesia refractory shows a promising application prospect as tundish lining due to excellent thermal insulation and slag *** effect of interaction between microporous magnesia castable and 38CrMoAl steel containing 0.876 wt.%Al on the cleanliness of 38CrMoAl steel was studied and compared with that of fused magnesia *** results show that the micropores in the microporous magnesia castable can promote the formation of dense and continuous MgO-Al_(2)O_(3)layer,which can inhibit the further pollution of molten steel by refractories,whereas the MgO-Al_(2)O_(3)layer formed in test of fused magnesia castable is not *** 30 min holding,the total oxygen content in the steel samples for the test of microporous magnesia castable is only 42.2%of that for the test of fused magnesia *** inclusions in the steel samples for the test of microporous magnesia castable are also less than those for the test of fused magnesia *** shows that microporous magnesia castable is a promising tundish refractory for the preparation of clean high-Al steel.

Analysis of the factors affecting the fuel rate in the COREX process and improvement measures

Increasing production capacity and operating rate, reducing fuel rates and costs of hot metal （HM） are the urgent tasks for the COREX process. In this study ,the various factors on the fuel consumption of COREX are researched from the theoretical analysis based on the calculations of material balances and heat balances. Combined with the production performances and practices of COREX-2000 （ Saldanha, India） and COREX-3000 （ Baosteel ）, the technical measures of reducing the fuel rate are analyzed and the way forward of technical innovation is addressed and discussed with the standpoint of the COREX process improvement.
