Investigation into characteristics of the char bed in the melter gasifier through tuyere probing

Tuyere coke probing was conducted at the Baosteel Corex Plant in order to gain a better understanding of the structure of the char bed in the melter gasifier （ MG ）. After screening, the specimens were observed by an optical microscope to determine the mechanism of the char bed formation. X-ray diffraction （XRD） was used to clarify the degree of graphitization and infer thermal history of coke. The results show that the amount of powder coming from lump coal in the burden is much more than that from coke. Based on this, measures for improving the char bed＇ s permeability are proposed.

The optimal composition of a CaO-SiO_(2)-Al_(2)O_(3)-MgO slag in the ladle furnace refining process was investigated to precisely control the contents of[0]and[Si]and improve the cleanliness of 30Cr2Ni4MoV *** iso-[O]lines and iso-[Si] lines of the equilibrium between the CaO-SiO_(2)-Al_(2)O_(3)-MgO refining slag and 30Cr2Ni4MoV steel at 1873 K were calculated by the thermodynamic software FactSage 7.3,and the activities of SiO_(2),Al_(2)O_(3)and CaO in the refining slag were discussed to achieve the optimal composition range of the refining ***,combined with high-temperature"slag-steel"equilibrium experiments,the effects of different refining slags on the oxygen contents,chemical composi-tions,quantities and sizes of inclusions in steels were studied,and then the thermody namic formation mechanism of MgAl_(2)O_(4) inclusions in 30Cr2Ni4MoV steel was *** results showed that the contents of dissolved[O]nd[Si]in steel can be controlled below 10 × 10^(-6)and 0.05%.respectively;when the slag basicity is above *** CaO/Al_(2)O_(3)ratio is above *** the mass fraction of SiO_(2)in the slag docs not cxcced 7%.The chemical composition of the slag has a great influence on the removal and composition of *** assessed stability phase diagrams of ***_(2)O_(3)and MgOAl_(2)O_(3) inclusion formation in the Fe-Al-Mg-O system calculated by FactSage 7.3 show good agreement with the experimental results.

Nowadays,there are two major trends,which are the increasing blast furnace （BF） working volume and the decreasing fuel resource as well as the decline in its quality,in the ironmaking filed. The two trends lead to the difficulty in the BF operation. The decline of the BF stability requires higher and more elaborate operational techniques. A reasonable and compatible BF comprehensive operating system,as the base of the BF stabilization,is desired to satisfy the demand of large-scaled BF developments. Based on the practical operation of Baosteel No. 3 BF in 2010, the present work analyzes and discusses the basic rules of large-scaled BF stable control techniques,and further optimizes and improves its gas flow control techniques, develops strategies against the decline in fuel quality, which will contribute to the promotion of largescaled BF operational techniques progress.

Effect of Fe2O3 on the size and components of spinel crystals in the CaO–SiO2–MgO–Al2O3–Cr2O3 system

size of spinel crystals in the CaO–SiO2–MgO –Al2O3–Cr2O3 system was investigated using lab experiments carried out in a carbon tube furnace. Scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy（SEM–EDS） and X-ray diffraction（XRD） were used to analyze the microstructure, components, and the mineral phases of synthetic slags. FactS age 7.1 was used to calculate the crystallization process of the molten slag. The results showed that the addition of Fe2O3 promoted the precipitation of spinel crystals and inhibited the formation of dicalcium silicate. The size of spinel crystals increased from 2.74 to 8.10 μm and the contents of chromium and iron in the spinel varied as the Fe2O3 addition was increased from 0 to 20 wt%. Fe2O3 thermodynamically provided the spinel-forming components to enhance the formation of FeCr2O4, MgFe2O4, and Fe3O4. The addition of Fe2O3 increased the fraction of liquid phase in a certain temperature range and promoted diffusion by decreasing the slag’s viscosity. Therefore, Fe2O3 is beneficial to the growth of spinel crystals in stainless steel slag.

Morphological transformation of elongated MnS inclusions in non-quenched and tempered steel during isothermal heating

Elongated MnS inclusions in rolled non-quenched and tempered steel tend to cause the mechanical anisotropy of steel,deteriorate the mechanical properties and degrade the quality and service life of the steel *** reveal the mechanisms of morphological transformation of strip-shaped MnS inclusions during isothermal heating,the effects of heat treatment time and temperature on the morphology,number density and size distribution of elongated MnS inclusions were systematically studied and discussed.A diffusion couple experiment was also conducted to clarify the diffusion mode of MnS *** experimental results showed that with the increase in isothermal heating time(from 0 to 10 h at 1473 K)and temperature(from 1173 to 1573 K for 3.0 h),the number density and average aspect ratio of MnS inclusions generally showed an increase and decrease trend,respectively,while the area fraction remained stable and only slightly fluctuated around 0.4%.In the diffusion couple,after the isothermal heating at 1473 K for 3.0 h,the elements Mn and S in the steel near the steel-MnS interface were very stable without any concentration *** morphology change sequence of the elongated MnS inclusions in the rolled non-quenched and tempered steel during the isothermal heating was strip→cylinderization→spindle→*** between the diameter of MnS inclusion and the spacing between two MnS inclusions after splitting,and the fitting goodness of different n values under different experimental time and temperature confirmed that the driving force for the transformation of MnS inclusions during the isothermal heating was surface diffusion,instead of volume diffusion.

Following the dramatic increase of iron and steel output ,iron ore is increasingly in short supply ,and the quality of blast furnace （BF） raw materials is increasingly inferior. All these factors have a strong impact on the BF operation. According to the analysis of the raw material properties at Baosteel and the combination of the BF smelting mechanism and its operational practice, this study probes into the operational countermeasures for dealing with the change of raw materials and puts forward optimized BF control technology to ensure the operation of BFs is stable and smooth.

Pitting corrosion behavior of Ce treated HSLA steels induced by sulfide inclusions in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution was investigated with potentiodynamic polarization and immersion corrosion *** results show that Ce added steels exhibit better pitting corrosion resistance with lower corrosion current density and bigger pitting potential compared with steel without Ce,which is mainly attributed to optimized characteristics of spherical Ce-oxysulfide inclusions with less number density,smaller average size and lower pitting corrosion *** spherical Ce_(2)O_(2) S inclusions precipitated on the surface of CeAlO_(3) inclusions in the Ce added steels induce pits with bigger opening mouth and shallow depth,reducing their tendency of extension to go deeper due to occlusion corrosion battery in the pitting ***,corrosion inhibitor Ce(OH)_(3) generated by Ce_(2)O_(2) S hydration can weaken electrochemical corrosion of the matrix micro-region around the *** avoid harmful bigger inclusions,Ce content in steels should be regulated within reasonable range,0.015 wt% Ce in present steels effectively modified inclusions to acquire the best pitting corrosion resistance of the steels.

Mechanisms of interfacial reactions between 316L stainless steel and MnO-SiO_(2) oxide during isothermal heating

Diffusion couple experiments were performed to study the thermodynamic and kinetic mechanisms of interfacial reactions between the 316L stainless steel and the composite MnO-SiO_(2) oxide during isothermal heating at 1473 K(1200℃)for 1,3,5,and 10 h and at 1173,1273,1373,1473,and 1573 K(900,1000,1100,1200,and 1300℃)for 3 *** variations in the 316L stainless steel and the composite MnO-SiO_(2) oxide in the vicinity of the steel-oxide interface in each diffusion couple specimen were *** and after isothermal heating,thermodynamic equilibria between the oxide and steel at the interface were estimated in accordance with the calculation of the Gibbs free energy change in the interfacial steel-oxide *** diffusion coefficients of Mn,Cr,and Si in 316L stainless steel under different experimental conditions were quantitatively *** results showed that solid-state interfacial reactions occurred between the Cr in the 316L stainless steel and composite MnO-SiO_(2) oxide during isothermal heating,which resulted in the depletion of Cr and accumulation of Si and Mn in the steel in the vicinity of the steel-oxide *** widths of the Crdepleted zone,Mn-accumulated zone and Si-accumulated zone all showed increasing trends with increasing isothermal heating temperature and *** average values of the diffusion coefficients of Mn,Cr,and Si in the steel at 1473 K(1200℃)were 1.21×10^(^(-14))±2.96×10^(-15),1.69×10^(-14)±2.54×10^(-15),and 1.00×10^(-14)±1.96×10^(-15) m^(2)s^(-1),respectively,and they continued to increase with increasing isothermal heating temperature.
