Effect of transcranial direct current stimulation on supernumerary phantom limb pain in spinal cord injured patient:A case report

BACKGROUND Supernumerary phantom limb(SPL)sensation is the experience of additional limbs,either single or a pair of *** to traumatic spinal cord injuries,we report effect of transcranial direct current stimulation(tDCS)on SPL pain in a patient with cervical cord *** SUMMARY The subject was a 57-year-old man who was diagnosed with complete spinal cord injury(C6/C5,motor level;C5/C5,sensory level;AIS-A)approximately three months *** a period of 2 wk,we administered anodal tDCS over the motor cortex for 15 minutes at an intensity of 1.5 *** that treatment,the patient experienced a decrease of SPL pain intensity and frequency,which lasted for 1 week after the end of *** Targeting the motor cortex through neuromodulation appears to be a promising option for the management of SPL pain.

The applications of hydrogels have expanded significantly due to their versatile,highly tunable properties and breakthroughs in biomaterial *** this review,we cover the major achievements and the potential of hydrogels in therapeutic applications,focusing primarily on two areas:emerging cell-based therapies and promising non-cell therapeutic *** the context of cell therapy,we discuss the capacity of hydrogels to overcome the existing translational challenges faced by mainstream cell therapy paradigms,provide a detailed discussion on the advantages and principal design considerations of hydrogels for boosting the efficacy of cell therapy,as well as list specific examples of their applications in different disease *** then explore the potential of hydrogels in drug delivery,physical intervention therapies,and other non-cell therapeutic areas(e.g.,bioadhesives,artificial tissues,and biosensors),emphasizing their utility beyond mere delivery ***,we complement our discussion on the latest progress and challenges in the clinical application of hydrogels and outline future research directions,particularly in terms of integration with advanced biomanufacturing *** review aims to present a comprehensive view and critical insights into the design and selection of hydrogels for both cell therapy and noncell therapies,tailored to meet the therapeutic requirements of diverse diseases and situations.

Incidence and predictors of futile recanalisation after endovascular therapy in acute vertebrobasilar artery occlusion patients:insight from the ANGEL-ACT registry

Objectives To identify the occurrence rate and predictors of futile recanalisation after endovascular therapy(EVT)for acute vertebrobasilar artery occlusion(VBAO).Methods Participants of the Endovascular Treatment Key Technique and Emergency Workflow Improvement of Acute Ischaemic Stroke(ANGEL-ACT)registry were selected for the *** recanalisation was defined as patients did not achieve a 90-day good outcome(modified Rankin Scale≤3)despite successful recanalisation(modified Treatment in Cerebral Ischaemia Scale≥2b)after the *** logistic regression analysis was conducted to find independent predictors of futile recanalisation in VBAO patients undergoing *** Three hundred and fifteen patients with VBAO who achieved successful recanalisation after EVT were included in current analysis,of whom,155(49.2%)suffered futile recanalisation,and 160 achieved effective *** the multivariable analysis,we found admission National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale(NIHSS)≥19(OR 4.81,95%CI 2.76 to 8.39,p<0.001),platelet-lymphocyte ratio(PLR)≥162.2(OR 1.93,95%CI 1.14 to 3.27,p=0.001),onset-to-puncture time(OTP)≥334min(OR 2.15,95%CI 1.25 to 3.68,p=0.005)and use of general anesthesia(GA)(OR 1.87,95%CI 1.09 to 3.22,p=0.024)were associated with futile *** Futile recanalisation after EVT occurred 49.2%of VBAO patients in the ANGEL-ACT ***≥19,PLR≥162.2,OTP≥334min and use of GA were independent predictors of futile recanalisation.

Neonicotinoid insecticides(NEOs)have been extensively approved for application in agricultural production both in China and *** studies indicated that human exposure to NEOs would have adverse health ***,studies on occurrences of NEOs in kidney injury patients and their association with nephrotoxicity are *** study investigates the potential correlation between exposure to NEOs and kidney injury within a subset(n=224)of the population residing in South *** of 8 NEOs and 5 metabolites were quantified in blood samples obtained from both the 110 healthy and 114 kidney injury cohorts in South *** found that target analytes were frequently detected in samples from the healthy and kidney injury cohorts(61%-100%).Dinotefuran is the predominant NEO in the healthy(42.3%)and kidney injury cohort(49.6%).Significantly positive(p<0.05)associations between blood NEO concentrations and kidney injury were found,indicating that these pollutants may increase the odds of human kidney injury *** multilinear regression analysis,it was observed that the concentrations of various NEOs exhibited a significant association(p<0.05)with hematological parameters linked to *** study represents the pioneering investigation examining the relationships between NEOs and kidney injury,thereby offering novel insights into the nephrotoxicity associated with these *** discovery carries significant implications for public health policies and environmental conservation practices.

The safety and effectiveness of magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound thalamotomy has been broadly established and validated for the treatment of essential *** 2018,the first magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound system in Chinese mainland was installed at the First Medical center of the PLA General *** prospective,single center,open-label,single-arm study was part of a worldwide prospective multicenter clinical trial(*** Identifier:NCT03253991)conducted to confirm the safety and efficacy of magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound for treating essential tremor in the local *** 2019 to 2020,10 patients with medication refractory essential tremor were recruited into this open-label,single arm *** treatment efficacy was determined using the Clinical Rating Scale for *** was evaluated according to the incidence and severity of adverse *** of the subjects underwent a unilateral thalamotomy targeting the ventral intermediate *** the baseline assessment,the estimated marginal mean of the Clinical Rating Scale for Tremor total score was 58.3±3.6,and this improved after treatment to 23.1±6.4 at a 12-month follow-up assessment.A total of 50 adverse events were recorded,and 2 were defined as *** most common intraoperative adverse events were nausea and *** most frequent postoperative adverse events were paresthesia and equilibrium *** of the adverse events were mild and usually disappeared within a few *** findings suggest that magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound for the treatment of essential tremor is effective,with a good safety profile,for patients in Chinese mainland.

The journey to implement cancer genomic medicine(CGM)in oncology practice began in the 1980s,which is considered the dawn of genetic and genomic cancer *** the time,a variety of activating oncogenic alterations and their functional significance were unveiled in cancer cells,which led to the development of molecular targeted therapies in the 2000s and *** CGM is still a relatively new discipline and it is difficult to predict to what extent CGM will benefit the diverse pool of cancer patients,the National Cancer center(NCC)of Japan has already contributed considerably to CGM advancement for the conquest of *** back at these past achievements of the NCC,we predict that the future of CGM will involve the following:1)A biobank of paired cancerous and non-cancerous tissues and cells from various cancer types and stages will be *** quantity and quality of these samples will be compatible with omics *** biobank samples will be linked to longitudinal clinical information.2)New technologies,such as whole-genome sequencing and artificial intelligence,will be introduced and new bioresources for functional and pharmacologic analyses(e.g.,a patient-derived xenograft library)will be systematically deployed.3)Fast and bidirectional translational research(bench-to-bedside and bedside-to-bench)performed by basic researchers and clinical investigators,preferably working alongside each other at the same institution,will be implemented;4)Close collaborations between academia,industry,regulatory bodies,and funding agencies will be established.5)There will be an investment in the other branch of CGM,personalized preventive medicine,based on the individual's genetic predisposition to cancer.
