BACKGROUND Esophageal carcinoma(EC)presents a significant public health issue in China,with its prognosis impacted by myriad *** creation of a reliable prog-nostic model for the overall survival(OS)of EC patients promises to greatly advance the customization of treatment *** To create a more systematic and practical model that incorporates clinically significant indicators to support decision-making in clinical *** This study utilized data from a prospective longitudinal cohort of 3127 EC patients treated at Chongqing University Cancer Hospital between January 1,2018,and December 12,*** the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression alongside multivariate Cox regression analyses helped pinpoint pertinent variables for constructing the *** efficacy was assessed by concordance index(C-index),area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUC),calibration curves,and decision curve analysis(DCA).RESULTS Nine variables were determined to be significant predictors of OS in EC patients:Body mass index(BMI),Karnofsky performance status,TNM stage,surgery,radiotherapy,chemotherapy,immunotherapy,platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio,and albumin-to-globulin ratio(ALB/GLB).The model demonstrated a C-index of 0.715(95%CI:0.701-0.729)in the training cohort and 0.711(95%CI:0.689-0.732)in the validation *** the training cohort,AUCs for 1-year,3-year,and 5-year OS predictions were 0.773,0.787,and 0.750,respectively;in the validation cohort,they were 0.772,0.768,and 0.723,respectively,illustrating the model's *** curves and DCA verified the model's predictive accuracy and net *** A novel prognostic model for determining the OS of EC patients was successfully developed and validated to help clinicians in devising individualized treatment schemes for EC patients.

Lake water levels are an important indicator of water balance and water cycles,and are essential for climate and environmental change studies and water resource ***,lake level measurements are scarce or inconsistent throughout the country,and traditional gauge measurements of many lakes are not feasible,so satellite altimetry is a vital alternative to gauge lake ***,the accuracy and sam-pling frequency of lake level time series are usually low because of time and space coverage limitations;therefore,it is necessary to utilize multialtimeter data to monitor lake levels and obtain lake level changes over long time *** this study,we extracted the water level changes in 988 lakes(>10 km^(2))in China between 2002 and 2023 based on ICESat/-2,Cryosat-2,Jason-1/2/3,and Sentinel-3A/3B altimetry data using waveform retracking,lake level extraction,lake level time series construction,the fusion of multi-altimeter lake level time series,and outlier removal.A total of 55%of the lakes in this dataset have been monitored for more than 10 years,and 34%have more than 12 times the annual average water level *** the same time,in situ data from 21 lakes were used for validation,and the average root mean square error(RMSE)for each of the datasets of ICESat/-2,Cryosat-2,Jason-1/2/3,and Sentinel-3A/3B versus the in situ lake levels are 0.223 m,0.163 m,0.207 m,0.596 m,0.295 m,0.275 m,0.243 m,and 0.317 m,respectively,and the mean RMSE of the fused lake levels reaches 0.332 *** the monitoring period,the water levels in Chinese lakes generally *** overall annual average rate of change at the 20 and 10-year scales was 0.123 m/a and 0.151 m/a,respectively,among which the overall water levels in large lakes increased *** lakes with a faster rate of decline in the water level were primarily *** water storage in each lake region in China shows an upward trend,with the most significant increase in the Tibetan Plateau reg

Deep-sea mining may disturb the water column environment,including the surface water and deep-sea,and these disturbances should be carefully *** sensing provides high-resolution and accurate long-term observations in the area around deep-sea *** from mining ships can be identified within few days from satellite observations based on changes in reflectance.A pioneer twomonth experimental deep-sea mining cruise was conducted by The Metal Company in the eastern Pacific Ocean from September 15 to November 17,2022.A report from Greenpeace indicated incidents of surface discharge and leakage during this mining *** this study,satellite observations captured a clear signal over the surface water from September 24 to October 28,indicating the location with discharged water from the *** number of pixels where the potential discharged water was identified in the satellite imagery ranged from 4 to *** discharged water was transported by the combined effects of wind and currents,locating continuously to the downwind side of the mothership's mooring *** sensing provides a timely and accurate monitoring system for tracking water discharge during deep-sea mining.

SDGSAT-1,the world's first science satellite dedicated to assisting the United Nations 2030 sustainable development Agenda,has been operational for over two and a half *** provides valuable data to aid in implementing the sustainable development Goals *** its Open Science Program,the satellite has maintained consistent operations and delivered free data to scientific and technological users from 88 *** program has produced a wealth of scientific output,with 72 papers,including 28 on data processing methods and 44 on applications for monitoring progress toward SDGs related to sustainable cities,clean energy,life underwater,climate action,and clean water and ***-1 is equipped with three key instruments:a multispectral imager,a thermal infrared spectrometer,and a glimmer imager,which have enabled ground-breaking research in a variety of domains such as water quality analysis,identification of industrial heat sources,assessment of environmental disaster impacts,and detection of forest *** precise measurements and ongoing monitoring made possible by this invaluable data significantly advance our understanding of various environmental *** are essential for making well-informed decisions on a local and global *** its application to academic research,SDGSAT-1 promotes global cooperation and strengthens developing countries'capacity to accomplish their sustainable development *** the satellite continues to gather and distribute data,it plays a pivotal role in developing strategies for environmental protection,disaster management and relief,and resource *** initiatives highlight the satellite's vital role in fostering international collaboration and technical innovation to advance scientific knowledge and promote a sustainable future.

A persistent challenge for the sustainable development Goals(SDGs)has been a lack of data for indicators to assess progress towards each goal and varying capacities among nations to con-duct these *** developments in big data,however,are facilitating a global approach to the *** and data products are emerging that can be extended to and leveraged by nations that do not yet have the capacity to measure SDG *** Earth data,a special class of big data,integrates multisource data within a geographic context,utilizing the principles and methodologies of the established literature on big data science,applied specifically to Earth system *** paper discusses the research challenges related to big Earth data and the concerted efforts and investments required to make and mea-sure progress towards the *** an example,the big Earth data Science Engineering Program(CASEarth)of the Chinese Academy of Sciences is presented along with other case studies on big Earth data in support of the ***,the paper proposes future priorities for developments in big Earth data,such as human resource capacity,digital infrastructure,interoperability,and envir-onmental considerations.
