Height-diameter models for King Boris fir(Abies borisii regis Mattf.) and Scots pine(Pinus sylvestris L.) in Olympus and Pieria Mountains, Greece

In forest science and practice, the total tree height is one of the basic morphometric attributes at the tree level and it has been closely linked with important stand attributes. In the current research, sixteen nonlinear functions for height prediction were tested in terms of their fitting ability against samples of Abies borisii regis and Pinus sylvestris trees from mountainous forests in central Greece. The fitting procedure was based on generalized nonlinear weighted regression. At the final stage, a five-quantile nonlinear height-diameter model was developed for both species through a quantile regression approach, to estimate the entire conditional distribution of tree height, enabling the evaluation of the diameter impact at various quantiles and providing a comprehensive understanding of the proposed relationship across the distribution. The results clearly showed that employing the diameter as the sole independent variable, the 3-parameter Hossfeld function and the 2-parameter N?slund function managed to explain approximately 84.0% and 81.7% of the total height variance in the case of King Boris fir and Scots pine species, respectively. Furthermore, the models exhibited low levels of error in both cases(2.310m for the fir and 3.004m for the pine), yielding unbiased predictions for both fir(-0.002m) and pine(-0.004m). Notably, all the required assumptions for homogeneity and normality of the associated residuals were achieved through the weighting procedure, while the quantile regression approach provided additional insights into the height-diameter allometry of the specific species. The proposed models can turn into valuable tools for operational forest management planning, particularly for wood production and conservation of mountainous forest ecosystems.

GMAT:A Graph Modeling Method for Group Preference Prediction

Preference prediction is the building block of personalized services,and its implementation at the group level helps enterprises identify their target customers *** methods for preference prediction mainly focus on behavioral interactions to extract the associations between groups and products,ignoring the importance of other auxiliary records(e.g.,online reviews and social tags)in association *** paper proposes a novel method named GMAT for group preference prediction,aiming to collectively detect the sophisticated association patterns from user generated content(UGC)and behavioral *** doing so,we construct a tripartite graph to collaborate these two types of data,and design a deep-learning algorithm with mutual attention module for generating the contextualized representations of groups and *** experiments on two real-world datasets show that GMAT is superior to other baselines in terms of group preference ***,GMAT is able to improve prediction accuracy compared with its different variants,further verifying the proposed method’s effectiveness on association pattern detection.

A Feature Transformation and Selection Method to Acquire an Interpretable Model Incorporating Nonlinear Effects

Finding a highly interpretable nonlinear model has been an important yet challenging problem, and related research is relatively scarce in the current literature. To tackle this issue, we propose a new algorithm called Feat-ABESS based on a framework that utilizes feature transformation and selection for re-interpreting many machine learning algorithms. The core idea behind Feat-ABESS is to parameterize interpretable feature transformation within this framework and construct an objective function based on these parameters. This approach enables us to identify a proper interpretable feature transformation from the optimization perspective. By leveraging a recently advanced optimization technique, Feat-ABESS can obtain a concise and interpretable model. Moreover, Feat-ABESS can perform nonlinear variable selection. Our extensive experiments on 205 benchmark datasets and case studies on two datasets have demonstrated that Feat-ABESS can achieve powerful prediction accuracy while maintaining a high level of interpretability. The comparison with existing nonlinear variable selection methods exhibits Feat-ABESS has a higher true positive rate and a lower false discovery rate.

Impact of carbon disclosure on debt financing costs

Assessing intersectional gender analysis in Nepal’s health management information system: a case study on tuberculosis for inclusive health systems

Background Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major public health problem in Nepal, high in settings marked by prevalent gender and social inequities. Various social stratifiers intersect, either privileging or oppressing individuals based on their characteristics and contexts, thereby increasing risks, vulnerabilities and marganilisation associated with TB. This study aimed to assess the inclusiveness of gender and other social stratifiers in key health related national policies and the health management Information System (HMIS) of National Tuberculosis Programme (NTP) by conducting an intersectional analysis of TB cases recorded via *** A desk review of key policies and the NTP’s HMIS was conducted. Retrospective intersectional analysis utilized two secondary data sources: annual NTP report (2017–2021) and records of 628 TB cases via HMIS 6.5 from two TB centres (2017/18–2018/19). Chi-square test and multi-variate analysis was used to assess the association between social stratifers and types of TB, registration category and treatment *** Gender, social inclusion and concept of intersectionality are incorporated into various health policies and strategies but lack effective implementation. NTP has initiated the collection of age, sex, ethnicity and location data since 2014/15 through the HMIS. However, only age and sex disaggregated data are routinely reported, leaving recorded social stratifiers of TB patients static without analysis and dissemination. Furthermore, findings from the intersectional analysis using TB secondary data, showed that male more than 25 years exhibited higher odds [adjusted odds ratio (aOR) = 4.95, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.60–19.06,P = 0.01)] of successful outcome compared to male TB patients less than 25 years. Similarly, sex was significantly associated with types of TB (P < 0.05) whereas both age (P < 0.05) and sex (P < 0.05) were significantly associated with patient registration category (old/new cases).Conclusio

Improvement of Surface Mechanical and Tribological Characteristics of L-PBF Processed Commercially Pure Titanium through Ultrasonic Impact Treatment

Multi-pass ultrasonic impact treatment(UIT)was applied to modify the microstructure and improve the mechanical and tri-bological characteristics at the near-surface region of commercially pure Ti(CP-Ti)specimens produced by the laser powder bed fusion(L-PBF)*** considerably refined the L-PBF process-related acicular martensites(α'-M)and produced a well-homogenized and dense surface microstructure,where the porosity content of 1-,3-,and 5-pass UITed samples was reduced by 43,60,and 67％,*** UITed samples showed an enhancement in their near-surface mechanical properties up to a depth of about 300 μ*** nanoindentation results for the 3-pass UITed sample revealed an increase of about 53,45,and 220％in its nanohardness,H/Er,and H3/Er2 indices,*** stylus profilometry results showed that performing the UIT removed the L-PBF-related features/defects and offered a smooth *** roughness average(Ra)and the skewness(Rsk)of the 3-pass UITed sample were found to be lower than those of the L-PBFed sample by 95 and 223％,*** the UIT also enhanced the material ratio,where the maximum load-bearing capacity(～100％)in as-L-PBFed(as-built)and 3-pass UITed samples was obtained at 60-and 10-μm depths,*** tribological investigations showed that applying the UIT resulted in a significant reduction of wear rate and *** of friction(COF)of *** instance,under the normal pressures of 0.05 and 0.2 MPa,the wear rate and COF of the 3-pass UITed sample were lower than those of the L-PBFed sample by 65 and 58％,and 20 and 17％,respectively.
