Visualization of Three-dimensional Human Data Based on CT Image

Three-dimensional medical image visualization becomes an essential part for medical field, including computer aided diagnosis, surgery planning and simulation, artificial limb surgery, radiotherapy planning, and teaching etc. In this paper, marching cubes algorithm is adopted to reconstruct the 3-D images for the CT image sequence in DICOM format under theVC＋＋6.0 and the visual package VTK platform. The relatively simple interactive operations such as rotation and transfer can be realized on the platform. Moreover, the normal vector and interior point are calculated to form the virtual clipping plane, which is then used to incise the 3-D object. Information of the virtual slice can be obtained, in the mean while the virtual slice images are displayed on the screen. The technique can realize the real time interaction extraction of virtual slice on 3-D CT image. The cuboids structured can be zoomed, moved and eircumrotated by operating mouse to incise the 3-D reconstruction object. Real time interaction can be realized by clipping the reconstruction object. The coordinates can be acquired by the mouse clicking in the 3D space, to realize the point mouse pick-up as well angle and distance interactive measurement. We can get quantitative information about 3-D images through measurement.

In view of the nonlinearity and coupling in the coordinated control system（CCS） of thermal power plants, the paper introduces a Takagi-Sugeno（T-S） fuzzy model based generalized predictive control（GPC） of CCS. First, a T-S fuzzy model with three chosen typical operating point is employed to approximate the nonlinearity of the CCS of the thermal power plant. Then, based on the obtained T-S fuzzy model, a GPC controller is developed to achieve a desired performance. Finally, a living example of a 330MW thermal power unit is used to demonstrate GPC controller.

＜正＞ We monitored the effect of hydrostatic pressure on the protein structure by measuring the Centre of Spectral Mass （CSM）, an intensity-weighted average emission wavenumber derived from the intrinsic fluorescence emission spectrum of the protein [1]. The three proteins studied were the Saccharomyces cerevisiae prion protein Ure2p （Ure2）, a Ure2 variant in which residues 15 to 42 have been excised （ 15-42Ure2） and a second variant in which the N-terminal 90 residues including the entire prion domain have been deleted （90Ure2）. All three proteins are dimeric [2] and have monomeric molecular weights of 42, 39 and 32 kD, respectively. All aspects of stability and folding appear to be determined by the globular C-terminal region common to the three proteins [2]. The fluorescence emission spectra for the three variants are very similar. However, small variations in the CSM are observed under identical conditions even at atmospheric pressure, which are exaggerated by the application of high pressure. The origin of this variation in the susceptibility to perturbations in structure between experiments is under investigation as small structural changes may be important for formation of the aggregated prion form [3]. Hydrostatic pressure alone, even up to 600 MPa, is insufficient to cause complete unfolding of Ure2. The changes in CSM observed between atmospheric and 600 MPa pressure for Ure2, 15-42Ure2 and 90Ure2 were between 15 and 20% of the change that occurs on complete denaturation of the proteins. Ure2 proteins are fully denatured in 5 M GdmCl and the mid-point for the unfolding transition is 3 M GdmCl [2]. The unfolded conformation of Ure2 does not begin to be populated until GdmCl concentrations above 2 M. When 2 M GdmCl is combined with high pressure, Ure2 can be induced to unfold to a similar degree as in 5 M GdmCl. Temporal contrast is one of the crucial physical determinants which guarantee the successful performance of laser–matter interaction experiments. We generally reviewed the influences on the temporal contrast in three categories of noises based on the requirement by the physical mechanisms. The spatiotemporal influences on temporal contrast at the focal region of the chromatic aberration and propagation time difference introduced by large-aperture broadband spatial filters, which were spatiotemporally coupled with compression and focusing, were calculated and discussed with a practical case in SG-Ⅱ5 PW ultrashort petawatt laser. The system-wide spatiotemporal coupling existing in large-aperture broadband ultrashort petawatt lasers was proved to be one of the possible causes of temporal contrast degradation in the focal region.

Serum soluble ST2 is a promising prognostic biomarker in HBV-related acute-on-chronic liver failure

BACKGROUND： The IL-33/ST2 axis is involved in the pathogenesis of many diseases such as autoimmune diseases, cancer,and heart failure. However, studies of the IL-33/ST2 pathway in HBV-related acute-on-chronic liver failure（HBV-ACLF） are lacking. The present study aimed to determine the prognostic role of serum IL-33/soluble ST2（s ST2） in ***： Serum levels of IL-33 and sS T2 in healthy controls（HC, n=18）, chronic hepatitis B（CHB, n=27） and HBV-ACLF（n=51） patients at the 1st and 4th week after enrollment were detected using ELISA, and clinical data were collected. The follow-up of HBV-ACLF patients lasted for 6 months at ***： There was no significant difference of serum IL-33 level among HC, CHB and HBV-ACLF patients at week ***, serum s ST2 level differed significantly among the three groups： highest in the HBV-ACLF group, moderate in the CHB group and lowest in the HC group. There was a reverse correlation between serum s ST2 level and the survival of HBV-ACLF patients. The level of serum s ST2 in HBV-ACLF survivors was significantly declined from week 1 to week 4 following the treatment, whereas that in HBV-ACLF nonsurvivors remained at a high level during the same period. Furthermore, serum sS T2 level was significantly correlated with laboratory parameters and the most updated prognostic scores（CLIF-C OF score, CLIF-C ACLF score and ACLF grades）. Thereceiver operating characteristics curves demonstrated that serum sS T2 level was a good diagnostic marker for predicting the 6-month mortality in HBV-ACLF patients, comparable to the most updated prognostic scores. Serum sS T2 cut-off points for predicting prognosis in HBV-ACLF patients were 76 ng/mL at week 1 or 53 ng/mL at week 4, respectively. The conformational states of talin autoinhibition complex and its activation under forces

Talin is an integrin-binding protein located at focal adhesion site and serves as both an adapter and a force transmitter. Its integrin binding activity is regulated by the intramolecular autoinhibition interaction between its F3 and RS domains. Here, we used atomic force microscopy to measure the strength of talin autoinhibition complex. Our results suggest that the lifetime of talin autoinhibition complex shows weak catch bond behavior and does not change significantly at smaller forces, while it drops rapidly at larger forces(>10 p N). Moreover, besides the complex conformation revealed by crystal structure, our molecular dynamics(MD) simulations indicate the possible existence of another stable conformation. Further analysis indicates that forces may regulate the equilibrium of the two stable binding states and result in the non-exponential force dependence of the binding lifetime. Our findings reveal a negative regulation mechanism on talin activation and provide a new point of view on the function of talin in focal adhesion.

Definition of Business as Usual and Its Impacts on Assessment of Mitigation Efforts

Business as Usual （BaU） scenario in developing countries has been a debated issue in climate change negotiations. This paper analyzes different definitions of BaU and points out that the major difference among these definitions is how to set the starting point of BaU projections, that is the so called base year. Some international institutions use current policy scenarios to project a BaU trajectory of developing countries. Such definition will lead to an underestimation of BaU emissions of developing countries and thus an underestimation of mitigation efforts. This paper concludes with a suggestion to use a without policy scenario with a clear base year as definition of BaU. Such a definition will set an objective benchmark to assess mitigation efforts of develonin countries.

Development of a dynamics model for graphite-moderated channel-type molten salt reactor

A molten salt reactor(MSR) is one of the six advanced reactor concepts selected by the generation Ⅳ international forum because of its advantages of inherent safety, and the promising capabilities of Th-U breeding and transuranics transmutation. A dynamics model for the channel-type MSR is developed in this work based on a three-dimensional thermal–hydraulic model(3DTH) and a point reactor model. The 3DTH couples a three-dimensional heat conduction model and a one-dimensional single-phase flow model that can accurately consider the heat conduction between different assemblies. The 3DTH is validated by the RELAP5 code in terms of the temperature and mass flow distribution calculation. A point reactor model considering the drift of delayed neutron precursors is adopted in the dynamics model. To verify the dynamics model, three experiments from the molten salt reactor experiment are simulated. The agreement of the experimental data and simulation results was *** the aid of this model, the unprotected step reactivity addition and unprotected loss of flow of the 2 MWt experimental MSR are modeled, and the reactor power and temperature evolution are analyzed.

Familial cortical myoclonic tremor with epilepsy is an autosomal dominant neurodegenerative disease, characterized by cortical tremor and epileptic seizures. Although four subtypes(type 1-4) mapped on different chromosomes(8 q24, 2 p11.1-q12.2, 5 p15.31-p15.1 and 5 p15.31-p15.1) have been reported, the causative gene has not yet been identified. Here, we report the genetic study in a cohort of twenty Chinese pedigrees with familial cortical myoclonic tremor with epilepsy. Linkage and haplotype analysis in 11 pedigrees revealed maximum two-point LOD scores from 1.64 to 3.77(LOD scores in 5 pedigrees were > 3.0) in chromosomal region 8 q24 and narrowed the candidate region to an interval of 4.9 Mb. Using whole-genome sequencing, long-range PCR and repeat-primed PCR, we identified an intronic pentanucleotide(TTTCA)n insertion in SAMD12 gene as the cause, which was cosegregated with the disease among the 11 pedigrees mapped on 8 q24 and additional 7 un-mapped pedigrees. Only 2 pedigrees did not detect this(TTTCA)n insertion. Repeat-primed PCR revealed that the sizes of(TTTCA)n insertion in all affected members were larger than 105 repeats. The same pentanucleotide insertion(ATTTCATTTC) 58 has been reported to form RNA foci resulting in neurotoxicity in spinocerebellar ataxia type 37, which suggests the similar pathogenic process in familial cortical myoclonic tremor with epilepsy type 1.

Proposal and prospects for the global Lower-Middle Cambrian boundary

In recent years paleontologists have been working on the global stratotype section and standard point (GSSP) for the Lower Middle Cambrian boundary in North America, china, Morocco, Spain and Russia. Continually, they suggest the potential first appearance datum (FAD) of the Middle Cambrian, such as Oryctocephalus indicus, Ovatoryctocara granulata, Acadoparadoxides mureroensis, Hupeolenus and Arthricocephalus chauveaui as being relevant to the potential stratotype section for the Lower Middle Cambrian boundary. There are only a few trilobites distributed widely enough in the Early to Middle Cambrian connection, so virtually no trilobite(s) can act as the FAD for the global Middle Cambrian. The easily identified Oryctocephalus indicus is widely distributed in three realms of the global Cambrian. Its first appearance position is linked to the extinction of old species coevolution of new ones. It appears to be a comparatively good FAD of Middle Cambrian. The continuous and unbroken Wuliu section (Balang, Taijiang County, Guizhou Province, china) includes O. indicus and co occurs with many benthic and nektonic trilobites. The evolution of acritarchs in the section, the changed characteristics of trace elements (REE and C isotopes) are generally consistent with the evolution of trilobites both above and below the boundary. Strata above the boundary yield the famous Kaili Biota. The Wuliu section is easily accessible from a main highway.
