imaging characteristics and treatment strategies for carotid artery occlusion caused by skull base fracture:Three case reports

BACKGROUND Traumatic internal carotid artery(iCA)occlusion is a rare complication of skull base fractures,characterized by high mortality and disability rates,and poor ***,timely discovery and correct management are crucial for saving the lives of such patients and improving their *** article retrospectively analyzed the imaging and clinical data of three patients,to explore the imaging characteristics and treatment strategies for carotid artery occlusion,combined with severe skull base *** SUMMARY This case included three patients,all male,aged 21,63,and 16 *** underwent plain film skull computed tomography(CT)examination at the onset of their illnesses,which revealed fractures at the bases of their ***,these cases were definitively diagnosed through CT angiography(CTA)*** first patient did not receive surgical treatment,only anticoagulation therapy,and recovered smoothly with no residual limb dysfunction(Case 1).The other two patients both developed intracranial hypertension and underwent decompressive *** of these patients had high intracranial pressure and significant brain swelling postoperatively,leading the family to choose to take him home(Case 2).The other patient also underwent decompressive craniectomy and recovered well postoperatively with only mild limb motor dysfunction(Case 3).We retrieved literature from PubMed on skull base fractures causing iCA occlusion to determine the imaging characteristics and treatment strategies for this type of *** For patients with cranial trauma combined with skull base fractures,it is essential to complete a CTA examination as soon as possible,to screen for blunt cerebrovascular injury.

Myeloproliferative neoplasms(MPNs)occur due to the abnormal proliferation of one or more terminal myeloid cell lines in peripheral *** suffering from MPNs display a high burden of cardiovascular risk factors,and thrombotic events are often the cause of death in this population of ***,we provide a brief overview of dyslipidemia and metabolic syndrome and their epidemiology in MPNs and examine the common molecular mechanisms between dyslipidemia,metabolic syndrome,and MPNs,with a special focus on cardio-vascular risk,atherosclerosis,and thrombotic ***,we investigate the impact of dyslipidemia and metabolic syndrome on the occurrence and survival of thrombosis in MPN patients,as well as the management of dyslipidemia in MPNs,and the impact of MPN treatment on serum lipid concentrations,particularly as side/adverse effects reported in the context of clinical trials.

The kidneys are complex organs responsible for waste removal and various regulatory *** ill patients often experience acute kidney injury(AKi).Although renal replacement therapy is used to manage AKi,nutritional therapy is ***,an amino acid involved in cellular functions,has potential benefits when administered intravenously to critically ill *** administration is associated with reduced mortality rates,infectious complications,and hospitalization ***,its use in patients with AKi remains *** is used by various organs,including the kidneys,and its metabolism affects several important *** glutamine supplementation at specific doses can improve blood marker levels and restore plasma glutamine ***,this supplementation reduces infections,enhances immune responses,decreases disease severity scores,and reduces complications in critically ill ***,caution is advised in patients with multiple organ failure,particularly AKi,as high doses of glutamine may increase mortality *** can have adverse *** and appropriate dosing can help to mitigate these *** rely on glutamine for various essential ***,the use of intravenous glutamine in critically ill patients with AKi remains *** its potential benefits in terms of infection reduction,immunomodulation,and improved outcomes,careful consideration of the patient’s condition,dosage,and treatment duration is *** research is needed to establish optimal guidelines for glutamine administration in this patient population.

Accidental placement of venous return catheter in the superior vena cava during venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation for severe pneumonia: A case report

The value of the iNFECTiONS scoring system in identifying bacterial infections among patients presenting at the emergency department of a middle-income country:A pilot study

Purpose:To investigate which scoring system is the most accurate tool in predicting mortality among the infected patients who present to the emergency department in a middle-income country,and to validate a new scoring system to predict bacterial ***:This was a retrospective,single-center study among patients who were admitted via the emergency department of a public *** patients who were started on antibiotics were included in the study,while patients agedincludeding patients'demographics,vital signs and basic laboratory parameters like white blood cell count and *** sensitivity and specificity of different scoring systems were calculated as well as their negative and positive predictive *** regression was used to derive a novel early warning system for bacterial *** area under the receiver operating characteristic(AUROC)was computed for each scoring ***:in total,109 patients were included in this *** quick sequential organ failure assessment(qSOFA),search out severity and rapid acute physiology score had the highest AUROC(≥0.89)for predicting mortality,while qSOFA and universal vital assessment were the simplest scoring systems with an AUROC>0.85;however,these scoring systems failed to predict whether patients were truly *** iNFECTiONS(short for impaired mental status,not conscious,fast heart rate,elevated creatinine,high temperature,on inotrope,low oxygen,high neutrophils and high sugar)model reached an AUROC of 0.88 to more accurately predict the infectious state of a ***:Middle-income countries should use the qSOFA or universal vital assessment score to identify the sickest patients in emergency *** iNFECTiONS score may help recognize patients with bacterial infections,but it should be further validated in multiple countries prior to widely use.
