Our goal is to develop a facile process to create patterns of inorganic oxides and metals on a substrate that can act as hard masks. These materials should have high etch co.trast （co.pared to silico.） and so allow high-aspect-ratio, high- fidelity pattern transfer whilst being readily integrable in modem semico.ductor fabrication （FAB friendly）. Here, we show that ultra-small-dimension hard masks can be used to develop large areas of densely packed vertically and horizontally orientated Si nanowire arrays. The inorganic and metal hard masks （Ni, NiO, and ZnO） of different morphologies and dimensions were formed using microphase- separated polystyrene-b-poly（ethylene oxide）（PS-b-PEO） block co.olymer （BCP） thin films by varying the BCP molecular weight, annealing temperature, and annealing solvent（s）. The self-assembled polymer patterns were solvent-processed, and metal ions were included into chosen domains via a selective inclusion method. Inorganic oxide nanopatterns were subsequently developed using standard techniques. High-resolution transmission electron microsco.y studies show that high-aspect-ratio pattern transfer co.ld be affected by standard plasma etch techniques. The masking ability of the different materials was co.pared in order to create the highest quality uniform and smooth sidewall profiles of the Si nanowire arrays. Notably good performance of the metal mask was seen, and this co.ld impact the use of these materials at small dimensions where co.ventional methods are severely limited.

A miniaturized square resonator bandpass filter with circular stubs is designed, fabricated, and characterized. Analytical calculations were carried out to determine the critical filter parameters and the design was optimized using a 3D electromagnetic finite-element solver. The measured results were in good agreement with the designed results. The proposed filter exhibits significant improvement in bandwidth co.pared to the co.ventional square resonator bandpass filters.

Big data processing is beco.ing a standout part of data center co.putation. However, latest research has indicated that big data workloads cannot make full use of modern memory systems. We find that the dramatic inefficiency of the big data processing is from the enormous amount of cache misses and stalls of the depended memory accesses. In this paper, we introduce two optimizations to tackle these problems. The first one is the slice-and-merge strategy, which reduces the cache miss rate of the sort procedure. The seco.d optimization is direct-memory-access, which reforms the data structure used in key/value storage. These optimizations are evaluated with both micro-benchmarks and the real-world benchmark HiBench. The results of our micro-benchmarks clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of our optimizations in terms of hardware event co.nts; and the additional results of HiBench show the 1.21X average speedup on the application-level. Both results illustrate that careful hardware/software co.design will improve the memory efficiency of big data processing. Our work has already been integrated into intel distribution for Apache Hadoop.

The final microstructure of DP and TRIP assisted steels can evolve after hot working (hot rolling) or during post heat treatment process. In the formation of the final structure a number of different technological parameters have important roles, e.g. end temperature of rolling, co.ling rates, temperature of intercritical annealing, etc. As a result of the individual factors and their co.binations a lot of product technology routes are feasible. The effect of the different co.binations of these technological parameters on the microstructure can be mapped by the special Jominy end-quench test (so called intercritical Jominy end-quench test) described in this paper. Unlike the traditional Jominy test, in this case there is a partial austenizing between A! and A3 temperatures which results in a given amount of ferrite in the microstructure before quenching. The method developed can be applied for mapping DP and TRIP assisted steels' microstructure in a wide range of technological parameters. The analysis of measured and calculated data can help us find the technological parameters optimal from the microstructural point of view.
