Effect of Ball Milling Time on Microstructure and Hydrogen Storage Properties of Nd_(5)Mg_(41)Ni Alloy

Mg-based alloys must be dehydrogenated at high pressure and temperatures, limiting their practical application. In this paper, Nd_(5)Mg_(41)Ni alloy was prepared by vacuum melting, and the as-cast alloy was ball milled for 5 h, 10 h, 15 h, and 20 h. The effect of ball milling time on the microstructure and hydrogen storage properties of the alloy was systematically studied. The alloy comprises Nd_(5)Mg_(41), NdMg_(12), NdMg_(3), and Mg_(2)Ni phases. The Nd_(5)Mg_(41)Ni alloy milling for 10 h can reach 95% of the saturated hydrogen absorption at 553 K by 40 s, and the alloy can desorb hydrogen only by 20 min. The dehydrogenation activation energy is only 99.9 kJ/mol H_(2). Ball milling makes the alloy produce many nanocrystalline and amorphous structures. The nano-grain boundary provides a channel for the diffusion of hydrogen atoms, and the high energy at the grain boundary provides energy for the phase deformation nucleus. Ball milling leads to the refinement of alloy particles and shortens the diffusion distance of hydrogen atoms to the interior of alloy particles. Defects such as twins and dislocations generated by milling provide energy for the phase deformation nucleus during the hydrogen absorption and desorption.

Poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate)(PBAT)is a promising biodegradable flexible polymer but suffers from slow crystallization rate,making it less attractive for some applications like the injection-molded products in comparison with low-density polyethylene(LDPE).This work aimed to accelerate the crystallization of PBAT by adding a self-assembly nucleating agent octamethylenedicarboxylic dibenzoylhydrazide(OMBH).PBAT/OMBH composites with various OMBH contents(0 wt%,0.5 wt%,0.7 wt%,1 wt%,2 wt%,3 wt%and 5 wt%)were prepared through *** effect of OMBH on the crystallization behavior,morphologies and mechanical properties of PBAT was *** highest nucleation efficiency value of 59.6%was achieved for PBAT with 0.7 wt%OMBH,much higher than that of 22.7%for PBAT with 0.7 wt%*** force microscopy results showed that OMBH formed fine fibers and induced the formation of transcrystalline layers of *** transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR)combined with two-dimensional correlation spectra suggested that the intermolecular dipole-dipole N—H…O=C interactions but not hydrogen bond between OMBH and PBAT promoted the crystallization of PBAT in the initial period of *** presence of OMBH did not change the crystal form of PBAT but had positive contribution in enhancing its crystallinity and mechanical *** work is essential for preparing PBAT with high crystallization rate,enhancing its potential applications in injection-molded products.

Effect of boundary conditions on shakedown analysis of heterogeneous materials

The determination of the ultimate load-bearing capacity of structures made of elastoplastic heterogeneous materials under varying loads is of great importance for engineering analysis and design. Therefore, it is necessary to accurately predict the shakedown domains of these materials. The static shakedown theorem, also known as Melan's theorem, is a fundamental method used to predict the shakedown domains of structures and materials. Within this method, a key aspect lies in the construction and application of an appropriate self-equilibrium stress field(SSF). In the structural shakedown analysis, the SSF is typically constructed by governing equations that satisfy no external force(NEF) boundary conditions. However, we discover that directly applying these governing equations is not suitable for the shakedown analysis of heterogeneous materials. researchers must consider the requirements imposed by the Hill-Mandel condition for boundary conditions and the physical significance of representative volume elements(RVEs). This paper addresses this issue and demonstrates that the sizes of SSFs vary under different boundary conditions, such as uniform displacement boundary conditions(DBCs), uniform traction boundary conditions(TBCs), and periodic boundary conditions(PBCs). As a result, significant discrepancies arise in the predicted shakedown domain sizes of heterogeneous materials. Built on the demonstrated relationship between SSFs under different boundary conditions, this study explores the conservative relationships among different shakedown domains, and provides proof of the relationship between the elastic limit(EL) factors and the shakedown loading factors under the loading domain of two load vertices. By utilizing numerical examples, we highlight the conservatism present in certain results reported in the existing literature. Controlling the orientation of two-dimensional MXene within layered films is essential to optimize or tune their mechanical properties and electromagnetic interference shielding(EMI)performance,but achieving the high orientation MXene layers on an industrial scale remains a challenging *** this paper,a scalable layer-by-layer blade coating(LbLBC)method was employed to fabricate highly oriented MXene/polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)*** the LbLBC process,MXene/PVA colloid suffered a strong shearing effect,which induced the ordered alignment of MXene nanosheets along the direction of the blade *** orientation of MXene can be effectively adjusted by changing the scraping gap of LbLBC,achieving a maximum Herman orientation factor f of *** a result,the mechanical properties and EMI performance of the as-prepared MXene/PVA films are in direct proportion to their orientation,with the optimal values of tensile strength of 145.5 MPa,fracture strain of 19.6%,toughness of 17.7 MJ·m^(−3),and EMI shielding effectiveness of 36.7 ***,the inherently low mid-infrared(mid-IR)emissivity of MXene,combined with the densely oriented structure affords the composite films with IR stealth,resulting in a substantial decrease from 150 to 66.1℃in the radiative temperature of a ***,these scalable MXene/PVA films exhibit remarkable potential for integration into the next generation of multifunctional protective camouflage materials.

We demonstrate that a bulky cyclic amino ligand, specifically 1,1,3,3-tetraphenylisoindolinyl, can facilitate the formation of a transient stannyne, endowed with adjacent ambiphilic carbon and tin centers. This stannyne, manifesting carbene-like behavior,engages in an unprecedented sequence of reactions, including Buchner ring expansion, [1,3]sigmatropic, and [1,5]-sigmatropic shifts, culminating in the synthesis of a stable cyclic(alkyl)(amino)stannylene. This compound represents the first tin analogue of the well-known cyclic(alkyl)(amino)carbenes. Both the bonding configuration and the formation process of this stannylene are thoroughly analyzed through quantum chemical computations. Our findings pave the way for further synthesis of unusual main group species using bulky isoindolinyl substituents, emphasizing their potential as a versatile tool in synthetic chemistry.
