Hybrid meta-heuristic machine learning methods applied to landslide susceptibility mapping in the Sahel-Algiers

Landslides are considered as one among many phenomena jeopardizing human beings as well as their constructions. To prevent this disastrous problem, researchers have used several approaches for landslide susceptibility modeling, for the purpose of preparing accurate maps marking landslide prone *** the most frequently used approaches for landslide susceptibility mapping is the Artificial Neural Network(ANN) method. However, the effectiveness of ANN methods could be enhanced by using hybrid metaheuristic algorithms, which are scarcely applied in landslide mapping. In the current study, nine hybrid metaheuristic algorithms, genetic algorithm(GA)-ANN, evolutionary strategy(es)-ANN, ant colony optimization(Aco)-ANN, particle swarm optimization(PSO)-ANN, biogeography based optimization(BBO)-ANN, gravitational search algorithm(GHA)-ANN, particle swarm optimization and gravitational search algorithm(PSOGSA)-ANN, grey wolves optimization(GWO)-ANN, and probability based incremental learning(PBIL)-ANN have been used to spatially predict landslide susceptibility in Algiers’ Sahel,Algeria. The modeling phase was done using a database of 78 landslides collected utilizing Google Earth images, field surveys, and six conditioning factors(lithology, elevation, slope, land cover, distance to stream, and distance to road). Initially, a gamma test was used to decrease the input variable ***, the optimal inputs have been modeled by the mean of hybrid metaheuristic ANN techniques and their performance was assessed through seven statistical indicators. The comparative study proves the effectiveness of the co-evolutionary PSOGSA-ANN model, which yielded higher performance in predicting landslide susceptibility compared to the other models. Sensitivity analysis using the stepby-step technique was done afterward, which revealed that the distance to the stream is the most influential factor on landslide susceptibility, followed by the slope factor which ranked second. Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute inflammatory disorder of children frequently associated with the development of coronary artery abnormalities. Although a gr eat deal is known about inflammatory and immune responses in acute KD, the mecha nisms linking the immune response to vascular changes are not known. To gain fur ther insight into this process, we performed a microarray gene expression analys is on RNA isolated from the peripheral blood mononuclear cells of four patients with KD during both their acute and convalescent phases. Fortyseven genes of 712 9 genes examined showed an increased expression in three or all four patients in the acute compared with the convalescent phase of KD. Fourteen of these genes w ere significantly (p esp onse genes (e. g. S-100 A9 protein) and also anti-inflammatory genes (e. g. TS G-6). Of greatest interest, the adrenomedullin (ADM) gene, known to be associat ed with coronary artery vasodilation, was up-regulated in the acute phase of KD (p = 0.024). Up-regulation of ADM in the acute phase of KD was confirmed in p eripheral blood mononuclear cells of 11 additional KD patients by reverse transc riptase-PCR (p es but not lymphocytes were demo nstrated by real-time PCR to have increased ADM mRNA (p = 0.01). Plasma ADM pr otein level in 32 additional KD patients was also confirmed to be higher in acut e KD compared with convalescent KD (p esting that from mic roarray results, other molecules known to be associated with coronary dilation, including nitric oxide, prostacyclin, acetylcholine, bradykinin, substance P, an d serotonin, were not elevated in acute KD. Our current study suggests that ADMe xpressing monocytes that infiltrate the coronary vascular wall may be the cause of coronary dilation in the acute phase of KD.

Voltammetric sensor based on cobalt-poly(methionine)-modified glassy carbon electrode for determination of estriol hormone in pharmaceuticals and urine

A voltammetric sensor based on the electropolymerization of cobalt-poly(methionine)(co-poly(Met)) on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was developed and applied for the determination of estriol by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) for the first time. The electrochemical properties of the co-poly(Met)/GCE were analysed by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) were used to characterize the polymers on the GCE surface. The deposition of the co-poly(Met) film on the GCE surface enhanced the sensor electronic transfer. CV studies revealed that estriol exhibits an irreversible oxidation peak at t0.58 V for the co-poly(Met)/GCE (vs. Ag/AgCl reference electrode) in 0.10 mol/L Britton-Robinson buffer solution (pH=7.0). Different voltammetric scan rates (10-200 mV/s) suggested that the estriol oxidation on the co-poly(Met)/GCE surface is controlled by adsorption and diffusion processes. Based on the optimized DPV conditions, the linear responses for estriol quantification were from 0.596 μmol/L to 4.76 μmol/L (R2 =0.996) and from 5.66 μmol/L to 9.90 μmol/L (R2 =0.994) with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.0340 μmol/L and a limit of quantification (LOQ) of 0.113 μmol/L. The DPV-co-poly(Met)/GCE method provided good intra-day and inter-day repeatability with RSD values lower than 5%. Also, no interference of real sample matrices was observed on the estriol voltammetric response, making the DPV-copoly( Met)/GCE highly selective for estriol. The accuracy test showed that the estriol recovery was in the ranges 96.7%-103% and 98.7%-102% for pharmaceutical tablets and human urine, respectively. The estriol quantification in pharmaceutical tablets performed by the co-poly(Met)/GCE-assisted DPV method was comparable to the official analytical protocols.

Objective The present study investigated the protective role of Hyparrhenia hirta （H. hirta） against sodium nitrate （NaNO3）-induced hepatoxicity. Methods Male Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups： a control group and two treated groups during 50 d with NaNO3 administered either alone in drinking water or co-administered with H. hit＇to. Results NaNO3 treatment induced a significant increase in serum levels of glucose, total cholesterol and triglyceride while serum total protein level decreased significantly. Transaminases and lactate deshydrogenase activities in serum were elevated indicating hepatic cells＇ damage after treatment with NaNO3. The hyperbilirubinemia and the increased serum gamma glutamyl transferase activities suggested the presence of cholestasis in NaNO3 exposed rats. In parallel, a significant increase in malondialdehyde level along with a concomitant decrease in total glutathione content and superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidase activities were observed in the liver after NaNO3 treatment. Furthermore, nitrate caused a significant induction of DNA fragmentation. These modifications in NaNO3-treated rats corresponded histologically with hepatoceltular necrosis and mononuclear cells infiltration. H. hirta supplementation showed a remarkable amelioration of the abnormalities cited above. conclusion The results concluded that the treatment with H. hirta had a significant role in protecting the animals from nitrate-induced liver dysfunction.

Gas-phase Smiles Rearrangement of Sulfonylurea Herbicides in Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometry

In the negative ion mode of electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry （es1-MS/MS） of four sulfonyl- urea herbicides, Smiles rearrangements were observed in rimsulfuron and nicosulfuron. In the case of rimsulfuron, two competitive gas-phase Smiles rearrangements initiated by nitrogen anion and oxygen anion respectively were witnessed. The ion-neutral complex was proposed as the reactive intermediate in the course of this unimoleeular dissociation reaction of the oxygen attack Smiles rearrangement route. The density functional theory （DFT） was carried out to elucidate the mechanism as well as to show the possible transition states and the intermediates.

Carbon Monoxide Exposure during cooking in Households： A Case of Dares Salaam City, Tanzania

Exposure to co （carbon monoxide） during cooking in households using LPG （liquefied petroleum gas）, natural gas and charcoal as fuels has been conducted. The study aimed at assessing the indoor air quality in order to address potential hazards associated with co. Carbon monoxide concentrations and flame temperature were measured at an interval of 1 min for 1 h using co and thermometer data loggers respectively. While the co concentration from LPG and natural gas were found below 26 ppm for 1 h, as recommended by WHO （World Health Organization） standards, the average co concentration from charcoal exceeded the standard limit. In addition closing the kitchen door during cooking increased the co concentration from 26-295 ppm to 92-597 ppm. According to WHO, the observed co concentrations from charcoal stove highlights questionable life support atmosphere. It can therefore be suggested that switching to LPG or natural gas from charcoal will reduce co exposure to persons during cooking.

Accurate simulation of surfaces and interfaces of ten FCC metals and steel using Lennard–Jones potentials

The earlier integration of validated Lennard–Jones(LJ)potentials for 8 fcc metals into materials and biomolecular force fields has advanced multiple research fields,for example,metal–electrolyte interfaces,recognition of biomolecules,colloidal assembly of metal nanostructures,alloys,and *** we introduce 12-6 and 9-6 LJ parameters for classical all-atom simulations of 10 further fcc metals(Ac,Ca(α),Ce(γ),es(β),Fe(γ),Ir,Rh,Sr(α),Th(α),Yb(β))and stainless *** parameters reproduce lattice constants,surface energies,water interfacial energies,and interactions with(bio)organic molecules in 0.1 to 5%agreement with experiment,as well as qualitative mechanical properties under standard *** are reduced up to a factor of one hundred in comparison to earlier Lennard–Jones parameters,embedded atom models,and density functional *** also explain a quantitative correlation between atomization energies from experiments and surface energies that supports parameter *** models are computationally very efficient and applicable to an exponential space of *** with a wide range of force fields such as the Interface force field(IFF),AMBER,CHARMM,coMPASS,CVFF,DREIDING,OPLS-AA,and PCFF enables reliable simulations of nanostructures up to millions of atoms and microsecond time ***-friendly model building and input generation are available in the CHARMM-GUI Nanomaterial *** a limitation,deviations in mechanical properties vary and are comparable to DFT *** discuss the incorporation of reactivity and features of the electronic structure to expand the range of applications and further increase the accuracy.

A bestatin-based fluorescent probe for aminopeptidase N cell imaging

Aminopeptidase N （APN） is an important drug target and biomarker for various tumors. The current work characterizes a novel APN-targeted fluorescent probe （Bes-Green, 2） that manifests comparable inhibitory activity with Bestatin. This probe has capacity of tightly binding to the APN for imaging endogenous APN in living human ovarian clear cell carcinoma cells （es-2） and has potential application in biological study of cellular APN.

In part 1 of this two-paper series, a brief summary of the basic concepts and theories used in developing the Generalized Stream Tube model for Alluvial River Simulation (GSTARS) computer models was presented. Part 2 provides examples that illustrate some of the capabilities of the GSTARS models and how they can be applied to solve a wide range of river and reservoir sedimentation problems. Laboratory and field case studies are used and the examples show representative applications of the earlier and of the more recent versions of GSTARS. Some of the more recent capabilities implemented in GSTARS3, one of the latest versions of the series, are also discussed here with more detail.
