Geochemical and mineralogical studies were performed in the La Pesca(LP)and Tesoro Altamira(TA)beach sediments,located in the Tamaulipas state,northern Gulf of *** main aim of this study is to infer the weathering history and provenance and to discriminate the tectonic environment of the beach *** sediments are composed of quartz with small amounts of accessory minerals such as plagioclase,calcite,orthoclase,microcline,and *** beach sediments are classified as fine-grained and very well sorted,however LP has coarse skewed and leptokurtic sediments,whereas TA has fine-skewed and very leptokurtic *** chemical index of weathering(CIW’)indicates intense weathering in the source *** quartz grain microtextures in the LP and TA are classified into mechanical,chemical,and mechanical/chemical *** features such as fractures,pits,percussion marks,abrasion fatigue,and V-shaped marks favor high-energy littoral,fluvial,subaqueous-marine,and aeolian *** chemical features indicate solution pits and crystalline overgrowth,which suggests a silica saturated marine *** mechanical/chemical features display adhering particles and elongated depressions suggest formation in a sub-aqueous nearshore marine *** and trace elements-based provenance discrimination diagrams indicate a felsic source derived from the Mesa Central(MC),Sierra Madre Oriental(SMOr)and Oaxaquia *** major and trace element concentrations imply a passive margin setting for the northern Gulf of Mexico,which is consistent with the general geology.

Processes involving soil CO2 dynamic in a sector of Chaco-Pampean plain, Argentina: An isotope geochemical approach

The magnitude and spatial variability of CO2surface emissions and processes involving CO2released to the atmosphere from the soils are relevant issues in the context of climate *** work evaluated CO2fluxes and13C/12C ratio of vegetation,organic matter,and soil gases from no disturbed soils of Chaco Pampean Plain （Argentina）with diff erent soil properties and environmental conditions（PL and PA units）.Soil organic decomposition from individual layers was accompanied by δ13C of total organic carbon (δ13C-TOC) values more enriched to depth.δ13C-TOC values in the upper soil profi le～ca.0–15 cm were like the plant community of this area （～-33 to-29‰） while δ13C-TOC varied stronger bellow horizon A,till～-24‰.Bothδ13C-TOC and soil δ13C-CO2were similar （～-24 to 26‰）at deeper horizons （～50–60 cm）.Toward the superfi cial layers,δ13C-TOC and δ13C-CO2showed more diff erences（till～4‰）,due infl uence of the diff usion *** A layer （～0–20 cm） from both PL and PA units contained the most enriched δ13C-CO2values （～-15–17‰）because atmospheric CO2permeated the soil air.A simple two-component mixing model between sources (atmospheric δ13C-CO2and soil CO2) confi rmed that ***,CO2fl uxes refl ected the biodegradation of C3 plants （source）,diff usive transport,and CO2exchange（atmosphere/soil）.Soil moisture content appeared as a determining factor in the diff usion process and the magnitude of CO2surface emissions (12–60 g·m-2·d-1).That condition was confirmed by CO2diff usion coefficients estimated by air-filled porosity parameters and soil radon gradient model.

Arroyo Verde epithermal deposit,in the North Patagonia region of Argentina,is located within the Lower Chon Aike volcanism and is developed between 192.6±2.5 Ma(mineralization host rock)and 189.5±2.6 Ma(overlying lava).Marifil volcanic complex is the host rock for these veins,veinlets and *** particular small deposit has developed low to intermediate sulphidation characteristics,with gangue mineral textures associated with several ore *** probe microanalysis determines electrum,silver minerals such as acanthite,and tetrahedrite,related Ag-Cu minerals like jalpaite,mckinstryite,stromeyerite,and base metals like chalcopyrite,sphalerite,galena and *** inclusions in quartz of two out of five events indicate that these Low Jurassic veins were formed due to subtle boiling and dilution mechanisms and by low-salinity(3.4 wt.%to 6.7 wt.%NaCl Eq)magmatic-hydrothermal fluid at 225 to 310℃.The fluid inclusion measurements that indicate boiling(Event 3)were plotted,and based on this data,we interpret that the Arroyo Verde deposit has been eroded between 550 and 700 *** particular character has not been previously recorded for other sectors of the eastern north Patagonian region.

The Puna grasslands support grazing systems that produce meat and wool in multi-species herds,especially from llama(Lama glama)and ***,it is yet unknown whether grazing pressure can modify grassland structure and Plant Functional Types diversity and cover in Puna *** analyzed the relationship between grazing pressure and Plant Functional Types by comparing transects located near stockyards(high grazing pressure)and far from them(low pressure)and by evaluating the relationship between the Plant Functional Types cover to a Grazing Pressure Index(GPI).This index incorporates the heterogeneity of traditional pastoral *** two ecological sites(Ciénego and Tolar),we sampled paired transects(near-far).Plots near and far from corrals were similar in all the variables measured except for plots in Tolar,which tend to have higher total cover,possibly due to fecal fertilization near ***,we recorded an increase in total cover and grass cover at higher GPI in Ciénego,while in Tolar we found lower values of total cover and herbaceous dicotyledonous cover at intermediate intensities of *** only negative relationship found was the cover of clonal and non-clonal shrubs,possibly explained by the greater use of these shrubs as firewood near *** summary,our study does not show important changes in Plant Functional Types as a function of grazing pressure in the studied grasslands probably because grazing pressure is diluted or diminished when livestock rotates in different areas and grazing durations ***,the long grazing history with which the Puna has evolved could also contribute to the co-structuration between native vegetation and livestock farming.

Trace element geochemistry and Sr-Nd characteristics of Mesoproterozoic mafic intrusive rocks from Rondonia, Brazil, SW Amazonian Craton： Petrogenetic and tectonic inferences

The Amazonian Craton comprises an Archean domain surrounded by four successively younger Proterozoic tectonic provinces. Within the Rio-Negro-Juruena province the Serra da Providencia Intrusive Suite （1.60 and 1.53 Ga） consists of A-type rapakivi gran- ites, charnockites and mangerites genetically associated with diabase dikes, gabbros and amphibolites. The original mafic melts were derived from a depleted mantle source （εN（T）＋2.5 to ＋2.8;εSr（T） -12.1）. Underplated mafic magma induced melting of a short-lived felsic crust, thus originating coeval felsic-mafic magmatism in a conti- nental intraplate setting. The Colorado Complex, assigned to the Rondonian-San Ignacio province, comprises 1.35-1.36 Ga intrusive bimodal magmatism represented by monzonite gneisses associated with amphibolite, gabbro and metadiabase dikes intercalated with metasediments with detrital zircon that yield U- Pb ages of 1.35 to 1.42 Ga. Mafic samples dis- play juvenile signatures （εNd（T） 0.0 to ＋5.2; εSr（T） --5.0 to --30.7） and are less contaminated than the Serra da Previdencia and Nova Brasilandia ones. The generation of the basaltic magma is related to the subduction of an oceanic slab below the peridotite wedge （intraoceanic arc setting）. Fluids and/or small melts from the slab impregnated the mantle. The Nova Brasilandia Sequence （Sunsas-Aguapef province） comprises a metasedimentary sequence intruded by 1.10-1.02 Ga metadia- bases, gabbros, meta-gabbros, and amphibolites associated with granitic plutons （bimodal mag- matism）. The original tholeiitic magmas, derived from a depleted source （εNd（T） = ＋3.1 to ＋5.0）, in a proto-oceanic setting, underwent subsequent contamination by the host rocks, as indicated by the isotopic and trace element data.

Hotspot of Adult Cuban Treefrog and Cane Toad Multi-organ Abnormality in Suburban South-west Florida

This study represents a continuation of the Florida hotspot of tadpole abnormality found in the Southwest Florida suburban roadside drainage ditches in 2012 to determine if the adult frogs and toads frequenting the study sites were anatomically *** gross examination of all organs included 397 adult anurans and 40 metamorphs representing five anuran species:Osteopilus septentrionalis(N=364),Rhinella marina(N=60),Lithobates sphenocephala(N=7),Anaxyrus terrestris(N=5)and Anaxyrus americanus(N=1).The gonads,liver,kidney and intestines were abnormal at a frequency of 87.4%.The few normal anurans(12.6%)were females and young male *** found a significant difference in organ abnormality type and f requency between *** all f rog and toad males had testicular abnormality(92%)with only 6%with normal testes,whereas the female gonad abnormality was lower,at 41.6%.Hermaphroditism was found in both sexes at a frequency of 26.2%.The toads had a significantly higher frequency of hermaphroditism than the *** toad hermaphroditism frequency was found to be 40%,whereas the frog hermaphroditism 23.3%.A hermaphrodite Cane toad male with a female phenotype coexisted with the normal male phenotype *** fertility of 27 in situ pairs was *** fertile testicular abnormal male and hermaphrodite pairs produced offspring with abnormal larval *** information adds new evidence of the effect of chemicals on wild populations and the effect on non-target species which has always been underestimated.

Nature and evolution of the lower crust under central Spain:Inferences from granulite xenoliths(Calatrava Volcanic Field-Spanish central system)

So far,the nature and evolution of the lower crust under central Spain have been constrained mainly on the basis of a heterogeneous suite of granulite xenoliths from the Spanish Central System(SCS).In recent years,ultramafic volcanics from the Calatrava Volcanic Field(CVF)have also provided deep-seated crustal xenoliths which have not been studied in *** data,combining mineral,whole-rock and isotopic geochemistry with U–Pb–Hf isotope ratios in zircons from the CVF and SCS xenoliths,highlight the felsic composition of the lower crust under central Iberia.A number of the Calatrava xenoliths represents Variscan igneous protoliths,which are a minor population in the SCS,and were likely formed by crystallisation of intermediate and felsic melts in the lower crust during the Variscan orogeny(leucodiorite protolith age of 314±3 Ma and leucogranite protolith age of 308±2.5 Ma).U–Pb data of metamorphic zircons show that granulite-facies metamorphism mainly occurred from 299 to 285 Ma in both *** ages are slightly younger than those of granitic intrusions that could be genetically related to the granulitic residue,which points to a main role of U–Pb isotope resetting in lower crustal zircons during HT or UHT *** zircon U–Pb–Hf isotopic ratios support the idea that the lower crust in central Iberia consists mainly of Ordovician–Neoproterozoic metaigneous and metasedimentary rocks associated with the Cadomian continental arc of northern *** rocks provide evidence of mixing between juvenile magmas and an enriched crustal component,ultimately extracted from an Eburnean *** more evolved components present in detrital zircons are likely related to recycling of Archean crust derived from North Africa cratonic terranes.

Origin and evolution of the genera Lonsdaleia and Actinocyathus:Insights for the Mississippian palaeogeography from the western Palaeotethys

Representatives of the subfamily Lonsdaleiinae Chapman,1893 are common in the Mississippian of the western Palaeotethys.A general analysis of the origin,distribution and evolution of that subfamily has been *** most probable hypothesis for the origin of the genus Lonsdaleia McCoy,1849 is to acquire colonialism via the genus Axophyllum Milne Edwards and Haime,*** d'Orbigny,1849 would be a descendant of Lonsdaleia by increasing integration in the *** first occurrences of Lonsdaleia have been recorded in the lower Visean from northern Britain and northern Tianshan Mountains of northwestern China,but the diversification and migration to the whole Palaeotethys only happened in the late *** hypotheses are proposed on that *** Serpukhovian was also a period of migrations and diversification for these *** Lonsdaleia and Actinocyathus have been recorded in Bashkirian refuges,the Sverdrup Basin in northern Laurasia and the Tindouf Basin in northern Africa,*** division of the western Palaeotethys into six subprovinces based on the distribution of corals is proposed.

*** Fluids are essential and widespread components of the Earth *** regulate the main process of mass and energy transport,conditioning the geochemical and geophysical evolution of the crust(Bredehoeft and Norton.1990)and,consequently,its properties and mechanical *** coupling between fluids,rock deformation,and heat are crucial engines for plate tectonics,playing a leading role in the rheology and evolution of the lithosphere(*** et al.,2000;Kennedy and van Soest,2007;Thompson,2010;Miller.2013;Yardley and Bodnar,2014:Hirauchi et al.,2016:Menzies et al.,2016;Plümper et al.,2017;Vizán et al.,2017).
