Interface Properties of InAs／AlSb Superlattices Characterized by Grazing Incidence X-Ray Reflectivity

Two kinds of superlattice interfaces of InAs/AlSb superlattices are realized in an optimized interface growth process, where one is AlAs-like and the other is InSb-like grown on a relaxed AlSb buffer layer. The superlattice properties such as interface roughness and layer thickness are studied by grazing incidence x-ray reflectivity. The reflectivity curves are simulated by standard software till the simulation curves match well with the experimental curves. The simulation indicates that AlAs-like interfaces are much rougher than InSb-like interfaces. Grazing incidence x-ray reflectivity is also discussed as a powerful tool to assessing the structure properties of superlattices.

High quality colloidal photonic crystals made from polystyrene spheres with diameter 240 nm are fabricated by the vertical deposition method. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and the transmittance spectrum are used to characterize the properties of the photonic crystal. The SEM images show that there are few lattice defects. The transmittance of the photonic crystal is above 75% in the pass band at 700 nm and is lower than 5% at the centre of the band gap, respectively. It is found that proper concentration is a very important factor to fabricate the photonic crystal when the diameter of the spheres is lower than 300 nm.

We design a new double-layer grating template, which has the advantages of period uniformity, period number adjustability and continuous period regulation. By studying the transmission spectrum under the new template, we also find some new characteristics different from traditional fibre gratings: the resonant wavelength is mainly determined by the grating period; the intensity of transmission peak loss lies in the external pressures; the bandwidth of transmission spectrum can be controlled by the period number. Therefore, various applications can be realized by optimizing the transmission spectrum by reasonably selecting the matched parameters.

Atmospheric pressure glow discharge is observed for the first time in a surface discharge generator in flowing helium. Electrical and optical methods are used to measure the characteristics of atmospheric pressure glow discharge for different voltages. The results show that discharge current waveforms are asymmetric for the different polarities of the applied voltage. A continuous discharge profile with a width of several microseconds appears for per half cycle of the applied voltage when the voltage is increased to a certain value. The short-pulsed discharge and the continuous current would result from the Townsend breakdown and glow discharge mechanisms respectively. The properties of surface discharge in stagnant helium are completely different from that in flowing helium.

We study the geodesic motion of pseudo-classical spinning particles in the Kerr space-time and investigate the generalized Killing equations for spinning space. The constants of motion are derived from the solutions to these equations. We discuss the special cases of motion in a plane. Because of the angular momentum per unit mass, the spinning particles in Kerr space-time are different from those in Schwarzschild space-time.

We report on in situ high-pressure studies up to 1.0GPa on the MgB2 superconductor which was high-pressure synthesized. The as-prepared sample is of high quality in terms of sharp superconducting transition (Tc) at 39K from the magnetic measurements. The in situ high-pressure measurements were carried out using a Be-Cu piston-cylinder-type instrument with mixed oil as the pressure transmitting medium which warrants a quasi-hydrostatic pressure environment at low temperature. The superconducting transitions were measured using the electrical conductance method. It is found that Tc increases by more than 1K with pressure in the low-pressure range, before the Tc value decreases with the further increase of the pressure.
