Investigation of Electron Injection Parameters in Vacuum Laser Acceleration

We investigate the parameters such as the energy gains, comparisons for linearly and circularly polarized laser fields, the electron incident polarization azimuth angle, the electron incident crossing angle, and the electron incident momentum, etc., which are crucial for experimental test of the vacuum laser acceleration scheme in capture and acceleration scenario (CAS) [see, e.g., Phys. Rev. E 66 (2002) 066501]. Physical explanation of these features has been presented based on the CAS scheme. The results show that all those parameters are in the reasonable ranges obtainable by presently experimental facilities.

Eight 500 MHz cavities are applied in the storage ring of the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Factility (SSRF). In order to tune the cavities for different changing parameters and operation modes, the control system is es- sential for operations. The tuning is achieved by synchronizing the drive signal and the cavity probe signal. The error signal defined as their subtraction is amplified and used to drive a stepping motor, which in turn moves a metallic plunger in or out of the cavity by programmable logic controller (PLC). The tune speed is set to be 1kHz/s.

The thin film metal hydride has become an emerging field of research in metalhydride batteries for its good mechanical and hydrogenation properties. ZrV2 thin films have beenprepared using a dc magnetron sputtering method, and the phase structure is investigated. Onlyamorphous or crystalline Zr and V mixture phases are achieved when substrates are heated duringeither to 400 degrees C or to 550 degrees C. The annealing causes segregation of Zr and V in thefilm induced by strain-driven diffusion and interdiffusion between substrate Mo and film elements athigh temperature, which results in the formation of mixture phases of C14, C15, Zr and V, but thecontent of C15 phase is not higher compared with that in the bulk material.

For each of the Lie algebras gln and gl～n., we construct a family of integrable generalizations of the Toda chains characterized by two integers m+ and m-. The Lax matrices and the equations of motion are given explicitly, and the integrals of motion can be calculated in terms of the trace of powers of the Lax matrix L. For the case of m+ = m-,we find a symmetric reduction for each generalized Toda chain we found, and the solution to the initial value problems of the reduced systems is outlined. We also studied the spectral curves of the periodic (m+,m-)-Toda chains, which turns out to be very different for different pairs of m+ and m-. Finally we also obtain thenonabelian generalizations of the (m+, m-)-Toda chains in an explicit form.

The digital RF (Radio Frequency) phase detector based on commercial PXI (PCI eXtensions for Instru- mentation) modules for the Linac is fully described in the paper. The DBM (Double Balance Mixer) is used as the phase detector and its control and data acquisition system is based on the PXI bus. The software adopts a curve fitting algorithm. The prototype has been tested in the laboratory and the good resolution, accuracy, reproducibility and re- liability are expected. The system does not present the problems of analog solution.

We perform the calculation of the nucleus-nucleus interaction potential ofthe dinuclear system with deformed nuclei. Based on the calculated results by properly treating thedouble-folding method, some results from the analytical expressions for calculating both the nuclearand the Coulomb interactions are investigated. It is concluded that the analytical formula tocalculate the Coulomb interaction by Wong [Phys. Rev. Lett. 31 (1973) 766] can reproduce good doublefolding results. However the results by the parametrized Morse formula, which are used to calculatethe nuclear interaction, greatly deviate from the double folding results, unless the distance ofnuclei is adjusted to be shifted to a smaller relative distance determined by the same distancebetween the nuclear surfaces as one of them pertains to the deformed nuclei. Using the doublefolding method to calculate the nuclear interaction and employing Wong's analytical formula tocalculate the Coulomb interaction can keep good precision and can cost much less computation time.

A theoretical method is developed to find isomers of cluster particles, and the isomer spectrum of carbon clusters C-n (n = 3-44) is obtained. It is found that the isomers of 3-11 atoms are in either mono-ring or line shapes, while the isomers of 12-18 atoms show flat sheet shapes. As cluster size increases, bowl isomers become more (n > 19) until cage isomers dominate the structures (n > 27). Based on the isomer spectrum, results of a previous experiment are interpreted.

The independent yield distribution of the Hg isotopes, measured for the reaction of 600 MeV 18O projectile with a nat.Pb target, is converted to 18O+208Pb system and is compared with an Hg-isotope distribution from the spallation reaction of 1 A GeV 208Pb on proton. The comparison shows the differences between the two distributions on the production cross sections, isotope-distribution widths as well as their shapes. A great increase of the neutron-deficient Hg isotope yield with increase of bombarding energies of protons from 600 MeV to 1 GeV is derived. This fact results in an experimental evidence for rapid increasing neutron yields with rising proton bombarding energy from 0.6 GeV to 1 GeV.
