Inference of Reference Conditions for Nutrient Concentrations of Chaohu Lake Based on Model Extrapolation

In the mid-eastern China,there are few or no lakes which are in the absence of anthropogenic disturbances,or their sediments remain *** a result,the reference lakes distribution and paleolimnological reconstruction approaches usually are inappropriate to estimate lake reference conditions for *** yields the necessity of using the extrapolation methods to estimate the lake reference conditions for nutrients within those *** lake reference conditions for nutrients could be inferred inversely from the law of mass conservation,current lake nutrient concentration,and the loadings from *** the scarcity of hydrological and water quality data associated with lakes and watersheds in China,as well as the low requirement of the watershed nutrient loadings models for these data,the soil conservation service(SCS) distributed hydrological model and the universal soil loss equation(USLE) were *** SCS model simulates the runoff process of the watershed,thereby calculating dissolved nutrients *** USLE estimates the soil erosion and particulate nutrients annually in a ***,with the loadings from atmospheric deposition and point source,the previous annual average nutrient concentrations could be acquired given the current nutrient concentrations in a ***,the nutrient reference conditions minimally impacted by human activities could be *** on the proposed model,the reference conditions for total nitrogen and total phosphorus of Chaohu Lake,Anhui Province,China are 0.031 mg/L and 0.640 mg/L,*** proposed reference conditions estimation model is of clear physical concept,and less data ***,the proposed approach can be used in other lakes with similar circumstances.

A dynamic model for exploring water-resource management scenarios in an inland arid area: Shanshan County, Northwestern China

water scarcity is a challenge in many arid and semi-arid regions; this may lead to a series of environmental problems and could be stressed even further by the effects from climate change. This study focused on the water resource management in Shanshan County, an inland arid region located in northwestern China with a long history of groundwater overexploitation. A model of the supply and demand system in the study area from 2006 to2030, including effects from global climate change,was developed using a system dynamics(SD)modeling tool. This SD model was used to 1) explore the best water-resource management options by testing system responses under various scenarios and2) identify the principal factors affecting the responses, aiming for a balance of the groundwater system and sustainable socio-economic *** causes were identified as primarily responsible for water issues in Shanshan: low water-use efficiency low water reuse, and increase in industrial waterdemand. To address these causes, a combined scenario was designed and simulated, which was able to keep the water deficiency under 5% by 2030. The model provided some insights into the dynamic interrelations that generate system behavior and the key factors in the system that govern water demand and supply. The model as well as the study results may be useful in water resources management in Shanshan and may be applied, with appropriate modifications, to other regions facing similar water management challenges.

A critical challenge hindering the practical application of lithium–oxygen batteries(LOBs)is the inevitable problems associated with liquid electrolytes,such as evaporation and safety *** study addresses these problems by proposing a modified polyrotaxane(mPR)-based solid polymer electrolyte(SPE)design that simultaneously mitigates solvent-related problems and improves ***-SPE exhibits high ion conductivity(2.8×10^(−3)S cm^(−1)at 25℃)through aligned ion conduction pathways and provides electrode protection ability through hydrophobic chain *** this mPR-SPE into solid-state LOBs resulted in stable potentials over 300 *** situ Raman spectroscopy reveals the presence of an LiO_(2)intermediate alongside Li_(2)O_(2)during oxygen *** situ X-ray diffraction confirm the ability of the SPE to hinder the permeation of oxygen and moisture,as demonstrated by the air permeability *** present study suggests that maintaining a low residual solvent while achieving high ionic conductivity is crucial for restricting the sub-reactions of solid-state LOBs.

Hydrothermal Synthesis and Crystal Structure of One 3D Coordination Polymer of Nickel(Ⅱ) Achieved from 5-Iodo-isophthalic Acid Ligand

A new coordination polymer [Ni（L）（m-bix）（H2O）]n （1, H2L = 5-iodo-isophthalic acid, m-bix=1,3-bis（imidazol-1-ylmethyl）-benzene） has been synthesized by the hydrothermal method and characterized by IR, elemental analysis, powder XRD and single-crystal X-ray analysis. The crystal is of triclinic, space group Pī with a = 9.1638（3）, b = 10.2319（3）, c = 13.2463（4）？, α = 80.1710（10）, β = 83.671（2）, γ = 70.3790（10）o,C22H19NiIN4O5, Mr = 605.02, V = 1150.85（6）？3, Dc = 1.746 g/cm3, F（000） = 600, μ = 2.225 mm-1, S = 1.045 and Z = 2. The final R = 0.0388 and wR = 0.1257 for 5089 observed reflections with I 〉 2σ（I）. In the title complex, the M and P layers are arranged alternately to give a double-layer structure by the symmetry related hydrogen bonds, and these double-layers are further joined together to achieve a 2D supramolecular architecture through I···π interaction involving iodine atoms and imidazole rings. The thermal stability of the title complex was studied by thermal gravimetric （TG） and differential thermal analysis （DTA）.

The nitritation performance of biofilm reactor for treating domestic wastewater under high dissolved oxygen

Mechanism of enhanced removal of quinonic intermediates during electrochemical oxidation of Orange Ⅱ under ultraviolet irradiation

The effect of ultraviolet irradiation on generation of radicals and formation of intermediates was investigated in electrochemical oxidation of the azo-dye Orange I1 using a TiO2-modified β- PbO2 electrode. It was found that a characteristic absorbance of quinonic compounds at 255 nm, which is responsible for the rate-determining step during aromatics degradation, was formed only in electrocatalytic oxidation. The dye can be oxidized by either HO radicals or direct electron transfer. Quinonic compounds were produced concurrently. The removal of TOC by photo-assisted electrocatalytic oxidation was 1.56 times that of the sum of the other two processes, indicating a significant synergetic effect. In addition, once the ultraviolet irradiation was introduced into the process of electrocatalytic oxidation, the degradation rate of quinonic compounds was enhanced by as much as a factor of two. The more efficient generation of HO radicals resulted from the introduction of ultraviolet irradiation in electrocatalytic oxidation led to the significant synergetic effect as well as the inhibiting effect on the accumulation of quinonic compounds.

Comparison and Optimization of Mid-low Temperature Cogeneration systems for Flue Gas in Iron and Steel Plants

Three generation systems, namely, steam Rankine cycle （SRC）, organic Rankine cycle （ORC）, and steam-organic combined Rankine cycle （S-ORC）, were simulated using the engineering Equation Solver fEES） to efficiently utilize flue gas emissions from 200 to 450 ℃ in iron and steel plants. Based on the simulation results for thermal efficiency, exergy efficiency, and power generation, the performances of the three power generation systems were compared and analyzed. To further utilize waste heat from the turbine exhaust steam of the ORC system, cas- cade （）RC （CORC） was designed for heat sources above 300 ℃. Based on a comprehensive performance comparison, the application of the ORC using R141b is preferable for 200 to 300 ℃ flue gas. For 300 to 450 ℃ flue gas, CORC is an alternative technology to improve the efficiency and quality of waste heat utilization. For flue gas above 450 ℃, S-ORC can achieve higher efficiency and power generation than conventional SRC, with a relatively small negative pressure and high dryness of the turbine outlet steam. Hence, S-ORC can be considered as a substitute for SRC.

Effects of Elevated CO_2 and Drought on Plant Physiology, Soil Carbon and Soil Enzyme Activities

Global climate models have indicated high probability of drought occurrences in the coming future decades due to the impacts of climate change caused by a mass release of CO2. Thus, climate change regarding elevated ambient CO2 and drought may consequently affect the growth of crops. In this study, plant physiology, soil carbon, and soil enzyme activities were measured to investigate the impacts of elevated C02 and drought stress on a Stagn[c Anthrosol planted with soybean （Glycine ma,z）. Treatments of two CO2 levels, three soil moisture levels, and two soil cover types were established. The results indicated that elevated CO2 and drought stress significantly affected plant physiology. The inhibition of plant physiology by drought stress was mediated via prompted photosynthesis and water use efficiency under elevated CO2 conditions. Elevated CO2 resulted in a longer retention time of dissolved organic carbon （DOC） in soil, probably by improving the soil water effectiveness for organic decomposition and mineralization. Drought stress significantly decreased C：N ratio and microbial biomass carbon （MBC）, but the interactive effects of drought stress and CO2 on them were not significant. Elevated CO2 induced an increase in invertase and catalase activities through stimulated plant root exudation. These results suggested that drought stress had significant negative impacts on plant physiology, soil carbon, and soil enzyme activities, whereas elevated CO2 and plant physiological feedbacks indirectly ameliorated these impacts.

Fluvial geomorphology of the Middle Reach of the Huai River
