The COVID-19 pandemic in the ASEAN: A preliminary report on the spread, burden and medical capacities

Objective:To provide preliminary descriptions of the spread,burden and related medical capacity characteristics of the ASEAN ***:We utilized the data from four main official databases,including WHO reports,the Statistics and Research of the Coronavirus Disease,and the Southeast Asia Program of the Center for Strategic and International *** spread of the COVID-19 pandemic,current burden and the COVID-19 medical response capacities were extracted before April 11,***:As of April 13,2020,the ASEAN countries reported19547 COVID-19 positive cases with 817 deaths(case-facility rate of 4.2%).Thailand was the first country in the region that reported having the COVID-19 cases,while Laos was the last to report confirmed COVID-19 *** for the number of deaths to double were between 8-12 *** the testing and treatment capacities,the number of PCR tests provided to the populations was the highest in Vietnam,followed by Singapore,malaysia,and ***,the percentage of the population being tested was the highest in Brunei(2.31%),followed by Singapore(1.30%).Conclusions:A wide range of interventions were taken into practice in response to the outbreak with an effort of curbing the rise of this ***,special care should not be overlooked as the pandemic is placing a huge impact on the population and becomes increasingly *** tackle the spread of the pandemic in the region,the ASEAN countries should work together as one community to provide better responses to future pandemics and other transboundary public health challenges.

OBJECTIVE Eurycoma longifolia is a tropical medicinal plant belonging to Simaroubaceae distributed in South East *** aim of this study is to explore the effect and mechanism of *** stem 70%ethanol extract(EL)and its active com⁃poundson uric acid *** Potassium oxonate(PO)induced hyperuricemia rats and adenine-PO induced hyperuricemia mouse model were used to evaluate the effects of *** Performance Liquid Chromatography was used to determine the levels of plasma or serum uric acid and ***-eosin staining was applied to observe kidney pathological changes,Western blot⁃ting was applied to detect protein expression levels of uric acid *** of constituents on urate uptake were tested in hU⁃RAT1-expressing HEK293T *** EL significantly reduced serum and plasma uric acid levels at dosages of 100,200 and 400 mg·kg^-1 in hyperuricemia rats and mice,and increased the clearance rate of uric acid and creatinine,improved therenal pathological *** protein expression levels of urate reabsorption transporter 1(URAT1)and glucose transporter 9 were down-regulated while sodium-dependent phosphate transporter 1 and ATP-binding cassette transporter G2 were up-regulated in the kidney after EL treat⁃*** diterpenes(50μmol·L^-1)isolated from EL showed inhibitory effects on urate uptake in hURAT1-expressing HEK293T cells,and the effect of eurycomanol was further confirmed in *** EL significantly reduced blood uric acid levels and prevented pathological changes of kidney in PO induced hyperuricemia animal model,improved renal urate *** partly clarified the mechanism was related to suppressing effect of URAT1 by diterpene in *** study is the first to demonstrate that EL plays a role in hyperuricemia by promoting renal uric acid excretion.

This paper summarizes results of a survey of the operational status of tropical cyclone(TC) forecast verifi-cation in the western North Pacific region, covering the Members of the ESCAP/WMO Typhoon Committee, RSMC Tokyo-Typhoon Center, and JTWC. Results of the survey indicate that significant efforts have been focused on the verification of TC forecast guidance by operational forecast agencies in the region, either individually or through international cooperation. A variety of TC forecast verification products are available to the forecasters in either real time or in post-season through multiple means, with the main focus on the deterministic track and intensity forecasts. Only a few verification products are available for probabilistic forecasts. Verification of TC precipitation and high wind forecasts are also lacking sufficient attention in the region. It would be helpful in the future to focus more attention toward these aspects and incorporate methods that will provide a greater depth of information regarding the TC forecast performance.

Analysis of Aroma Volatile Profile of Philippine Durian Pulp （Durio zibethinus Rumph, ex Murray） Using HS-SPME Coupled with GC-MS

Durian （Durio zibethinus Rumph. ex Murray） is an exotic tropical fruit known for its excellent flavor and strong distinctive aroma. Volatiles of durian pulp from different cultivars in Thailand, malaysia and Indonesia were already reported. However, no study of volatiles from Philippine ＂Puyat＂ durian is available. ＂Puyat＂ is the most preferred by consumers in the Philippines due to its firm flesh with sweet and buttery taste. Aroma volatile compounds were analyzed by headspace solid phase microextraction （HS-SPME） method and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry （GC-MS）. Volatiles were extracted for 1 h using 65 μm PDM/DVB SPME fiber and separated by DB-WAX capillary column （30 m × 0.25 mm id × 0.25 μm film thickness）. Durian pulp produced 22 volatiles composed of 15 esters, six sulfurs and one thioacetal. Ethyl propanoate, ethyl octanoate, propyl propanoate, ethyl 2-methyl butanoate and diethyl disulfide were the major compounds identified. These compounds were also reported to be the most abundant in durian cultivars of other countries. Results of this study can then be used for future development of postharvest technologies to control the production of volatiles from Philippine durian pulp.
