Effects of exercise on Behavior and Peripheral Blood Lymphocyte Apoptosis in a Rat Model of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

This study examined the effects of exercise on behavior and peripheral blood leukocyte apoptosis in a rat model of chronic fatigue syndrome （CFS）. Thirty-six healthy male Sprague-Dawley rats were equally randomized into 3 groups： the control group, CFS model group and the exercise group in terms of body weight. A total of 25 rats entered the final statistical analysis due to 11 deaths during the study. CFS model was established by subjecting the rats in CFS model group and exercise group to electric shock, chronic restraint stress and cold water swim. Besides, rats in the exercise group took rtmning wheel exercise. After a week of conditioning feeding, model construction and running wheel exercise were performed simultaneously, and lasted for 23 consecutive days. The behavior experiments, including running wheel exercise, open-field test, tail suspension test and Morris water maze test, were conducted, either before or after the model establishment. Rats were sacrificed and peripheral blood was obtained for the assessment of lymphocyte apoptosis index by flow cytometry （FCM）. It was found that as compared with those in the control group, the weight of the rats was decreased obviously （P〈0.01）, the mobility time in the open-field and the tail suspension tests was shortened significantly （P〈0.01）, the time to locate the platform was enhanced （P〈0.01） and the cell apoptosis index was increased substantially （P〈0.01） in the CSF model group. Meanwhile, in comparison to the model group, the behavior in the open-field and the tail suspension tests was improved significantly （P〈0.05）, and the apoptosis index decreased remarkably （P〈0.01） in the exercise group. It is concluded that sport intervention can prevent lymphocyte apoptosis and improve animal behavior rather than the memory.

AIM To examine the effect of combined exercise on colonic transit time(CTT) in admitted psychiatric patients. METHODS Over a 6-mo period, consecutive in patients with mental illness were recruited from the Somang Hospital Psychiatry Unit. A combined exercise program that included 60 min per day of exercise 3 d per week for 12 wk was performed. Physical fitness and CTT of the patients were measured twice before and twice after the exercise program. CTT was measured using a multiple marker technique with a radio-opaque marker. Changes in the exercising patients' CTT and weight-,cardiovascular-and fitness-related parameters were statistically *** After the 12-wk combined exercise intervention, decreased intestinal transit time was observed in all CTTs of the exercise group, including the right CTT(exercise: 15.6 ± 15.2 vs 9.2 ± 11.9, control: 13.1 ± 10.4 vs 10.9 ± 18.7), left CTT(exercise: 19.7 ± 23.5 vs 10.4 ± 13.2, control: 19.2 ± 19.0 vs 16.9 ± 19.8), recto-sigmoid CTT(exercise: 14.3 ± 16.7 vs 6.7 ± 7.9, control: 15.0 ± 14.4 vs 19.3 ± 30.3), and total colonic transit time(TCTT)(exercise: 50.2 ± 38.1 vs 27.1 ± 28.0, control: 47.4 ± 34.6 vs 47.3 ± 47.3). After the 12-wk combined exercise period, TCTT was significantly shortened in the exercise group compared with that in the control group. In addition to eating habits, water intake, and fiber intake, the increased physical activity level as a result of the 12-wk combined exercise program reduced the CTT.

Intrinsic factors such as leg length,arm length,flexibility and training history are factors that may be relevant to the optimisation of the individual bicycle configuration *** fitting methods do not always take all these variables into account,and as yet there have been limited studies examining how these variables can affect the cyclist's position on the *** main aims of this study were to establish how individual anthropometrics,training history and flexibility may influence cyclists'freely chosen bicycle configuration,and to determine the full-body static flexion angles chosen by cyclists on the *** well-trained male cyclists were recruited for the study.A multivariate linear regression analysis was performed to predict the four main configurations of a bicycle(saddle height,saddle setback,handlebar reach and handlebar drop)based on individual anthropometrics,flexibility and training *** joint kinematic ranges for the knee(36°±7°)and elbow(19°±8°)joint supported previous ***(77°±5°)and shoulder(112°±7°)joint angles should be determined as true clinical *** leg length(p<0.01),Knee Extension Angle test(p<0.01)and mSchober test(p=0.04)were significant predictors for determining saddle *** flexibility can be used to predict handlebar drop(p=0.01).A cyclist who wishes to adopt a more aerodynamic position with an increased handlebar drop should aim to improve their hamstring flexibility.

Background: A central aim of physical education is the promotion of basic motor competencies(in German: Motorische Basiskompetenzen;MOBAK), which are prerequisites for children's active participation in sports culture. This article introduces the MOBAK-1 test instrument for 6-to 8-year-old children and determines the construct validity of this test instrument. In addition, the relationship between MOBAK and motor ability(i.e., strength) as well as body mass index(BMI), sex, and age is ***: We analyzed data of 923 first and second graders(422 girls, 501 boys, age = 6.80 ±0.44 years). The children's basic motor competencies were assessed by the MOBAK-1 test instrument. Besides analyses of frequency, correlation, and variance, 3 confirmatory factor analyses with covariates were ***: We found 2 MOBAK factors consisting of 4 items each. The first factor, locomotion, included the items balancing, rolling, jumping, and side stepping; the second factor, object control, included the items throwing, catching, bouncing, and dribbling. The motor ability strength had a significant influence on the factors locomotion(b = 0.60) and object control(b = 0.50). Older pupils achieved better results than younger pupils on object control(b = 0.29). Boys performed better on object control(b = -0.44), whereas girls achieved better results in locomotion(b = 0.07).Pupils with a high BMI achieved lower performance only on the factor locomotion(b =-0.28).Conclusion: The MOBAK-1 test instrument developed for this study meets psychometric validity demands and is suitable to evaluate effects of sports and physical education.
