Plasmonic nanostructure-mediated photothermal therapy(PTT) has proven to be a promising approach for cancer treatment,and new approaches for its effective delivery to tumor lesions are currently being *** study aimed to assess macrophage-mediated delivery of PTT using radioiodine-124-labeled gold nanoparticles with crushed gold shells(124I-Au@AuCBs) as a theranostic nanoplatform.124I-Au@AuCBs exhibited effective photothermal conversion effects both in vitro and in vivo and were efficiently taken up by macrophages without *** the administration of 124I-Au@AuCB-labeled macrophages to colon tumors,intensive signals were observed at tumor lesions,and subsequent in vivo PTT with laser irradiation yielded potent antitumor *** results indicate the considerable potential of 124I-Au@AuCBs as novel theranostic nanomaterials and the prominent advantages of macrophage-mediated cellular therapies in treating cancer and other diseases.

Index for climate change adaptation in China and its application

With the increasing awareness of the risks and impacts of climate change, scholars tend to pay more attention to the applications of indicators, which access the effectiveness of climate change adaptation. This study aims to evaluate the overall progress of climate change adaptation in China during 2010–2018 in a quantitative manner. The Index for Climate Change Adaptation in China (ICCAC) has been thus developed by adopting the analytic hierarchy process weighting and expert scoring method. Namely, ICCAC is composed of national climate change impacts, adaptation actions in key sectors, adaptation progress in key sectors, and the national adaptation policy framework. Overall, the ICCAC and its four sub-indexes increased significantly from 2010 to 2018, on a yearly-basis. Each sub-index implied that the socio-economic impacts caused by climate change in China have been alleviated gradually;specifically, the mainstream endeavor of key sectors has witnessed remarkable progress, however, it is worth noting that the gap between individual adaptation actions and policies still exists;the implementation effect of policies in key sectors is not as affluent as that of actions;the current adaptation endeavor in key areas is still closely related to the mainstream business of corresponding competent ministries rather than adaptation-aimed actions;the national adaptation policy framework has been primarily formed, but there are still some deficiencies. As a result, the gap in China's adaptation process could be mainly manifested in the following five aspects: i) adaptation effectiveness assessment in forestry and urban infrastructure is urgently needed;ii) policies in marine and water resources sectors need structural reforms;iii) evaluation criteria for national adaptation are not necessarily sufficient;iv) the improvement of adaptive management efficiency has stagnated recently;and v) the adaptation works of relevant Ministries should be coordinated and put forward the corres

Discovering genes responsible for silk synthesis in Bombyx moriby piggyBac-based random insertional mutagenesis

Silkworm mutants are valuable resources for both transgenic breeding and gene discovery. PiggyBac-based random insertional mutagenesis has been widely used in gene functional studies. In order to discover genes involved in silk synthesis, a piggyBac-based random insertional library was constructed using Bombyx mori, and the mutants with abnormal cocoon were particularly screened. By this means, a “thin cocoon” mutant was identified. This mutant revealed thinner cocoon shell and shorter posterior silk gland (PSG) compared with the wild type. The messenger RNA (mRNA) levels of all the three fibroin genes, including Fib-H, Fib-L and P25, were significantly down-regulated in the PSG of mutants. Four piggyBac insertion sites were identified in Aquaporin (AQP), Longitudinals lacking protein-like {Lola), Glutamyl aminopeptidase-like (GluAP) and Loc101744460. The mRNA levels of all the four genes were significantly altered in the silk gland of mutants. In particular, the mRNA amount of AQP, a gene responsible for the regulation of osmotic pressure, decreased dramatically immediately prior to the spinning stage in the anterior silk gland of mutants. The identification of the genes disrupted in the “thin cocoon” mutant in this study provided useful information for understanding silk production and transgenic breeding of silkworms in the future.

Adoption of HPAI biosecurity measures： The Chinese broiler industry

Highly pathogenic avian influenza （HPAI） contamination via wild birds and rodents poses a threat to food security and safety. As chicken meat comprises an increasing proportion of diet in China, it is useful to determine whether broiler farmers are adopting wild bird and rodent controls to minimize the risk of HPAI impacts on food supply. Our study surveyed a cross sectional sample of 331 Chinese broiler farmers in six provinces. We find that only 47% of farmers （mainly farmers with large herds） adopted control measures against wild birds and rodents, while 14% adopted no measures. Farm size was the biggest driver of adoption followed by proportion of farm revenue derived from broiler production. However, southern farmers were at a far greater probability of non-adoption. We suggest that assistance in the form of education/training programs and subsidized traps or baiting controls across smaller producers could help raise of the adoption level toward more effective HPAI control.

In this work,the flow behaviors and microstructure evolution of a powder metallurgy nickel-based superalloy during superplastic compression is *** on the strain rate sensitivity m determined by flow data,superplastic region is estimated at relatively low temperature and strain rate domains,specifically around 1000℃/10^-3s^-***,the cylinder specimens are isothermally compressed at 1000℃/10^-3s^-1 and 1025℃/10^-3s^-1 with different strains,to exam the superplasticity and related *** experimental results indicate that the accumulated dislocations are mainly annihilated by dynamic recovery and dynamic recrystallization(DRX),and the grain boundary sliding(GBS)contributes to the total strain during superplastic compression as *** addition,the cavities and cracks at triple junctions or interfaces between matrix and second phase particle have not been detected,which is different from superplastic tensile deformation.

Rational catalyst design and mechanistic evaluation for electrochemical nitrogen reduction at ambient conditions

Ammonia(NH3), a carbon-free hydrogen carrier, is an important commodity for the food supply chain owing to its high energy capacity and ease of storage and transport. The Haber-Bosch process is currently the favored industrial method for large-scale ammonia production but requires energy-intensive and sophisticated infrastructure which hampers its utilization in a sustainable and decentralized system of *** electrochemical nitrogen reduction reaction(eNRR) at ambient conditions holds great potential for sustainable production of ammonia using electricity generated from renewable energy sources such as solar and wind. However, this approach is limited by a low rate of ammonia production with high overpotential and the competing hydrogen evolution reaction(HER). For a better understanding and utilization of eNRR as a sustainable process, insight into rational catalyst design and mechanistic evaluations by a theoretically-directed experimental approach is imperative. Herein, recent insights into rational catalyst design and mechanisms, based on intrinsic and extrinsic catalytic activity are *** the elucidation of basic principles and mechanisms, a framework supplied by theoretical studies that lead to the optimal selection and development of eNRR catalysts is presented. Following a discussion of recently developed electrocatalysts for eNRR, we outline various recently-used theoretical and experimental methodologies to improve the intrinsic and extrinsic catalytic activity of advanced *** review is anticipated to contribute to the development of active, selective, and efficient catalysts for nitrogen reduction.

Adsorption behavior of Pb^(2+) and Cd^(2+) ions on bauxite flotation tailings

The adsorption behavior of Pb2+ and Cd2+ ions on bauxite flotation tailings was investigated to demonstrate the adsorptivity of the bauxite flotation *** adsorption percentage of Pb2+ and Cd2+ ions as a function of adsorbent dosage,solution pH value and shaking time were determined by batch *** maximum adsorption percentage of 99.93% for Pb2+ ions and 99.75% for Cd2+ ions were obtained by using bauxite flotation tailings as *** methods,such as zeta potentials,specific surface area measurements and the analysis of adsorption kinetics,were introduced to analyze the adsorption mechanisms of the Pb2+ ions on bauxite flotation *** isoelectric point of bauxite flotation tailings shifts from 3.6 to 5.6 in the presence of Pb2+ *** specific surface area of bauxite flotation tailings changes from 12.57 to 20.63 m2/g after the adsorption of Pb2+ *** results indicate that a specific adsorption of the cation species happens on the surface of bauxite flotation *** data of Pb2+ ions on the surface of bauxite flotation tailings can be well described by Langmuir model,and the pseudo-second-order kinetic model provides the best correlation for the adsorption data of Pb2+ and Cd2+ ions on bauxite flotation tailings.

Ecological Risk of Heavy Metals in Sediment Around Techeng Island Special Marine Reserves in Zhanjiang Bay

The concentrations of five metals(Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd and Hg) were measured in sediments obtained before and after the establishment of Techeng Island Special Marine Reserves(TCISMR) in Zhanjiang Bay to evaluate the ecological risk of heavy metals. The results showed that average values of potential ecological risk indexes of heavy metals at all stations increased slightly from 32.09 to 30.54 after establishment of TCISMR. Optimal semivariance simulation showed that the contents of five heavy metals have strong spatial correlations in August 2010(before), while this correlations weakened in April 2013(after establishment of TCISMR), suggesting that the main sources of heavy metals changed. The Hakanson Risk Index(HRI) values in Donghai levee, central and southern parts of Zhanjiang harbor were high up to 60.13 and 46.46, respectively. And Zhanjiang Bay Channel, the areas around special marine reserves, the artificial reef areas and mangrove areas at south of Techeng Island are the areas with low ecological risk and high ecological value, which should be treated as the prior ecological protection areas. Our study provided a priority control pattern of heavy metal pollution in TCISMR, which greatly benefits the sustainable development and resource protection in Zhanjiang Bay.
