Summary What is already known about this topic?Earlier studies indicated that shorter or excessive sleep duration at baseline was related to cognitive impairment.Yet few studies have been concerned with the association between sleep duration changes and cognitive performance,especially in low-and middleincome countries.What is added by this report?A prospective cohort study suggests that maintaining moderate sleep duration may lead to optimal cognitive performance.Either decreasing,increasing,or keeping a longer sleep duration is associated with the risk of cognitive impairment among Chinese elderly aged 65 years and over.

According to the Seventh National Census of China,the population of adults aged 65 and above will be 190 million in 2020(13.5%of the total population).As the“post-60s”group born at the second childbirth peak reaches retirement age,the growth rate of the population of older adults will accelerate significantly.By 2030,the proportion of older population(aged 65 and above)will reach about 17%,and the growth rate of the population aged 80 and above will be even more pronounced.

Current progress in measuring the effect of the pandemic on mortality is limited.Few studies have comprehensively and systematically elucidated the mechanism through which the pandemic affects mortality and what indicators are valid to capture such an effect.This paper presents a comprehensive analysis regarding the multifaceted effects of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)on mortality and its measurements[i.e.,confirmed deaths per million people(CDPMP),case fatality rate(CFR),infection fatality risk(IFR),excess mortality P-score(EMPS),and life expectancy(LE)].It was revealed that both data collection efforts and measurements on mortality due to COVID-19 were far from perfect and discussed the importance of accurate,prompt,and accessible data by any government over the course of fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic.It is believed that the biggest challenge in measuring the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on mortality lies not in the construction of indicators at the academic level,but in the collection of data at the practical level.Thus,it is suggested to take measures to better monitor the development of the pandemic and mitigate the increasing burdens borne by the public health systems by improving the tracking system of mortality,standardizing the diagnosis of COVID-19’s deaths,and disclosing mortality data.

Summary What is already known about this topic?Available evidence suggested that 31%of the world’s population do not meet the minimum recommendations for physical activity.What is added by this report?The latest findings showed that physical activity level(PAL),metabolic equivalents(MET)in min/week withpopulation in Changchunyuan Community,Weixiuyuan Community,Zhongguanyuan Community,Yanbeiyuan Community,Kangzeyuan Community,and Xima Community,respectively.The moderate and high PAL was associated with a decreased risk of hypertension,cardiovascular disease,dyslipidemia,and poor sleep.What are the implications for public health practice?More attention should be given to the middle-aged population who may be at high risk of insufficient physical activity in urban environments as it is of public health significance for improving the community population health.

The disparate economic growth in China has compelled numerous adults from rural areas to migrate to cities in search of more lucrative employment prospects(1).In the 7th National Census,it was reported that the floating population totaled 375,816,759,accounting for approximately 26.00%of the overall population.Such migratory patterns often result in leaving behind vulnerable groups,particularly children and older adults,in rural regions.Given the inadequately established care systems,these groups are particularly susceptible and have consistently been at the forefront of social security concerns in China(2).
