Let G be a simple graph. Define R(G) to be the graph obtained from G by adding a new vertex e* corresponding to each edge e = (a, b) of G and by joining each new vertex e* to the end vertices a and b of the edge e corresponding to it. In this paper, we prove that the number of matchings of R(G) is completely determined by the degree sequence of vertices of G.

A new type of metal coordinated liquid crystalline polymers has been synthesized by complexation of metal ions with β-diketone based side chain liquid crystal polysiloxane (DKLCP). The complexation of copper ions with DKLCP greatly increases the phase transition temperature T_k from crystalline state to liquid crystalline state and T_(cl) from LC to isotropic state and makes the range of phase transition ΔT (ΔT=T_(cl)-T_k) widened. These complexes are soluble in common organic solvents. However, the incorporation of europium ions into DKLCP molecules gives rise to reduction in liquid crystallinity and crosslinking in some cases. The DKLCP coordinated with suitable amount of Eu ions can show good liquid crystallinity and fluorescent property.

Electro-acupuncture (EA) has been found to increase enkephalin content in striatum, hypothalamusand cerebrospinal fluid. Further studies on rat striatum showed that the increase is accompanied by anelevation of enkephalin precursor and processed intermediate levels. In order to characterize the natureof these changes, we have measured the proenkephalin mRNA (PE-mRNA) level in rat striatum and pi-tuitary by recombinant DNA technique. The PE-mRNA was hybridized with human proenkephalincDNA using a dot-blot procedure. Rats receiving EA showed a 3-5-fold increase of PE-mRNA instriatum beginning at 1 h after the cessation of 30-min EA treatment and lasting 48 h at least. A 3-foldincrease of PE-mRNA in pituitary was found immediately after the cessation of EA and a 5-6-fold in-crease at 1 or 24 h after the termination of EA.

A silica-supported carboxymethylcellulose platinum complex (abbreviated as SiO_2-CMC-Pt) has been prepared and characterized by XPS. Its catalytic properties for hydro-genation of aromatic compounds were studied. The results showed that this catalystcould catalyze the hydrogenation of phenol, anisol, p-cresol, benzene and toluene to cyclo-hexanol, cyclohexyl methyl ether, p-methyl cyclohexanol, cyclohexane and methylcyclo-hexane, respectively in 100% yield at 30℃ and 1 atm. In the hydrogenation of phenol,COO/Pt ratio in SiO_2-CMC-Pt has much influence on the initial hydrogenation rate andthe selectivity for the intermediate product, cyclohexanone. The highest initial rate andthe highest yield of cyclohexanone both occur at COO/Pt ratio of 6. The complex is stableduring the reaction and can be used repeatedly.

A method, called Two-Dimensional Extended Attribute Grammars (2-DEAGs). for the recognition of hand-printed Chinese characters is presented. This method uses directly two dimensional information, and pro- vides a scheme for dealing with various kinds of specific cases in a uniform way. In this method, components are drawn in guided and redundant way and reductions are made level by level just in accordance with the com- ponent combination relations of Chinese characters. The method provides also polysemous grammars, coexisting grammars and structure inferrings which constrain redundant recognition by comparison among similar characters or components and greatly increase the tolerance ability to distortion.

Two types of the regular copolymer of poly (1, 4-phenyleneterephthalamide) were synthesized by the low temperature solution polycondensation in NMP-CaCl_2 solvent system, using the piperazine or 2,5-dimethylpiperazine as the third components introduced in the main chain of poly (1, 4-phenyleneterephthalamide). Three kinds of polypyrrolones (PMDA-DAB, PMDA-TADPE and DEDA-DAB) were pyrolyzed at high temperature in order to study the effect of the chain structure of polypyrrolones on the electrical properties of the pyrolyzed polymers. Results show that the number of fusing rings in the main chain of polymers has a little effect on the pyrolysis process, whereas, the ether bond in the main chain plays an important role during pyrolysis. Structure characterizations by elemental analysis, XPS spectra, X-ray diffraction and SEM images indicate that because the ether bond is easy to break, it is difficult to form large area planar network. This hampers the formation of the graphite-like structure in the polypyrrolones containing ether bond even after being pyrolyzed at 1200 degrees C.
