Fuel classification and mapping from satellite imagines

Background, Motivation and Objective In recent years, the use of nonlinear ultrasound in medical and industrial applications has increased rapidly. Harmonic signals, generated from nonlinear distortion of ultrasonic wave propagation in fluid or solid media, play an important role not only in ultrasonic medical imaging to provide higher resolution and higher contrast to tissue ratio, but also in nondestructive testing of fatigue cracks to provide higher sensitivity. A perturbation approach is usually utilized to solve the nonlinear wave equation, which predicts second harmonic growing linearly with travelling distance. Obviously, it is the ideal case when neither diffraction nor attenuation is considered. The Khokhlov-Zabolotskaya-Kuznetsov(KZK) equation provides a more realistic model, with material attenuation and diffraction from finite aperture source considered, for describing the nonlinear development of a traveling acoustic wave in homogeneous fluids. The solutions both in time domain and spectral domain have been developed. However, the KZK model assumes that the acoustic energy propagates in a fairly narrow beam, thus it is not valid for field points that are close to the source or far away from the axis. We present a finite element model that embodies all the factors(diffraction, attenuation, receiver integration and tone-burst excitation) mentioned previously to describe the nonlinear characteristics of the ultrasonic field radiated by a plane circular piston source in fluids more accurately. Statement of Contribution/Methods Acoustic field radiated by a plane circular piston source can be modeled by a 2D axial symmetry model. Taking advantage of PZFlex package, which solves the continuity equation, momentum conservation equation and equation of state using an incrementally linear, 2nd order accurate, explicit algorithm in time domain, and the acoustic nonlinearities are computed. This paper summarizes the fuel type systems currently adopted by the fire danger rating systems or fire behavior prediction systems of some countries, such as Canada, the United States, Australia, Greece, and Switzerland. As an example, the Canadian Forest Fire Danger Rating System organizes fuel types into five major groups, with a total of 16 discrete fuel types recognized. In the United States National Fire Danger Rating System, fuel models are divided into four vegetation groups and twenty fire behavior fuel models. The Promethus System （Greece） divides fuels into 7 types, and Australia has adopted only three distinct fuel types： open grasslands, dry eucalyptus forests, and heath/shrublands. Four approaches to mapping fuels are acceptable： field reconnaissance, direct mapping methods, indirect mapping methods, and gradient modeling. Satellite remote-sensing techniques provide an alternative source of obtaining fuel data quickly, since they provide comprehensive spatial coverage and enough temporal resolution to update fuel maps in a more efficient and timely manner than traditional aerial photography or fieldwork. Satellite sensors can also provide digital information that can be easily tied into other spatial databases using Geographic Information System （GIS） analysis, which can be used as input in fire behavior and growth models. Various fuel-mapping methods from satellite remote sensing are discussed in the paper. According to the analysis of the fuel mapping techniques worldwide, this paper suggests that China should first create appropriate fuel types for its fire agencies before embarking on developing a national fire danger rating system to improve the current data situation for it＇s fire management programs.

Head-type of pedestrian protection needs high requirements for simulation *** order to improve simulation accuracy,the influence of four types of factors,including structural simulation,simulation settings,subsystem modeling,and material model application,on accuracy of HIC simulation were studied in the forn of comparing simulation with *** results of the study show that:The geometric difference has a great influence on the simulation accuracy and the average influence level can reach about20%.After the element size is adjusted from 10 mm to 5 mm,the accuracy can be increased by 3%.However,considering the accuracy and computing resource requirements,the recommended mesh size of the metal parts in the model is about 5 mm to 7 mm on *** settings of the shell element and solid element,contact and time step size have little influence on the simulation accuracy,all within5%.The type 16 element should be *** addition,errors caused by the concentration of added mass should be avoided in the *** simulation of heat shield,connection of adhesive,and the inner and outer panel edges of the hood have little influence on the simulation accuracy,at about 1%.Structures such as locks,hinges,bolts,air braces,and wipers are greatly affected by the connection method,and simple rigid connections cannot be *** simulation methods should be adopted according to the actual *** material cards of headlights and front frame have a great effect on the simulation accuracy,the use of MAT187 material containing failure information is more accurate.

Textile-based technologies are considered as potential routes for the production of 3D porous architectures for tissue engineering( TE) applications. We describe the use of two polymers,namely polybutylene succinate( PBS) and silk fibroin(SF) to produce fiber-based finely tuned porous architectures by weft and warp knittings. The obtained knitted constructs are described in terms of their morphology, mechanical properties,swelling ability,degradation behaviour,and cytotoxicity. Each type of polymer fibers allows for the processing of a very reproducible intra-architectural scaffold geometry,with distinct characteristics in terms of the surface physicochemistry,mechanical performance,and degradation capability,which has an impact on the resulting cell behaviour at the surface of the respective biotextiles. Preliminary cytotoxicity screening shows that both materials can support cell adhesion and proliferation. Furthermore, different surface modifications were performed( acid /alkaline treatment, UV radiation,and plasma) for modulating cell behavior. An increase of cell-material interactions were observed,indicating the important role of materials surface in the first hours of culturing. Human adipose-derived stem cells( hASCs) became an emerging possibility for regenerative medicine and tissue replacement therapies. The potential of the recently developed silk-based biotextile structures to promote hASCs adhesion,proliferation,and differentiation is also evaluated. The obtained results validate the developed constructs as viable matrices for TE applications. Given the processing efficacy and versatility of the knitting technology, and the interesting structural and surface properties of the proposed polymer fibers,it is foreseen that our developed systems can be attractive for the functional engineering of tissues such as bone,skin,ligaments or cartilage and also for develop more complex systems for further industrialization of TE products.

Objective and Impact *** of blood vessels from two-photon microscopy(2PM)angiograms of brains has important applications in hemodynamic analysis and disease ***,we develop a generalizable deep learning technique for accurate 2PM vascular segmentation of sizable regions in mouse brains acquired from multiple 2PM *** technique is computationally efficient,thus ideal for large-scale neurovascular *** segmentation from 2PM angiograms is an important first step in hemodynamic modeling of brain *** segmentation methods based on deep learning either lack the ability to generalize to data from different imaging systems or are computationally infeasible for large-scale *** this work,we overcome both these limitations by a method that is generalizable to various imaging systems and is able to segment large-scale *** employ a computationally efficient deep learning framework with a loss function that incorporates a balanced binary-cross-entropy loss and total variation regularization on the network’s *** effectiveness is demonstrated on experimentally acquired in vivo angiograms from mouse brains of dimensions up to 808×808×702μ*** demonstrate the superior generalizability of our framework,we train on data from only one 2PM microscope and demonstrate high-quality segmentation on data from a different microscope without any network ***,our method demonstrates 10×faster computation in terms of voxels-segmented-per-second and 3×larger depth compared to the *** work provides a generalizable and computationally efficient anatomical modeling framework for brain vasculature,which consists of deep learning-based vascular segmentation followed by *** paves the way for future modeling and analysis of hemodynamic response at much greater scales that were inaccessible before.
