Integration of zircon and apatite U–Pb geochronology and geochemical mapping of the Wude basalts(Emeishan large igneous province):A tool for a better understanding of the tectonothermal and geodynamic evolution of the Emeishan LIP

Radiogenic isotopic dating and Lu–Hf isotopic composition using laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry(LA-ICP-MS)of the Wude basalt in Yunnan province from the Emeishan large igneous province(ELIP)yielded timing of formation and post-eruption tectonothermal *** lithogeochemistry and elements mapping of basaltic rocks were further reevaluated to provide insights into crustal contamination and formation of the ELIP.A zircon U–Pb age of 251.3±2.0 Ma of the Wude basalt recorded the youngest volcanic eruption event and was consistent with the age span of 251-263 Ma for the emplacement of the *** zircons hadε_(Hf)(t)values ranging from7.3 to+2.2,identical to those of magmatic zircons from the intrusive rocks of the ELIP,suggesting that crust-mantle interaction occurred during magmatic emplacement,or crust-mantle mixing existed in the deep source region prior to deep *** apatite U–Pb age at 53.6±3.4 Ma recorded an early Eocene magmatic superimposition of a regional tectonothermal event,corresponding to the Indian–Eurasian plate *** Nb,Ta,Ti and P anomalies of the Emeishan basalt may reflect crustal *** uneven Nb/La and Th/Ta values distribution throughout the ELIP supported a mantle plume model ***,the ELIP was formed as a result of a mantle plume which was later superimposed by a regional tectonothermal event attributed to the Indian–Eurasian plate collision during early Eocene.

Three-dimensional electrical resistivity structure beneath the Cuonadong dome in the Northern Himalayas revealed by magnetotelluric data and its implication

The North Himalayan gneiss domes(NHGD),as one of the extensional structures widely distributed across the southern Tibetan Plateau,are an important window for studying post-collisional diastrophism and magmation as well as polymetallic ***,the deep mechanism for the formation of NHGD remains *** magnetotelluric(MT)method was adopted to study the deep structure of the Cuonadong dome in the Northern *** characteristics of the dome were explored by using the MT sounding curves and phase ***-dimensional(3D)MT inversion was performed to determine the electrical resistivity structure beneath the Cuonadong *** preferred 3D electrical resistivity model shows that an obvious low-resistivity anomaly develops beneath the Cuonadong dome which is overlaid by a high-resistivity body and surrounded by an apparent subcircular zone of low-resistivity *** integrated conductivity(longitudinal conductance)from depths of 1-20 km indicates that the average longitudinal conductance at the core of the Cuonadong dome is about 10,000 *** high-conductivity anomaly at the core is found to be analogous to that of lava,mainly resulting from the crustal partial melting,and the estimated melt content is 11.0-17.3%.The high conductance surrounding the dome reaches 20,000 S on average,which is mainly attributed to saline *** results in this study support that the Cuonadong dome experienced magmatic *** together with previous geological and geochemical studies,we suggest that under the east-west(E-W)extensional tectonic setting in southern Tibet,deep crustal partial melting constantly accumulated beneath the dome,and therefore the magmatic diapirism resulted in the formation of the Cuonadong *** addition,the MT results also indicate that the development of the Cuonadong dome provides abundant mineralizing fluids and the space for migration of metallogenic fluids for(rare-metal)polymetallic mineralization.

Techniques for Surveying Urban Active Faults by Seismic Methods

Using the seismic method to detect active faults directly below cities is an irreplaceable prospecting technique. The seismic method can precisely determine the fault position. Seismic method itself can hardly determine the geological age of fault. However, by considering in connection with the borehole data and the standard geological cross-section of the surveyed area, the geological age of reflected wave group can be qualitatively (or semi-quantitatively) determined from the seismic depth profile. To determine the upper terminal point of active faults directly below city, it is necessary to use the high-resolution seismic reflection technique. To effectively determine the geometric feature of deep faults, especially to determine the relation between deep and shallow fracture structures, the seismic reflection method is better than the seismic refraction method.

Mineralogical and Physical Characteristics of White Sandstone of Abu Rodeiyim Quarry(Sinai),and its Possible Industrial Utilization

Mineralogical, geochemical, and textural analyses of the white sandstones （Abu Thora Fm.） of Carboniferous in the Abu Rodeiyim region show that they are fluviomarine, well-sorted, highpurity, and high-grade silica SiO2 （average 99.56%）. The results indicate that by simple treatment, the white sandstones can reach a high degree of purity, suitable for different industrial purposes （e.g. manufacture of silicon photovoltaic, crystal, and TV screens, art, and domestic and optical glass）.

Using geochemical tracing system to identify new types of gas sources in marine strata of the Hotan River Gas Field in the Tarim Basin

There are natural gas sources of various modes of occurrence in superimposed basins. Besides the conventional kerogen and ancient oil reservoir, dispersed soluble organic matter (DSOM) is an important direct gas source. Because of its wide distribution, great potential to generate gas and proneness to crack under catalysis, DSOM is an important type of gas source in the highly evolved zones in marine strata. Through the geological and geochemical analysis that reflects the long-period evolvement and multiple gas accumulation processes in marine strata, and using the ternary geochemical tracing system, here we study the origin and accumulation of the natural gas in the Hotan River Gas Field in the Tarim Basin. The natural gas is produced from highly evolved and cracked DSOM in the Hotan River Gas Field, and it is accumulated after migrating for a long distance along faults. This conclusion is of great significance to the further expansion of the oil and gas exploration fields in the Tarim Basin.

1. Introduction The fractal nature of crustal seismic velocity heterogeneity makes the interpretation of deep seismic reflection data difficult by conventional methods developed in shallow sedimentary. Statistical approaches were thought to be a valuable powerful tool for interpretation. Crustal exposures and deep borehole well log indicate that some stochastic models could be used to describe the heterogeneity of crustal rocks (Goff and Levander 1996, Holliger and Levander 1992, Leary 1991).

Post-collisional potassic and ultrapotassic volcanic rocks are widely distributed across the Tibetan Plateau, and they are considered to be indicators of evolving mantle dynamics. A suite of potassic basalts younger than 55 Ma from the Saga area of western Tibet has been reported. The geochemical characteristics of these rocks distinguish themselves from other potassicltrapotassic volcanic rocks in Tibet, such as positive Nb, Ta, and Ti anomalies and strong enrichment in large ion lithophile elements (LILE), suggesting that phlogopite, rutile and/or sphene might have originated from the mantle source. These basalts are also characterized by a very wide range of 87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.709 043-0.711 915) and relatively high 143Nd/,44Nd ratios (0.512 426-0.512 470,εNd=-4.60 to -3.87). We propose a petrogenetic model for the Saga potassic rocks in which the lithospheric mantle source was infiltrated by a volatilerich (H2O, CO2) and low-degree silicate melt derived from the asthenosphere in the Middle to Late Proterozoic. After the initial Indo-Asian collision, Neo-Tethyan slab breakoff resulted in the partial melting of the previously metasomatized lithospheric mantle and the formation of the Saga potassic rocks. It is likely that the eruption of these volcanic rocks lasted at least 10 Ma.

Forecasting of water yield of deep-buried iron mine in Yanzhou, Shandong

This paper compares analytical and numerical methods by taking the forecasting of water yield of deep-buried iron mine in Yanzhou, Shandong as an example. Regarding the analytical method, the equation of infinite and bilateral water inflow boundary is used to forecast the water yield, and in the case of numerical simulation, we employed the GMS software to establish a model and further to forecast the water yield. On the one hand, through applying the analytical method, the maximum water yield of mine 1 500 m deep below the surface was calculated to be 13 645.17 m3/d; on the other hand, through adopting the numerical method, we obtained the predicted result of 3 816.16 m3/d. Meanwhile, by using the boundary generalization in the above-mentioned two methods, and through a comparative analysis of the actual hydro-geological conditions in this deep-buried mine, which also concerns the advantages and disadvantages of the two methods respectively, this paper draws the conclusion that the analytical method is only applicable in ideal conditions, but numerical method is eligible to be used in complex hydro-geological conditions. Therefore, it is more applicable to employ the numerical method to forecast water yield of deep-buried iron mine in Yanzhou, Shandong.

Effective source rock selection and oil–source correlation in the Western Slope of the northern Songliao Basin,China

Geochronology, Geochemistry, and Hf Isotopic Compositions of Monzogranites and Mafic-Ultramafic Complexes in the Maxingdawannan Area, Eastern Kunlun Orogen, Western China: Implications for Magma Sources, Geodynamic Setting, and Petrogenesis

This paper presents zircon U-Pb-Hf isotopic compositions and whole-rock geochemical data for monzogranites and mafic-ultramafic complexes of the Maxingdawannan area in the western end of the east Kunlun orogenic belt, western China. The data are used to determine the ages, petrogenesis, magma sources, and geodynamic setting of the studied rocks. U-Pb zircon dating indicates that monzogranites and gabbros of the complexes were emplaced at 399 and 397 Ma, respectively. The monzogranites are shoshonitic, with high SiO2, Al2 O3 and total-alkali contents, and low TFeO, MgO, TiO2 and P2 O5 contents. The mafic-ultramafic complexes are characterized by low Si O2 contents. The monzogranites display enrichment in light rare-earth elements(LREE) and large-ion lithophile elements(LILE), depletion in heavy REEs(HREE) and high-field-strength elements(HFSE), and negative Eu anomalies(Eu/Eu*=0.36–0.48). The mafic-ultramafic complexes are also enriched in LREEs and LILEs, and depleted in HREEs and HFSEs, with weak Eu anomalies(Eu/Eu*=0.84–1.16). Zircon εHf(t) values for the monzogranites and mafic-ultramafic complexes range from-6.68 to 1.11 and-1.81 to 6.29, with zircon model ages of 1 812–1 319 Ma(TDM2) and 1 087–769 Ma(TDM1), respectively. Hf isotopic data indicate that primary magmas of the monzogranites are originated from partial melting of ancient lower crust during the Paleo-Mesoproterozoic, with a juvenile-crust component. Primitive magmas of the mafic-ultramafic complexes are likely originated from a depleted-mantle source modified by slab-derived fluids and contaminated by crustal components. geochemical data and the geological setting indicate that Devonian intrusions in the Maxingdawannan area are related to northward subduction of the ProtoTethys oceanic lithosphere.
