Evaluation of Landsat 8 image pansharpening in estimating soil organic matter using multiple linear regression and artificial neural networks

In agricultural systems,the regular monitoring of Soil Organic Matter(SOM)dynamics is *** task is costly and time-consuming when using the conventional method,especially in a very fragmented area and with intensive agricultural activity,such as the area of Sidi *** study area is located in the Doukkala irrigated perimeter in *** data can provide an alternative and fill this gap at a low *** to predict SOM from a satellite image,whether linear or nonlinear,have shown considerable *** study aims to compare SOM prediction using Multiple Linear Regression(MLR)and Artificial Neural Networks(ANN).A total of 368 points were collected at a depth of 0-30 cm and analyzed in the *** image at 15 m resolution(MSPAN)was produced from a 30 m resolution(MS)Landsat-8 image using image pansharpening processing and panchromatic band(15 m).The results obtained show that the MLR models predicted the SOM with(training/validation)R^(2)values of 0.62/0.63 and 0.64/0.65 and RMSE values of 0.23/0.22 and 0.22/0.21 for the MS and MSPAN images,*** contrast,the ANN models predicted SOM with R2 values of 0.65/0.66 and 0.69/0.71 and RMSE values of 0.22/0.10 and 0.21/0.18 for the MS and MSPAN images,*** pansharpening improved the prediction accuracy by 2.60%and 4.30%and reduced the estimation error by 0.80%and 1.30%for the MLR and ANN models,respectively.

Mycoplasma capricolum ***(Mcc)is an important etiological agent of contagious agalactia(CA).CA affects small ruminants and is characterized by inducing mastitis,arthritis,kerato-conjunctivitis and respiratory *** aim of this study was to isolate and characterize Mcc from Moroccan goats with contagious agalactia.A total of 300 Alpine goats were *** analysis,molecular identification,and isolation of Mcc were realized from suspected *** experimental study was conducted for isolated Mcc to determine their ***,clinical observation showed that respiratory symptoms were predominant in young animals,and other symptoms,such as mastitis,keratoconjunctivitis and lameness,were more frequently detected in adult *** the 80 tested blood samples,28 sera were seropositive for Mcc *** was identified by polymerase chain reaction(PCR)in milk,lung tissue and synovial liquid *** isolation of Mcc was successful through bacterial culture from lung *** gene sequence of this strain revealed 98.1%similarity with the reference strain(ATCC 27343),with 11 missense *** infection resulted in severe and generalized CA disease in sheep and goats,confirming the high pathogenicity of the Moroccan Mcc isolate.

Ticks induce huge production and economic losses in the livestock industry and create serious environmental, animal and human health problems. The study was carried out to characterize tick species and determine the prevalence of tick infestation and tick-borne diseases in cattle in Cameroon. Tick and blood samples were collected from a total of 742 animals and analyzed to determine the type of tick and haemoparasites using standard procedures. Overall, four tick species namely Amblyomma variegatum (75.09%), Rhipicephalus microplus (19.43%), Rhipicephalus decoloratus (0.88%) and Hyalomma marginatum (0.18%) and six blood disease agents including Anapalasma marginale (11.29%), Ehrlichia ruminantium (3.52%), Babesia bovis (1.32%), Babesia major (0.44%), Anaplasma phagocytophilum (0.29%) and Dermatophilus congolensis (3.37%). Various co-infections were recorded and the predominant associations were Amblyomma variegatum-Rhipicephalus microplus (4.06%) and Amblyomma variegatum-Hyalomma marginatum (0.36%);Anaplasma-Ehrlichia (12%), Anaplasma-Dematophylus (8%), Babesia-Anaplasma-Ehrlichia (14%) and Babesia-Anaplasma-Ehrlichia-Dermato-phylus (5%). Breed, sex, age and locality significantly influenced the rate of tick infestation while locality, breed and age significantly influenced the detection of blood disease agents in the study.

Soil erodibility is a key factor in assessing soil loss *** fact,soil loss is the most occurring land degradation form in Morocco,affecting rural and urban vulnerable *** work deals with large scale mapping of soil erodibility using three mapping approaches:(i)the CORINE approach developed for Europe by the JRC;(ii)the UNEP/FAO approach developed within the frame of the United Nations Environmental Program for the Mediterranean area;(iii)the Universal Soil Loss Equation(USLE)K *** study zone is the province of Tangiers,North-West of *** each approach,we mapped and analyzed different erodibility factors in terms of parent material,topography and soil *** thematic maps were then integrated using a Geographic Information System to elaborate a soil erodibility map for each of the three ***,the validity of each approach was checked in the field,focusing on highly eroded areas,by confronting the estimated soil erodibility and the erosion state as observed in the *** used three statistical indicators for validation:overall accuracy,weighted Kappa factor and omission/commission *** found that the UNEP/FAO approach,based principally on lithofacies and topography as mapping inputs,is the most adapted for the case of our study zone,followed by the CORINE *** USLE K factor underestimated the soil erodibility,especially for highly eroded areas.

Background:In Morocco,cutaneous leishmaniasis(CL)is usually known to be a slowly healing localized skin disease,but in some cases,it can lead to mutilating *** outbreak of CL due to Leishmania major in the Errachidia province in southeastern Morocco between 2008 and 2010 left many adolescents with permanent scar tissue on the face or other exposed body *** studied the psychosocial impact of CL on these young ***:In 2015 we conducted a cross-sectional survey among high-school students living in boarding schools in two CL-endemic areas of Errachidia:Rissani and Tinejdad.A self-administered questionnaire elicited responses about general knowledge of CL and related *** open-ended question focused on the possible psychosocial effects associated with these *** quantitative data were analyzed with Epi Info^(TM)and the text data with NVivo ***:Almost 20%of 448 respondents reported they had experienced a CL lesion and 87%said it could possibly or definitely lead to psychological *** text analysis showed that girls more often than boys expanded on the negative psychological effects of *** students considered CL as“dangerous”,“serious”,and“deathly”,and said it sometimes led to extreme suicidal ***:The burden of CL in this age group is not *** indelible CL scars lead to self-stigma and social stigma,and the emergence of negative psychological effects in this age *** some students accepted their CL scars and related suffering as their“destiny”,others were eagerly demanding protective measures against CL and treatment for the scars.

Characterization of the Biodegradation of Kasbahs of the Gharb Region (Mehdia and Kenitra Kasbahs, Morocco)

With the aim of contributing to the solutions linked to the problems of the preventive preservation and the restoration of the Kasbah of Mehdia or the Kasbah of Moulay El hassan, a study of the flora populating the facades of these historical monuments was realized and showed the presence of a varied and diverse vegetation populating these buildings left to the ravages of time. The inventory of this flora showed the existence of 70 species among which 48were exclusively detected at the Kasbah of Mehdia, 11 other species were only discovered at the Kasbah of Kenitra and 11 vegetal species were inventoried at both Kasbahs. These plant species are divided into 28 families. Four families clearly dominate the flora inventoried at both Kasbahs of the Gharb region. These are the Asteraceae (15.7%),Poaceae (10%), Apiaceae (8.6%) and Scrophulariaceae (5.7%). These families alone account for 41.4% of the specific size of the flora of the studied sites. The most dominant vegetal type is the therophytes with 61.4% of the total specific size, followed by hemicryptophytes with 17.1%. Located at the top or the base of walls, these plants, fitting into joints or cracks, have a chemical action on the stones by acids which they release and also have a mechanical action on the stones by the growth of roots inside cracks. This vegetation remains one of the most important biological factors of the degradation of historical monuments.

Phytoremediation is a green emerging technology used to remove pollutants from environment components. Mechanisms used to remediate soils contaminated by heavy metal are: phytoextraction, phytostabilisation, phytovolatilization and rhizofiltration. The two first mechanisms are the most reliable. Many factors influence the choice of the suitable phytoremediation strategy for soil decontamination. It depends on soil properties, heavy metal levels and characteristics, plant species and climatic conditions. The present review discusses factors affecting heavy metals uptake by plant species, the different phytoremediation strategies of heavy metal contaminated soils and the advantages and disadvantages of phytoremediation and each of its mechanisms.

Predicting Cork Oak Suitability in Maâmora Forest Using Random Forest Algorithm

Maamora is considered the most important cork-oak forest in the world with regard to surface. Therefore, anthropic pressure, including cork harvesting, grazing and soft acorn picking up by local communities, has harmful consequences on forest regeneration and the forest become older exceeding harvesting age. Thus, its sustainability depends on the managers’ ability to succeed cork oak plantations. This work presents an assessment approach to evaluate Quercus suber suitability to its plantation which is based on a random forest algorithm (RF). In fact, this suitability has been assessed through analyzing management data related to previous plantation success rates (SR). Then a relationship between SR and a set of environmental and social factors has been investigated using the RF. Application of the fitted model to continuous maps of all involved factors enabled establishment of suitability maps which would help managers to make more rational decisions in terms of cork oak regeneration, ensuring Maamora forest sustainability.

Abandoned Quarries in the Akreuch Area (Western Morocco): Inventory of Flora for a Rehabilitation Strategy

Quarrying is an activity contributing to the vitality of the Moroccan economy. However, most of these quarries were abandoned at the end of extraction and became dump and later a place of uncontrolled landfills. The number of restored or rehabilitated quarries is limited and this threatens several aspects of the environment, especially, the quality of surface and ground water, landscape, forests, etc. This also gives rise to increased erosion risk. The study identifies plant species covering 10 abandoned quarries in the region of Rabat, especially the Bouregreg River and its affluent Akreuch in order to define a strategy for their restoration or rehabilitation. Field surveys were led to locate and map 10 abandoned quarries and to sample plant species. Herbaria were established and species were identified and classified. The results of the study distinguished 46 different plant species spread over 45 genera and 27 botanical families. The most dominant family in the quarries visited is Asteraceae. These results will allow us to study the vegetation dynamics in these abandoned lands and serve as a basis, in the selection of appropriate species in eventual restoration or rehabilitation projects.
