Corporate governance and audit fees:Evidence from companies listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange

This study uses data from companies listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange to investigate the relationship between corporate governance and audit fees. Full sample results reveal a significant negative relationship between corporate governance and audit fees, and subsample results further show that corporate governance's influence on audit fees is affected by corporate growth. The negative relationship between corporate governance and audit fees is economically and statistically significant in sample companies that grew moderately during the sample period, and mixed or insignificant in companies that experienced overly fast or negative growth.

Identifying and monitoring the spatiotemporal patterns of potentially contaminated land(PCL) in China is a key concern of ecological governance. However, the dynamics of PCL’s expansion remain unclear nationwide. Integrating high-resolution remote sensing images, a land-use/cover change database, crawler data from websites, and other multisource data, we produced a new dataset of China’s PCL in 1990, 2000, 2010, and 2020 using data fusion technology. Then we analyzed the spatiotemporal patterns of China’s PCL from 1990 to 2020. Our study shows that the acquired vector dataset of China’s PCL is of high quality and reliability, with an overall accuracy of 93.21%. The area of China’s PCL has kept growing for the past 30 years, and the growth rate was especially rapid during2000–2010, 2.32 and 6.13 times as rapid as that during 1990–2000 and 2010–2020, respectively. PCL has also been trending toward higher aggregation over markedly enlarged areas and has transferred progressively from north and southeast of China to northwest and southwest of China and Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The patterns of China’s PCL have been driven by the joint factors of policies, mineral resources, economy, and others, among which policies and the economy have contributed more prominently to the long-term *** study promotes the access to high-quality spatial data of PCL to facilitate environmental governance of mine wastes, pollution and land management.

In a changing transition economy, Chinese government regulations that adopt the relatively simple bright line rule formula are enforceable in practice. Taking the early reform-oriented policies of the China Securities Regulatory Commission(CSRC) as an example, we find that the CSRC did not consider local enthusiasm for reform when allocating IPO resources because of the high enforcement costs involved. We also find that CSRC listed company regulations were enforced due to the lower costs involved in verifying regulatory violations, and that listed companies that completed the reform process were given priority in public refinancing. We present empirical evidence supporting the theoretical basis for the hypotheses outlined above. We also conclude that companies that completed the reform process in 2005 were of significantly higher quality and that the SEO regulation did not affect stock market efficiency. These findings enhance our understanding of the efficiency of government regulation in a transition economy.

Microbial growth causes lamb spoilage. This study explored the spoilage ability of Latilactobacillus sakei (L. sakei)， Serratia proteamaculans (S. proteamaculans) and Hafnia proteus (H. proteus) in vacuum-packed raw lamb， including growth ability， degradation of protein and lipid， and change of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) profile， meanwhile screened the key VOCs produced by the targeted strains with meat background excluding， finally confirmed the volatile spoilage marker of vacuum-packaged lamb by comparing with our previous work. The results showed that L. sakei， S. proteamaculans and H. proteus had excellent growth ability. L. sakei inoculated group significantly reduced the pH value， showed higher TCA-soluble peptides content， and excellently degraded sarcoplasmic and myofibrillar proteins. About free amino acids， L. sakei significantly degraded serine， arginine and aspartic acid， while S. proteamaculans and H. proteus significantly degraded serine and lysine. In addition， L. sakei had a strongest effect on promoting free fatty acids production， followed by S. proteamaculans and finally H. proteus. Evaluating from various indicators， the co-culture of the three strains did not have any effect. The key volatiles produced by L. sakei were 1-hexanol， acetic acid and hexanoic aicd， S. proteamaculans were 1-hexanol and acetoin， and H. proteus was 1-hexanol， acetic acid and acetoin. In the end， 1-hexanol， hexanoic acid and acetoin were proven to be spoilage markers for vacuum-packaged and chilled lamb. This study can provide fundamental information for inhibiting and rapid identification of spoilage in vacuum-packaged lamb.

Water resources are an indispensable and valuable resource for human survival and *** quality predicting plays an important role in the protection and development of water *** is difficult to predictwater quality due to its random and trend ***,amethod of predicting water quality which combines Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average(ARIMA)and clusteringmodelwas proposed in this *** taking thewater qualitymonitoring data of a certain river basin as a sample,thewater quality Total Phosphorus(TP)index was selected as the prediction ***,the sample data was cleaned,stationary analyzed,and white noise ***,the appropriate parameters were selected according to the Bayesian Information Criterion(BIC)principle,and the trend component characteristics were obtained by using ARIMA to conduct water quality ***,the relationship between the precipitation and the TP index in themonitoring water field was analyzed by the K-means clusteringmethod,and the random incremental characteristics of precipitation on water quality changes were ***,by combining with the trend component characteristics and the random incremental characteristics,the water quality prediction results were *** with the ARIMA water quality prediction method,experiments showed that the proposed method has higher accuracy,and its Mean Absolute Error(MAE),Mean Square Error(MSE),and Mean Absolute Percentage Error(MAPE)were respectively reduced by 44.6%,56.8%,and 45.8%.
