PBQ[1-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-(pyridin-3-yl)urea],an enormous potent molluscicide,showed excellent Pomacea canaliculata(***)control activity and low toxicity for other aquatic organisms,but its snail-killing mechanisms are still not fully *** employed an optical method to elucidate PBQ action via a novel fluorescent viscosity probe,*** the viscosity in the test solutions increased,compared with that in pure ethanol,a 54-fold fluorescence intensity enhancement of NCV was observed in 310 cP of 90%***,NCV successfully exhibited a selective fluorescence response towards monensin-induced cellular viscosity changes in HepG2 *** liver,stomach,and foot plantar of the tested snails were frozen and sectioned for fluorescent imaging experiments after the treatment with different PBQ concentrations over various times.A significant fluorescent increase in the snail's liver was observed upon exposure to 0.75 mg/L PBQ for 72 h,which highlighted an increase in *** and eosin(HE)staining further supported PBQ-induced liver damage with a viscosity increase in *** study provides a new rapid optical visualization method to study the killing mechanisms of PBQ and may help discover new chemicals that control snail populations.

Avian leukosis is an important tumorigenic disease caused by the avian leukosis virus(ALV) in poultry. ALVs belong to the retroviral family and are classified into 11 subgroups(ALV-A to ALV-K). Among them, ALV-J was first introduced into China in 1999, spreading widely and evolving from infecting meat-type chickens to layer chickens and Chinese local chickens. ALV-J typically induces myeloid leukosis in infected chickens, but also induces a high proportion of hemangiomas in infected layer chickens, posing a serious threat to poultry breeds in China. As a retrovirus, the genome of ALV-J has undergone significant mutations, which may be related to the expansion of the infection host range and increased pathogenicity of ALV-J. Over the last two decades, the introduction and spread of ALV-J in China have caused substantial losses to the poultry industry. Specialized detection assays have been developed to combat ALV-J infections in China. Additionally, ongoing research aims to employ gene-editing technology as a novel antiviral strategy to control the spread of ALV infections. This review highlights the importance of understanding the impact of ALV-J on the Chinese poultry industry and emphasizes the need for ongoing research and innovation to safeguard poultry health and promote sustainable poultry farming practices in China.

Minks are highly susceptible to SARS-CoV-2, and have transmitted SARS-CoV-2 to humans. Oral immunization is one of the most promising strategies to prevent SARS-CoV-2 infection and transmission in minks. Here, we generated 3 recombinant rabies viruses(RABV), rERAG333E/S6P, rERAG333E/DS6P and rERAG333E/BA2S6P,expressing the prefusion-stabilized SARS-CoV-2 spike protein of wild-type(S6P), δ(DS6P) or BA.2(BA2S6P)strain based on an oral rabies vaccine candidate(rERAG333E). Oral or inactivated immunization of the 3 RABVs monovalent or trivalent were safe, and induced robust RABV neutralizing antibody and cross-antibody responses against the three SARS-CoV-2 in mice and minks. The challenge tests showed that 2 doses of rERAG333E-S6P as an oral or inactivated vaccine completely protected mice against mouse-adapted SARS-CoV-2 infection in the upper and lower respiratory tracts, and largely prevented viral replication and lung damage caused by wild-type SARS-CoV-2infection in minks. Notably, we also confirmed that 2 doses of rERAG333E-S6P as an oral or inactivated vaccine can largely protect minks against wild-type SARS-CoV-2 transmission via respiratory droplets. Our findings suggest that rERAG333E-based COVID-19 vaccines appear to be suitable oral candidates to protect minks from SARS-CoV-2infection and transmission, and may serve as inactivated vaccines for further investigation in humans.

Epstein-Barr virus(EBV), the first identified human tumor virus, is implicated in various human malignancies, infectious mononucleosis,and more recently, multiple sclerosis. Prophylactic vaccines have the potential to effectively prevent EBV infection. Glycoprotein B(gB)serves as the fusogen and plays a pivotal role in the virus entry process, making it a critical target for EBV vaccine development. Surface membrane proteins of enveloped viruses serve as native conformational antigens, making them susceptible to immune recognition. Utilizing lipid membrane-bound viral antigens is a promising strategy for effective vaccine presentation in this context. In this study, we employed a truncated design for gB proteins, observing that these truncated gB proteins prompted a substantial release of extracellular vesicles(EVs) in insect cells. We verified that EVs exhibited abundant gB proteins, displaying the typical virus particle morphology and extracellular vesicle characteristics. gB EVs demonstrated a more efficient humoral and cellular immune response compared with the gB ectodomain trimer vaccine in mice. Moreover, the antisera induced by the gB EVs vaccine exhibited robust antibody-dependent cytotoxicity. Consequently, gB EVs-based vaccines hold significant potential for preventing EBV infection and offer valuable insights for vaccine design.
