Mannan-decorated STING-activating vaccine carrier for spatial coordinative stimulating antigen-specific immune responses

In recent years, the use of nanotechnologies to improve immunotherapy efficiency has attracted increasing interest in preventive and therapeutic cancer vaccine design. However, current nanocarriers are restricted by difficulties in the systematic spatial coordinative transport of antigens, which greatly hampers the immune response efficacy of nanovaccines. Herein, we designed a mannan-decorated stimulator of the interferon genes (STING)-activating vaccine carrier for spatial coordinative stimulation of antigen-specific immune responses and elicitation of robust antitumor immunity. Mannan-decoration as the shell could significantly enhance the lymph node draining ability of the nanovaccines, especially in CD8+ dendritic cells (DCs). Azole molecule end-capped polylactic acid-polyethylenimine (PLA-PEI-4BImi) with innate stimulating activity was applied as the inner core for coordinating antigen-presenting cell activation and antigen cross-presentation. In the in vivo therapy study, single usage of this nanovaccine could achieve a 93% tumor suppression rate in the B16-OVA tumor model, which is superior to the commercialized aluminum adjuvant. This study demonstrates that a rational design of vaccine carriers for solving spatial transmission issues could greatly improve cancer vaccine efficiencies. © 2023

Given the increasing demand for distributed electricity, there is a burning desire to harvest electricity from renewable sources using environmentally friendly methods. Thermoelectric (TE) materials can meet this requirement not only because of their ability to convert heat directly into electricity, enabling energy harvesting from waste heat and natural heat resources, but also because more than 60%of the energy is lost as waste heat [1]. The discovery of the TE effect dates back to the 1820s when T. M. Seebeck observed electricity generation at the junction of two conductors with different temperatures. Additionally, when a voltage is applied to TE materials, they can create a temperature difference to enable solid-state cooling (known as the Peltier effect).Therefore, the TE effect promises both sustainable energy solutions and temperature control technologies. Over the past two decades,the urgent demand for powering ubiquitous Internet of Things devices has sparked significant interest in flexible thermoelectrics(F-TEs), which raises an intriguing question:Is the intrinsically flexible polymer an important candidate for state-of-the-art F-TEs applications?

Materials are generally categorized as three main types of metal,non-metal and organic *** them,metal and organic polymers show opposite advantages and *** instance,a metal exhibits both high mechanical strength and electrical conductivity while both low flexibility and solution processibility;an organic polymer exhibits both high flexibility and solution processibility but with both low mechanical strength and electrical conductivity[1–4].Although a lot of efforts are made to synthesize metal/polymer composite materials to partly maintain advantages of each component[5–7],people have never thought that it is possible to achieve the advantages of both metal and polymer by synthesizing novel material with a single component.

Mechanism Study on Char Formation of Zinc Acetylacetonate on ABS Resin

The mechanism of char formation effect of zinc acetylacetonate（Zn（acac）2） on acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer（ABS） was studied. Thermal gravimetric analysis（TGA） was used to study the mass loss and char yield of ABS composites. In situ temperature-dependent Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy（FTIR） was used to characterize the chemical change during thermal decomposition. Roman spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy（SEM） were applied to characterize the structure and morphology of the char after combustion. Results showed that the presence of Zn（acac）2 not only slowed down thermal decomposition of the ABS composites, but also increased the charred residue. A more compact and denser char layer with higher graphitization degree was formed for ABS composites with Zn（acac）2. To study the char formation mechanism of Zn（acac）2 on ABS, thermal decomposition was analyzed for the composites of Zn（acac）2 with PB, PS and SAN, respectively. Also, the chemical structure change was investigated for Zn（acac）2 during thermal decomposition. Based on these results, it was deduced that the increase of char yield of ABS composites was probably attributed to the interaction between the units of acrylonitrile in ABS and zinc acetate, produced during the thermal decomposition of Zn（acac）2. A proposed mechanism for crosslinking and the subsequent char formation was presented.

Effects of photo-oxidation and transition metals on the formation of reactive oxygen species from aromatic compounds using spectroscopic method

Particulate matter(PM)can cause adverse health effects by overproducing reactive oxygen species(ROS).Although the ability of PM to induce ROS generation depends on its composi-tion and environmental *** study explores how photo-oxidation affects ROS gen-eration from aromatic compounds(ACs,including catechol(CAT),phthalic acid(PA),and 4,4-oxydibenzoic acid(4,4-OBA))and their mixtures with transition metals(TMs,includ-ing Fe(II),Mn(II),and Cu(II))using Fourier-transform infrared(FTIR)and Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy(UV-Vis).Results showed that photo-oxidation facilitated ROS generation from ***-Fe(II)/Cu(II)showed synergistic effects,but 4,4-OBA-Fe(II)/Cu(II)showed antag-onistic ***-Mn(II)and PA-Fe(II)/Cu(II)exhibited synergistic effects first and then showed antagonistic *** different interactions were due to complexation between ACs and *** photo-oxidized ACs-TMs significantly enhanced ROS generation com-pared with *** study suggested the photo-oxidation mechanism involved that the transfer ofπ-electrons from the ground to an excited state in benzene rings and func-tional groups,leading to the breakage and formation of chemical bonds or easierπ-electron transfer from ACs to *** former could generate ROS directly or produce polymers that promoted ROS generation,while the latter promoted ROS generation by transferringπ-electrons to dissolved oxygen *** study revealed that both interactions among components and photo-oxidation significantly influenced ROS *** studies should integrate broader atmospheric factors and PM components to fully assess oxidative potential and health impacts.

Effects of substitution and terminal groups for liquid-crystallinity enhanced luminescence of disubstituted polyacetylenes carrying chromophoric terphenyl pendants

Liquid-crystalline and light-emitting poly(2-alkyne)s containing terphenyl cores with hexamethyleneoxy spacers,and cyano or n-propoxy tails -[CH3C=C(CH2)6O-terphenyl-R]n-,where R=CN,CH3PA6CN,R=OCH2CH2CH3,CH3PA6OPr,were *** effects of the substitution and terminal groups on the properties,especially the mesomorphic and optical properties of the polymers,were *** disubstituted acetylene monomers (CH3A6CN,CH3A6OPr) were pre- pared through multistep reaction routes and were polymerized by WCl6-Ph4Sn in good yields (up to 82%).All the monomers and CH3PA6CN exhibited the enantiotropic SmA phase with a monolayer arrangement at elevated temperatures,whereas CH3PA6OPr formed a bilayer SmAd packing *** excitation at 330 nm,strong UV and blue emission peaks at 362 and 411 nm were observed in CH3PA6OPr and CH3PA6CN,*** luminescent properties of CH3PA6CN and CH3PA6OPr have been improved by introducing the methyl substituted group,and the quantum yield of the polymer with cyano tail CH3PA6CN (φ= 74%) was found to be higher than that of CH3PA6OPr (φ= 60%).Compared to polyacety- lene parents,both CH3PA6OPr and CH3PA6CN showed a narrower energy *** demonstrated that the electrical con- ductivities of polyacetylenes could be enhanced by attaching appropriate pendants to the conjugated polyene backbones.

Synthesis and Phase Behavior of Poly(1-alkyne) with Liquid Crystalline-induced Luminescence Enhancement

Poly（1-alkyne） with octoxy spacer —{[HC=C（CH2）8O—terphenyl—CN]}n—（PA8CN） and terphenyl liquid crystalline pendant was synthesized,and the effects of structure on the optical properties,especially the liquid crystallinity behavior of the polymer and monomer were *** monomer was prepared in high yields（92.30%） by coupling and etherification reactions and successfully polymerized in the presence of Rh catalyst and Et3N cocatalyst in high yields with trans-rich（86.27%） stereoregular *** to the monomer showing mixed monolayer structure,its corresponding polymer PA8CN formed homogeneous monolayer *** photoexcitation,strong blue emission peak of PA8CN appeared at 413 nm[fluorescence quantum yield,ΦF = 68% when excited at 330 nm in tetrahydrofuran（THF） solution].Compared with its solid film photoexcitated at 330 nm at room temperature,the UV light-emitting band of PA8CN solid film from its liquid crystalline with liquid nitrogen quenched rapidly at 236 ℃ was red-shift 10 nm with higher intensity,which may be ascribed to the fact that the effectual conjugation and the order degree of the molecule in the liquid crystalline state of the polymer were enhanced,the energy loss caused by the thermal vibration was decreased,thus resulting in the observed hyperchromic effect.

High-energy-density lithium(Li)–air cells have been considered a promising energy-storage system,but the liquid electrolyte-related safety and side-reaction problems seriously hinder their *** address these above issues,solid-state Li–air batteries have been widely ***,many commonly-used solid electrolytes generally face huge interface impedance inLi–air cells and also showpoor stability towards ambient air/Li ***,we fabricate a differentiating surface-regulated ceramic-based composite electrolyte(DSCCE)by constructing disparately LiI-containing polymethyl methacrylate(PMMA)coating and Poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene)(PVDF-HFP)layer on both sides of Li_(1.5)Al_(0.5)Ge_(1.5)(PO_(4))_(3)(LAGP).The cathode-friendly LiI/PMMA layer displays excellent stability towards superoxide intermediates and also greatly reduces the decomposition voltage of discharge products in Li–air ***,the anode-friendly PVDF-HFP coating shows low-resistance properties towards ***,Li dendrite/passivation derived from liquid electrolyte-induced side reactions and air/I-attacking can be obviously suppressed by the uniformand compact composite *** a result,the DSCCE-based Li–air batteries possess high capacity/low voltage polarization(11,836mAh g^(-1)/1.45Vunder 500mAg^(-1)),good rate performance(capacity ratio under 1000mAg^(-1)/250mAg^(-1) is 68.2%)and longterm stable cell operation(~300 cycles at 750 mA g^(-1) with 750 mAh g^(-1))in ambient air.

Multifunctional Nacre‑Like Nanocomposite Papers for Electromagnetic Interference Shielding via Heterocyclic Aramid/MXene Template‑Assisted In‑Situ Polypyrrole Assembly

Robust, ultra-flexible, and multifunctional MXene-basedelectromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding nanocomposite filmsexhibit enormous potential for applications in artificial intelligence,wireless telecommunication, and portable/wearable electronic *** this work, a nacre-inspired multifunctional heterocyclic aramid(HA)/MXene@polypyrrole (PPy) (HMP) nanocomposite paper withlarge-scale, high strength, super toughness, and excellent tolerance tocomplex conditions is fabricated through the strategy of HA/MXenehydrogel template-assisted in-situ assembly of PPy. Benefiting from the"brick-and-mortar" layered structure and the strong hydrogen-bondinginteractions among MXene, HA, and PPy, the paper exhibits remarkable mechanical performances, including high tensile strength (309.7 MPa),outstanding toughness (57.6 MJ m−3), exceptional foldability, and structural stability against ultrasonication. By using the template effect ofHA/MXene to guide the assembly of conductive polymers, the synthesized paper obtains excellent electronic conductivity. More importantly,the highly continuous conductive path enables the nanocomposite paper to achieve a splendid EMI shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) of 54.1 dBat an ultra-thin thickness (25.4 μm) and a high specific EMI SE of 17,204.7 dB cm2g−1. In addition, the papers also have excellent applicationsin electromagnetic protection, electro-/photothermal de-icing, thermal therapy, and fire safety. These findings broaden the ideas for developinghigh-performance and multifunctional MXene-based films with enormous application potential in EMI shielding and thermal management.
