Resilient and Inclusive Prosperity within Planetary Boundaries

The current model of economic growth generated unprecedented increases in human wealth and prosperity during the 19th and 2Oth centuries. The main mechanisms have been the rapid pace of technological and social innovation, human capital accumulation, and the conversion of resources and natural capital into more valuable forms of produced capital. However, there is evidence emerging that this model may be approaching environmental limits and planetary boundaries, and that the conversion of natural capital needs to slow down rapidly and then be reversed Some commentators have asserted that in order for this to occur, we will need to stop growing altogether and, instead, seek prosperity without growth. Others argue that environmental concerns are low-priority luxuries to be contemplated once global growth has properly returned to levels observed prior to the 2008 financial crisis. A third group argues that there is no trade-off and, instead,, promotes green growth： the （politically appealing） idea is that we can simultaneously grow and address our environmental problems. This paper provides a critical perspective on this debate and suggests that asubstantial researc＇h agenda is required to come to grips with these challenges. One place to start is with the relevant metrics： measures of per-capitawealth, and, eventually, quantitative measures of prosperity, alongside a dashboard of other sustainability indicators. A public andpoliticalfocus on wealth （a stock）, and its annual changes, could realistically complement the current focus on market-based gross output as measured by GDP （a flow）. This could have important policy implications, but deeper changes to governance and business models will be required.

Since the implementation of the reform and opening up policy,rapid growth has been witnessed in the Chinese economy,thanks to the introduced technological progress as well as the institutional advantages of the ***,while this exogenous technological progress promotes economic growth quantitatively,it is,unfortunately,not conducive to the improvement of the quality of the *** imbalances have thus been produced,which hinder the high-quality development of the economy of the ***,by way of the“supply and demand rebalance mechanism,”“resource optimized allocation mechanism,”and“new and old kinetic energy conversion mechanism,”original technological progress can effectively push forward the quality change,efficiency change and dynamic change in the economy,thereby promoting the innovation,coordination,greenness and openness as well as the shared development of the ***,the current technological transformation in China needs to change from the second stagethe stage of transition from the introduced technological progress mode to the original technological progress mode then to the third stage-the stage mainly based on the original technological progress,which is the key to the successful transformation of the Chinese economy from the high-speed growth phase to the high-quality development phase.

The Belt and Road Initiative(BRI)offers the prospect of trade integration between Asia and *** it is subject to a number of risks,some of them are similar to those associated with the Trans-Pacific Partnership(TPP).East Asian trade liberalisation in the 1990s involved collaborative autonomy–a cooperative process of outward-looking unilateral liberalisation on a‘most favoured nation’(MFN)basis–rather than the creation of a regional free trade *** contrast,the TPP has sought to create a free trade area,which would have led to trade diversion and have had other unsatisfactory *** combination of BRI with the Regional Cooperation economic Partnership(RCEP)might offer the possibility of outward-looking liberalisation,one which is neither dominated by China nor subject to the trade diversion of the *** combination would bring strength and legitimacy to the BRI.

Optimal design of building openings to reduce the risk of indoor respiratory epidemic infections

The design of indoor airflow environments can significantly reduce the risk of respiratory epidemic infections *** studies have successfully developed theoretical models for calculating the effect of airflow fields on infection ***,up until now,studies have primarily focused on simulating and calculating the distribution of viral infection rates in current building *** to the lack of a direct influence model for the design parameters and infection rate calculation,the present studies lack a quantitative analysis of the design *** paper investigates the building openings design approach in a medium-sized kindergarten in Germany,intending to explore passive-based design solutions to improve the building's ability to prevent the virus'*** calculate the infection rate distribution in space by CFD combined with the Wells-Riley *** then,use the Grasshopper platform to build an optimization model with the design parameters of building openings and infection rate values to discuss the relationship between geometric parameters and infection rate *** results show that the building openings'design parameters in transition spaces significantly affect the indoor infection rate under the condition that the input wind speed at the building openings is *** can see that optimizing building openings significantly reduces the average infection rate in *** infection rate in the area with the largest decrease can be reduced by 18.41%.The distribution of infection rate in space is much more uniform,and the excess area is significantly *** study has implications for future research and practice in designing public buildings under the influence of long-standing and cyclical outbreaks of epidemics.

Planetary health risks in urban agriculture

Urban agriculture is gaining recognition for its potential contributions to environmental resilience and climate change adaptation,providing advantages such as urban greening,reduced heat island effects,and decreased air ***,it indirectly supports communities during weather events and natural disasters,ensuring food security and fostering community ***,concerns about planetary health risks persist in highly urbanized and climate-affected *** electronic databases such as Web of Science and PubMed and adhering to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines,we identified 55 relevant papers to comprehend the planetary health risks associated with urban agriculture,The literature review identified five distinct health risks related to urban agriculture:(1)trace metal risks in urban farms;(2)health risks associated with wastewater irrigation;(3)zoonotic risks;(4)other health risks;and(5)social and economic *** study highlights that urban agriculture,while emphasizing environmental benefits,particularly raises concerns about trace metal bioaccumulation in soil and vegetables,posing health risks for *** well studied risks included wastewater irrigation and backyard livestock *** main limitations in the available literature were in studying infectious diseases and antibiotic resistance associated with urban agriculture.

Assessing the Impact of Gold Mining on the Quality of Water Resources in the Commune of Meguet, Burkina Faso

Despite its often illegal nature, artisanal gold mining in Burkina Faso contributes to the economic and social development of the country. However, the rudimentary techniques used in gold panning have a significant impact on the environment due to inappropriate practices and the use of various chemical substances. This study aims to assess the impact of artisanal gold mining on the quality of water resources in a rural community at Méguet, Burkina Faso. To this end, surface and groundwater samples were collected and analyzed at the BUMIGEB laboratory. Field results show that the waters are slightly alkaline (6.97 < pH < 8.1), weakly mineralized and conductive (124 < EC < 543 μS/cm), with temperatures ranging from 24.6˚C to 31.6˚C. In addition, trace metals (TMEs) analyzed from surface and subsurface waters show very high levels, generally deviating from the levels recommended by WHO guidelines for Burkina Faso. Trace metals contamination of water resources in the commune of Méguet is mainly due to Fe (3.78 - 11.12 mg/kg), Hg (0.03 - 0.29 mg/kg), As (0.01- 6.31 mg/kg) and Pb (0.01 - 3.8 mg/kg). This study can serve as a basis for guiding national environmental policies to protect the water resources of the Méguet mine.

Mechanism of superlubricity of a DLC/Si_(3)N_(4) contact in the presence of castor oil and other green lubricants

To meet the surging needs in energy efficiency and eco-friendly lubricants,a novel superlubricious technology using a vegetable oil and ceramic materials is *** coupling different hydrogen-free amorphous carbon coatings with varying fraction of sp^(2) and sp^(3) hybridized carbon in presence of a commercially available silicon nitride bulk ceramic,castor oil provides superlubricity although the liquid vegetable oil film in the contact is only a few nanometres thick at *** a partial liquid film possibly separating surfaces in contact,local tribochemical reactions between asperities are essential to maintain superlubricity at low *** local pressure activates chemical degradation of castor oil generating graphitic/graphenic-like species on top of asperities,thus helping both the chemical polishing of surface and its chemical passivation by H and OH ***,the formation of the formation of–(CH_(2)–CH_(2))n–noligomers have been evidenced to have a major role in the friction *** simulation unveils that formation of chemical degradation products of castor oil on friction surfaces are favoured by the quantity of sp^(2)-hybridized carbon atoms in the amorphous carbon ***,tuning sp^(2)-carbon content in hydrogen-free amorphous carbon,in particular,on the top layers of the coating,provides an alternative way to control superlubricity achieved with castor oil and other selected green lubricants.

This paper provides a theoretical model to explain the causality between China's energy transition and capital deepening found by the empirical *** prove that in the equilibrium,China's energy transition is endogenously determined by capital deepening due to the homogeneity of electricity and the monopolistic competition features of China's electricity *** effect,which is the effect of change in relative factor price,will affect energy transition only if the policy intervenes electricity price in terms of the primary sources from which it is *** propose that investment can promote energy transition by stimulating capital deepening which is biased to clean energy *** this regard,our paper provides a new way of thinking for other developing countries to design an effective energy transition policy.
