Objective:The present study investigated antiglycation and antioxidant activities of crude dry extract and saponin fraction of Tribulus *** also developed a method of microencapsulation and evaluated antiglycation and antioxidant activities of crude dry extract and saponin fraction before and after microcapsule ***:Antiglycation activity was determined by relative electrophoretic mobility(REM),free amino groups and inhibition of advanced glycation end-product(AGE)*** activity was determined by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH),ferric ion-reducing antioxidant power(FRAP),nitric oxide(NO)and thiobarbituric acid reactive species(TBARS)*** were prepared using maltodextrin as wall material and freeze-drying as encapsulation *** characterization of microcapsules was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy,and encapsulation efficiency and microcapsule release were determined by total saponins *** and antioxidant assays were performed using crude dry extract and saponin fraction of *** before and after ***:Saponin fraction showed an increase of 32.8%total ***-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis showed the presence of saponins in the obtained *** evaluation by REM demonstrated that samples before and after release presented antiglycation activity similar to bovine serum albumin treated with ***,samples inhibited AGE formation,highlighting treatment with saponin fraction after release(89.89%).Antioxidant tests demonstrated antioxidant activity of the *** dry extract before encapsulation presented the highest activities in DPPH(92.00%)and TBARS(32.49%)*** fraction before encapsulation in FRAP test(499μmol Trolox equivalent per gram of dry sample)and NO test(15.13μmol nitrite formed per gram of extract)presented the highest ***:This study presen

Monitoring the concentration of antibiotics in body fluids is essential to optimizing the therapy and minimizing the risk of bacteria resistance,which can be made with electrochemical sensors tailored with appropriate *** this paper,we report on sensors made with screen-printed electrodes(SPE)coated with fullerene(C60),reduced graphene oxide(rGO)and Nafion(NF)(C60-rGO-NF/SPE)to determine the antibiotic metronidazole(MTZ).Under optimized conditions,the C60-rGO-NF/SPE sensor exhibited a linear response in square wave voltammetry for MTZ concentrations from 2.5×10^(-7) to 34×10^(-6) mol/L,with a detection limit of 2.1×10^(-7) mol/*** sensor was also capable of detecting MTZ in serum and urine,with recovery between 94%and 100%,which are similar to those of the standard chromatographic method(HPLC-UV).Because the C60-rGO-NF/SPE sensor is amenable to mass production and allows for MTZ determination with simple principles of detection,it fulfills the requirements of therapeutic drug monitoring programs.

Reproductive ecology of the seabob shrimp Xiphopenaeus kroyeri(Heller,1862)in a coastal area of Southern Brazil

The predictability of certain environmental factors that affect the life cycle of the seabob shrimp Xiphopenaeus kroyeri(Heller,1862) was evaluated in a study of its reproductive biology in an area adjacent to Babitonga Bay,State of Santa Catarina,Brazil. Monthly sampling was conducted from July 2010 through June 2011 at depths of 5,8,11,14,and 17 m.76 004 individuals were obtained,with a pronounced peak in absolute abundance in austral autumn(34 208),coinciding with the annual closed season from March to May. Grain size composition of the sediment showed the closest relationship to the distribution of individuals(multiple linear regression,P <0.05),related to their burying habit. The observed correlations between the abundance of reproductive males(bearing spermatophores) and females with spent gonads(cross-correlation,P <0.05),and between reproductive males and reproductive females(with a 1-month lag) suggest that the peak of reproductive males preceded the peak offemale ones. This result agrees with the pattern expected for females,which copulate in post-ecdysis(spent gonads). Spawning seemed to take place at greater depths,as evidenced by the concentration of reproductive females in these areas. The reproductive activities observed here confirm that this species follows a tropical/subtropical reproductive pattern,spawning continuously throughout the year,with the highest peaks in spring and autumn. The data indicate that the juvenile recruitment period observed in August-September resulted from the reproductive output noted in April–May. Additionally,the reproductive period recorded in November led to the juvenile peak observed in March–May.

Tomato production is influenced by shoot branching,which is controlled by different *** we produced tomato plants overexpressing the cytokinin-deactivating gene CYTOKININ OXYDASE 2(CKX2).CKX2-overexpressing(CKX2-OE)plants showed an excessive growth of axillary shoots,the opposite phenotype expected for plants with reduced cytokinin content,as evidenced by LC-MS analysis and ARR5-GUS *** TCP transcription factor SlBRC1b was downregulated in the axillary buds of CKX2-OE and its excessive branching was dependent on a functional version of the GRAS-family gene LATERAL SUPPRESSOR(LS).Grafting experiments indicated that increased branching in CKX2-OE plants is unlikely to be mediated by root-derived *** CKX2-OE plants with transgenic antisense plants for the strigolactone biosynthesis gene CAROTENOID CLEAVAGE DIOXYGENASE(CCD7-AS)produced an additive phenotype,indicating independent effects of cytokinin and strigolactones on increased *** the other hand,CKX2-OE plants showed reduced polar auxin transport and their bud outgrowth was reduced when combined with auxin ***,CKX2-OE basal buds did not respond to auxin applied in the decapitated *** results suggest that tomato shoot branching depends on a fine-tuning of different hormonal balances and that perturbations in the auxin status could compensate for the reduced cytokinin levels in CKX2-OE plants.

Varicocele, the most important treatable cause of male infertility, is present in 15% of adult males, 35% of men with primary infertility, and 80% of men with secondary infertility. On the other hand, 80% of these men will not present infertility. Therefore, there is a need to differentiate a varicocele that is exerting a deleterious effect that is treatable from a ＂silent＂ varicocele. Despite the growing evidence of the cellular effects of varicocele, its underlying molecular mechanisms are still eluding. Proteomics has become a promising area to determine the reproductive biology of semen as well as to improve diagnosis of male infertility. This review aims to discuss the state-of-art in seminal plasma proteomics in patients with varicocele to discuss the challenges in undertaking these studies, as well as the future outlook derived from the growing body of evidence on the seminal proteome.

studies have confirmed that bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells （MSCs） can be used for treatment of several nervous system diseases. However, isolation of bone marrow-derived MSCs （BMSCs） is an invasive and painful process and the yield is very low. Therefore, there is a need to search for other alterative stem cell sources. Adipose-derived MSCs （ADSCs） have phenotypic and gene expression profiles similar to those of BMSCs. The production of ADSCs is greater than that of BMSCs, and ADSCs proliferate faster than BMSCs. To compare the effects of venous grafts containing BMSCs or ADSCs on sciatic nerve injury, in this study, rats were randomly divided into four groups： sham （only sciatic nerve exposed）, Matrigel （MG; sciatic nerve injury ＋ intravenous transplantation of MG vehicle）, ADSCs （sciatic nerve injury ＋ intravenous MG containing ADSCs）, and BMSCs （sciatic nerve injury ＋ intravenous MG containing BMSCs） groups. Sciatic functional index was calculated to evaluate the function of injured sciatic nerve. Morphologic characteristics of nerves distal to the lesion were observed by toluidine blue staining. Spinal motor neurons labeled with Fluoro-Gold were quantitatively assessed. Compared with sham-operated rats, sciatic functional index was lower, the density of small-diameter fibers was significantly increased, and the number of motor neurons significantly decreased in rats with sciatic nerve injury. Neither ADSCs nor BMSCs significantly improved the sciatic nerve function of rats with sciatic nerve injury,increased fiber density, fiber diameters, axonal diameters, myelin sheath thickness, and G ratios （axonal diameter/fiber diameter ratios） in the sciatic nerve distal to the lesion site. There was no significant difference in the number of spinal motor neurons among ADSCs, BMSCs and MG groups. These results suggest that neither BMSCs nor ADSCs provide satisfactory results for peripheral nerve repair when using MG as the conductor for engraftment.

Processing of materials in the form of ceramics normally involves several steps including calcination at a relatively low temperature for synthesis of the end-product powder and sintering at a high temperature for *** work we have been developing introduces a novel approach enabling synthesis plus sintering of materials in a single running experiment by using electric fields,ending with dense ceramics that display grains noticeably finer than in conventional *** new paradigm is fully illustrated with experiments conducted on amorphous CaCu3Ti4O12 precursor powder,shown to experience,on heating,crystallization through intermediate phases,followed by chemical reaction leading to synthesis of the end-product powder,plus densification depending on field *** processing time and furnace temperature are considerably reduced,demonstrating that enhanced synthesis and sintering rates applied under field *** results found in Bi2/3Cu3Ti4O12are also *** different factors that may contribute to this unique scenario,including Joule heating,defect generation,and reduction of free energy for nuclei formation promoted by the applied field,are briefly ***,the findings we bring here are exclusive as they show an exploitable way that allows rapid processing of materials with good control over particle and grain coarsening.
