Experimental study on shock interaction control of double wedge in high-enthalpy hypersonic flow subject to plasma synthetic jet

The hypersonic shock-shock interaction flow field at double-wedge geometries controlled by plasma synthetic jet actuator is experimentally studied in a Ma = 8 high-enthalpy shock tunnel with the purpose of exploring a novel technique for reducing surface heat flux in a real flight environment. The results demonstrate that increasing the discharge energy is advantageous in eliminating the shock wave, shifting the shock wave interaction point, and shortening the control response time. The oblique shock wave can be completely removed when the actuator's discharge energy grows from 0.4 J to 11.5 J, and the displacement of the shock wave interaction point increases by 124.56%, while the controlled response time is shortened by 30 μs. Besides, the reduction in diameter of the jet exit is firstly proved to have a negative impact on energy deposition in a working environment with incoming flow, which reduces the discharge energy and hence decreases the control effect. The shock wave control response time lengthens when the jet exits away from the second wedge. Along with comparing the change in wall heat flux at the second wedge over time, the control effect of plasma synthetic jet actuator with and without inflation is also analyzed. When plasma synthetic jet works in inflatable mode, both the ability to eliminate shock waves and the shifting effect of the shock wave interaction point are increased significantly, and the wall heat flux is also reduced.

ANALYTICAL SOLUTION OF flow OF SECOND-ORDER NON-NEWTONIAN fluidS THROUGH ANNULAR PIPES

This paper presents an analytical solution to the unsteady flow of the second-order non-Newtonian fluids by the use of intergral transformation method. Based on the numerical results, the effect of non-Newtonian coefficient Hc and other parameters on the flow are analysed. It is shown that the annular flow has a shorter characteristic time than the general pipe flow while the correspondent velocity, average velocity have a ... nailer value for a given Hc. Else, when radii ratio keeps unchanged, the shear stress of inner wall of annular flow will change with the inner radius -compared with the general pipe flow and is always smaller than that of the outer wall.

The steady-state flow mathematical model of arbitrary shaped homogeneous reservoirs with impermeable barrier is constructed in this paper. By using Boundary Element Method （BEM）, the mathematical model is solved. And a streamline generating technique is presented. The figures of streamlines are plotted and analyzed considering the effect of complex boundary and impermeable barriers. Through analyzing it indicates that the size, shape and orientation of impermeable barriers have various degree of influence on the streamlines. So, if there are impermeable barriers in reservoir according to the geological materials, the influence of impermeable barriers must be considered when adjusting flood pattern and injection strategy.

Investigation on Mechanisms of Polymer Enhanced Oil Recovery by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and Microscopic Theoretical Analysis

Polymer flooding is an efficient technique to enhance oil recovery over water flooding. There are lots of discussions regarding the mechanisms for polymer flooding enhancing oil recovery. The main focus is whether polymer flooding can increase sweep efficiency alone, or can increase both of sweep efficiency and displacement efficiency. We present a study on this problem. Oil displacement experiments on 4 natural cores show that polymer flooding can increase oil recovery efficiency by more than 12% over water. Moreover, photos are taken by the nuclear magnetic resonance （NMR） method both after water flooding and after polymer flooding, which show remaining oil saturation distribution at the middle cross section and the central longitudinal section. Analyses of these photos demonstrate that polymer flooding can increase both sweep efficiency and displacement efficiency.

Numerical Simulation of the Seismic Response of a Horizontal Storage Tank Based on a SPH-FEM Coupling Method

A coupled numerical calculation method combining smooth particle hydrodynamics(SPH)and the finite element method(FEM)was implemented to investigate the seismic response of horizontal storage *** of a horizontal storage tank featuring a free liquid surface under seismic action was constructed using the SPH–FEM coupling *** stored liquid was discretized using SPH particles,while the tank and supports were discretized using the *** interaction between the stored liquid and the tank was simulated by using the meshless particle contact ***,the numerical simulation results were compared and analyzed against seismic simulation shaking table test data to validate the ***,a series of numerical models,considering different liquid storage volumes and seismic effects,were constructed to obtain time history data of base shear and top center displacement,which revealed the seismic performance of horizontal storage *** simulation results and experimental data showed good agreement,with an error rate of less than 18.85%.And this conformity signifies the rationality of the SPH-FEM coupling *** base shear and top center displacement values obtained by the coupled SPH-FEM method were only 53.3% to 69.1% of those calculated by the equivalent mass method employed in the current *** the stored liquid volume increased,the seismic response of the horizontal storage tank exhibited a gradual upward trend,with the seismic response increasing from 73% to 388% for every 35% increase in stored liquid *** maximum von Mises stress of the tank and the supports remained below the steel yield strength during the *** coupled SPH-FEM method holds certain advantages in studying the seismic problems of tanks with complex structural forms,particularly due to the representation of the flow field distribution during earthquakes by involving reservoir fluid participation.

A reduced-order model for fast predicting ionized flows of hypersonic vehicles along flight trajectory

An improved Reduced-Order Model(ROM)is proposed based on a flow-solution preprocessing operation and a fast sampling strategy to efficiently and accurately predict ionized hypersonic *** ROM is generated in low-dimensional space by performing the Proper Orthogonal Decomposition(POD)on snapshots and is coupled with the Radial Basis Function(RBF)to achieve fast prediction ***,due to the disparate scales in the ionized flow field,the conventional ROM usually generates spurious negative ***,this issue is addressed by performing flow-solution preprocessing in logarithmic space to improve the conventional ***,extra orthogonal polynomials are introduced in the RBF interpolation to achieve additional improvement of the prediction *** addition,to construct high-efficiency snapshots,a trajectory-constrained adaptive sampling strategy based on convex hull optimization is *** evaluate the performance of the proposed fast prediction method,two hypersonic vehicles with classic configurations,i.e.a wave-rider and a reentry capsule,are used to validate the proposed *** two cases show that the proposed fast prediction method has high accuracy near the vehicle surface and the free-stream region where the flow field is *** with the conventional ROM prediction,the prediction results are significantly improved by the proposed method around the discontinuities,*** shock wave and the ionized *** a result,the proposed fast prediction method reduces the error of the conventional ROM by at least 45%,with a speedup of approximately 2.0×105compared to the Computational fluid Dynamic(CFD)*** test cases demonstrate that the method developed here is efficient and accurate for predicting ionized hypersonic flows.

Channel flows in Plate Heat Exchangers with the Aid of Particle Tracking Velocimetry

Channel flows of Plate Heat Exchangers (PHEs) were assessed by experiments with three different chevron angle arrangements in turbulent regime. Two chevron angles were selected to assess low and high pressure drop channels, besides a third mixed configuration as to achieve in-between results regarding hydraulic performance. Friction factor correlations were provided with the channel Reynolds number ranging from 1175 to 8325. Two-dimensional (2D) mean velocity field was obtained by Particle Tracking Velocimetry (PTV) with Reynolds number equal to 3450. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first experimental study that quantified the complete 2D velocity field of a typical PHE channel. This value allowed comparison with literature results of Plate and Shell Heat Exchanger (PSHE) channels with the same Reynolds number. PSHE mean velocity field is highly heterogeneous as compared to the one obtained for PHE channels. Peak velocity magnitude in the PSHE center is 50% higher than its bulk velocity, whereas this value is only 15% higher in the PHE center. Pressure drop in PHE mixed channels cannot be approximated by averaging chevron angles: furrow flow prevailed in the specified conditions. The axial velocity is asymmetric regarding the vertical plane. Smooth streamlines prevail in the channel inlet. Recirculation zones at the channel exit affect pipe flow in the manifold outlet with swirling flow structures. The necessary length to obtain fully developed pipe flow at the channel outlet was estimated. Significant velocity components occur in the distribution areas and can limit the heat exchanger performance. The results reported herein are essential to understand how the PHE channel geometry affects the velocity field and, therefore, local heat transfer and dissipation processes.

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Measurements of Original Water Saturation and Mobile Water Saturation in Low Permeability Sandstone Gas

We use nuclear magnetic resonance （NMR） and centrifugation to measure the original water saturation and mobile water saturation of cores from the Xujiahe low permeability sandstone gas reservoir, and compare the NMR results with the corresponding field data. It is shown that the NMR water saturation after 300psi centrifugation effectively represents the original water saturation measured by weighing fresh cores. There is a good correlation between mobile water saturation and the water production performance of the corresponding gas wells. The critical mobile water saturation whether reservoir produces water of the Xujiahe low permeability sandstone gas is 6%. The higher the mobile water saturation, the greater the water production rate of gas well. This indicates that well＇s water production performance can be forecasted by mobile water saturation of cores.
