Unlocking the stable interface in aqueous zinc-ion battery with multifunctional xylose-based electrolyte additives

The growth of dendrites and the side reactions occurring at the Zn anode pose significant challenges to the commercialization of aqueous Zn-ion batteries（AZIBs）. These challenges arise from the inherent conflict between mass transfer and electrochemical kinetics. In this study, we propose the use of a multifunctional electrolyte additive based on the xylose（Xylo） molecule to address these issues by modulating the solvation structure and electrode/electrolyte interface, thereby stabilizing the Zn anode. The introduction of the additive alters the solvation structure, creating steric hindrance that impedes charge transfer and then reduces electrochemical kinetics. Furthermore, in-situ analyses demonstrate that the reconstructed electrode/electrolyte interface facilitates stable and rapid Zn2+ion migration and suppresses corrosion and hydrogen evolution reactions. As a result, symmetric cells incorporating the Xylo additive exhibit significantly enhanced reversibility during the Zn plating/stripping process, with an impressively long lifespan of up to 1986 h, compared to cells using pure ZnSO4electrolyte. When combined with a polyaniline cathode, the full cells demonstrate improved capacity and long-term cyclic stability. This work offers an effective direction for improving the stability of Zn anode via electrolyte design, as well as highperformance AZIBs.

Diagnosis and treatment of solidpseudopapillary tumors of the pancreas

Solid-pseudopapillary tumors (SPTs) of the pancreas have been reported as rare lesions with' low malignant potential' occurring mainly in young women. This study was designed to define the clinicopathological characteristics and the effect of surgical intervention. METHODS:A retrospective clinical analysis was made of 21 patients with solid-pseudopapillary tumor of the pancreas admitted from June 1994 to December 2004. RESULTS:Abdominal pain as the major complaint was found in 13 patients, and palpable abdominal mass in 7. Imaging examination showed the abdominal mass clearly, but diagnosis was not defined. In 12 patients, tumors were located in the pancreatic head and in 9 patients, in the pancreatic tail. The average diameter of the tumor was 9.5 cm (range, 3-20 cm). One patient had liver metastasis. The diagnosis of the tumor was proved pathologically during operation in 14 patients, and other 3 patients who had been diagnosed as having insulinoma and other malignant tumors were confirmed by paraffin section and enzyme labeling after operation. Eighteen patients (85.7% ) were followed up with a median period of 24 months, 1-60 months without tumor recurrence. CONCLUSION:Huge pancreatic masses of the pancreas in young women are suggestive of solid-pseudopapillary tumors. Aggressive surgical therapy can result in good prognosis in these patients.

Pancreatectomy combined with superior mesenteric-portal vein resection: report of 32 cases

BACKGROUND: Resection of the superior mesenteric- portal vein (SMPV) during pancreatoduodenectomy is dis- puted. Although the morbidity and mortality of patients af- ter this operation are acceptable, survival is limited. In this study, we evaluated the morbidity, mortality and survival of patients with ductal adenocarcinoma of the pancreas who had undergone pancreatectomy with en bloc portal vein re- section. METHODS: A total of 32 patients with ductal adenocarci- noma of the pancreas who had undergone pancreatectomy with SMPV resection between 1999 and 2003 were retro- spectively analyzed. In addition, they were categorized in- to two groups according to the invasion of the wall of the portal vein: group A (n =12), extended compression of the wall of the portal vein by surrounding carcinoma without true invasion and group B (n =20), true invasion including intramural and transmural invasion. RESULTS; The morbidity of the 32 patients was 31.25%. There was no operative death, and the overall 1-,3-year survival rates were 59% and 16%, respectively. The mean survival time of patients with microscopically positive mar- gin was only 5. 6 months as compared with 20 months in patients with microscopically negative margin. No diffe- rences in tumor size, margin positivity, nodal positivity, and 1-, 3-year survival rates were observed between the two groups. CONCLUSIONS; If selected carefully, pancreatectomy combined with SMPV resection can be performed safely, without increase in the morbidity and mortality. SMPV re- section should be performed only when a margin-negative resection is expected to be achieved. SMPV invasion is notassociated with histologic parameters suggesting a poor prognosis.

Narrow line between benefit and harm: Additivity of hyperthermia to cisplatin cytotoxicity in different gastrointestinal cancer cells

AIM To investigate the response to hyperthermia and chemotherapy, analyzing apoptosis, cytotoxicity, and cisplatin concentration in different digestive system cancer *** AGS(gastric cancer cell line), Caco-2(colon cancer cell line) and T3M4(pancreatic cancer cell line) were treated by cisplatin and different temperature setting(37 ℃ to 45 ℃) either in isolation, or in combination. Treatment lasted for one hour. 48 h after the treatment viability was evaluated by MTT, cell apoptosis by Annexin V-PE and 7 ADD flow cytometry. Intracellular cisplatin concentration was measured immediately after the treatment, using mass spectrometry. Isobologram analysis was performed to evaluate the mathematical combined effect of temperature and *** AGS cells were the most sensitive to isolated application of hyperthermia. Hyperthermia, in addition to cisplatin treatment, did not provoke a synergistic effect at intervals from 37 ℃ to 41 ℃ in neither cancer cell line. However, a temperature of 43 ℃ enhanced cisplatin cytotoxicity for Caco-2 cells. Moreover, isobologram analysis revealed mathematical antagonistic effects of cisplatin and temperature combined treatment in AGS cells; variations between synergistic, additive, and antagonistic effects in Caco-2 cells; and additive and antagonistic effects in T3 M4 cells. Combined treatment enhanced initiation of cell apoptosis in AGS, Caco-2, and T3 M4 cells by 61%, 20%, and 19% respectively. The increase of intracellular cisplatin concentration was observed at 43 ℃ by 30%, 20%, and 18% in AGS, Caco-2, and T3 M4 cells, *** In addition to cisplatin, hyperthermia up to 43 ℃ does not affect the viability of cancer cells in a synergistic manner.

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography in elderly patients: Difficult cannulation and adverse events
