Full lifetime demonstration of a Micro-Cathode-Arc thruster evolution characteristics

Ground lifetime test is the most crucial experiment to assess the performance,*** flight qualification of electric propulsion,and it can bring new insights for understanding the operation *** work demonstrates a full lifetime test of 140000 cycles on a Micro-Cathode-Arc Thruster(μCAT)with 160μs charging time and 86 mJ charging energy.A four-probe resistivity measurement method is utilized to investigate variations in the conductive film thickness and resistivity throughout the thruster *** film parameters show that the lifetime of theμCAT can be divided into three *** the initial stage,the film thickness decreases by 1.2μm and the resistivity increases significantly due to the high discharge intensity and intense film ablation;In the steady stage,the change of the film thickness is within 5%,and the resistivity of the film increases slowly from 0.050Ω·mm to 0.223Ω·*** the end stage,the resistivity exponentially increases from 0.223Ω·mm to 1.176Ω·mm,with the increase accounting for 81%,ultimately resulting in the failure of the thruster open ***,the evolution of discharge parameters,and the variation of plume parameters are measured throughout the *** discharge characteristics also show significant differences in the duration of voltage and current in these three *** results of plume shape and plasma parameters are also well con-sistent with the discharge parameters and film *** results suggest that,for evaluating the steady stage lifetime of thrusters,the film thickness is the best indicator compared to the variations in resistivity and voltage-current *** the end stage,the plasma plume *** duration,and plume parameters can conveniently and clearly characterize the thruster failures and irregularity.

Initial costates derived by near-optimal reference sequence and least-squares method

In this paper,we present a novel initial costates solver for initializing time-optimal trajectory problems in relative motion with continuous low *** proposed solver consists of two primary components:training a Multilayer Perceptron(MLP)for generating reference sequence and Time of Flight(TOF)to the target,and deriving a system of linear algebraic equations for obtaining the initial *** overcome the challenge of generating training samples for the MLP,the backward generation method is proposed to obtain five different training *** training database and sample form are determined by analyzing the input and output correlation using the Pearson correlation *** best-performing MLP is obtained by analyzing the training results with various hyper-parameter combinations.A reference sequence starting from the initial states is obtained by integrating forward with the near-optimal control vector from the output of ***,a system of linear algebraic equations for estimating the initial costates is derived using the reference sequence and the necessary conditions for *** results demonstrate that the proposed initial costates solver improves the convergence ratio and reduce the function calls of the shooting ***,Monte-Carlo simulation illustrates that the initial costates solver is applicable to different initial velocities,demonstrating excellent generalization ability.

A path planning algorithm for a crop monitoring fixed-wing unmanned aerial system

With the growing demand for automation in agriculture, industries increasingly rely on drones to perform crop monitoring and surveillance. In this regard, fixed-wing unmanned aerial systems(UASs)are viable platforms for scanning a large crop field, given their payload capacity and range. To achieve maximum coverage without landing for battery replacement, an algorithm for producing a minimal required energy survey path is essential. Hence, an energy-aware coverage path planning algorithm is proposed *** constraints for a fixed-wing UAS to fly at low altitudes while achieving full coverage of the crop field are first analyzed. Then, the full path is decomposed into straight-line and U-turn primitives. Finally, an algorithm to calculate a combination of straight-line segments and U-turns is proposed to obtain the path with minimum required energy consumption. The genetic algorithm is used to efficiently determine the order of the straight-line paths to traverse. Case studies show that the proposed algorithm can produce planning results for a convex-polygon-shaped crop field.

Numerical study on ignition start-up process of an underwater solid rocket motor across a wide depth range

Solid rocket motors have important applications in the propulsion of trans-media vehicles and underwater launched *** this paper,the ignition start-up process of an underwater solid rocket motor across a wide depth range has been numerically studied.A novel multi-domain integrated model has been developed by combining the solid propellant ignition and combustion model with the volume of fluid multiphase *** integrated model enables the coupled simulation of the propellant combustion and gas flow inside the motor,along with the gas jet evolution in the external water *** detailed flow field developments in the combustion chamber,nozzle,and wake field are carefully *** variation rules of the internal ballistics and thrust performance are also *** effects of environmental medium and operating depth on the ignition start-up process are systematically *** results show that the influence of the operating environment on the internal ballistic characteristics is primarily reflected in the initial period after the nozzle closure *** development of the gas jet in water lags significantly compared with that in *** the water depth increases,the ignition delay time of the motor is shortened,and the morphology evolution of the gas jet is significantly compressed and ***,the necking and bulging of the jet boundary near the nozzle outlet and the consequent shock oscillations are intensified,resulting in stronger fluctuations in the wake pressure field and motor thrust.

Effect of cold-working on corrosion induced damage in lug joints

Lug joints are preferred joineries for transferring heavy loads to parent components in aerospace *** experience corrosion due to environmental conditions,improper surface finishes and rubbing displacement between the pin and *** causes damage of different sizes and shapes near the *** degradation due to corrosion-induced damage is modelled as a through-pit at one of the identified critical locations through stress *** effect of this pit on fatigue crack initiation life is ***-hole is pre-stressed by cold-working and the benefits of inducing plastic wake on the intended performance of the lug joint during the damages due to corrosion are brought out and compared with non-cold-worked *** analysis is performed on this lug joint with *** results obtained highlight the benefits of cold-working and the methodology can be extended to damage growth and analyse the effect of surface treatments for better structural integrity of components of aerospace vehicles.

Dynamic analysis of tethered defunct satellites with solar panels

A precise dynamic model for towing and removing a defunct satellite with solar panels in orbit using a tethered net often has low computational efficiency owing to the complex contact and collision between the net and panels,which is not conducive to *** solve this problem,a“single main tether–multiple subtether”bifurcation structure with beads was employed as the tethered net *** study investigated the dynamics of tethered defunct satellites with solar panels,particularly the behavior of the attitude of the tethered satellite,oscillation of the main tether,and vibration of solar panels under different *** results showed that different attachment configurations of the subtethers and the flexibility of the main tether have an evident impact on the dynamic characteristics of the system.

The Influence of CO_(2) Cured Manganese Slag on the Performance and Mechanical Properties of Ultra-High Performance Concrete

The presence of toxic elements in manganese slag(MSG)poses a threat to the environment due to potential *** CO_(2) curing on MS offers a promising approach to immobilize toxic substances within this material,thereby mitigating their release into the natural *** study investigates the impact of CO_(2) cured MS on various rheological parameters,including slump flow,plastic viscosity(η),and yield shear stress(τ).Additionally,it assesses flexural and compressive strengths(f_(t) and f_(cu)),drying shrinkage rates(DSR),durability indicators(chloride ion migration coefficient(CMC),carbonization depth(CD)),and the leaching behavior of heavy metal *** examination via scanning electron microscopy(SEM)is employed to elucidate the underlying *** results indicate that CO_(2) curing significantly enhances the slump flow of ultra-high performance concrete(UHPC)by up to 51.2%.Moreover,it reduces UHPC’sηandτby rates ranging from 0%to 52.7%and 0%to 40.2%,*** DSR exhibits a linear increase corresponding to the mass ratio of CO_(2) cured ***,CO_(2) curing enhances both f_(t) and f_(cu) of UHPC by up to 28.7%and 17.6%,*** electrical resistance is also improved,showing an increase of up to 53.7%.The relationship between mechanical strengths and electrical resistance follows a cubic *** CO_(2) cured MS demonstrates a notable decrease in the CMC and CD by rates ranging from 0%to 52.6%and 0%to 26.1%,*** reductions of leached chromium(Cr)and manganese(Mn)are up to 576.3%and 1312.7%,***,CO_(2) curing also enhances the compactness of UHPC,thereby demonstrating its potential to improve both mechanical and durability properties.

Recorded recurrent deep reinforcement learning guidance laws for intercepting endoatmospheric maneuvering missiles

This work proposes a recorded recurrent twin delayed deep deterministic(RRTD3)policy gradient algorithm to solve the challenge of constructing guidance laws for intercepting endoatmospheric maneuvering missiles with uncertainties and observation *** attack-defense engagement scenario is modeled as a partially observable Markov decision process(POMDP).Given the benefits of recurrent neural networks(RNNs)in processing sequence information,an RNN layer is incorporated into the agent’s policy network to alleviate the bottleneck of traditional deep reinforcement learning methods while dealing with *** measurements from the interceptor’s seeker during each guidance cycle are combined into one sequence as the input to the policy network since the detection frequency of an interceptor is usually higher than its guidance *** training,the hidden states of the RNN layer in the policy network are recorded to overcome the partially observable problem that this RNN layer causes inside the *** training curves show that the proposed RRTD3 successfully enhances data efficiency,training speed,and training *** test results confirm the advantages of the RRTD3-based guidance laws over some conventional guidance laws.
