Olfactory ensheathing glia promote axonal regeneration in the mammalian central nervous system,including retinal ganglion cell axonal growth through the injured optic ***,it is unknown whether olfactory ensheathing glia also have neuroprotective *** ensheathing glia express brain-derived neurotrophic factor,one of the best neuroprotectants for axotomized retinal ganglion ***,we aimed to investigate the neuroprotective capacity of olfactory ensheating glia after optic nerve *** ensheathing glia cells from an established rat immortalized clonal cell line,TEG3,were intravitreally injected in intact and axotomized retinas in syngeneic and allogeneic mode with or without microglial inhibition or immunosuppressive *** and gene expression analyses were *** bulb-derived primary olfactory ensheathing glia and TEG3 express major histocompatibility complex classⅡ*** and syngenically transplanted TEG3 cells survived in the vitreous for up to 21 days,forming an *** axotomized retinas,only the allogeneic TEG3 transplant rescued retinal ganglion cells at 7 days but not at 21 *** these retinas,microglial anatomical activation was higher than after optic nerve crush *** intact retinas,both transplants activated microglial cells and caused retinal ganglion cell death at 21 days,a loss that was higher after allotransplantation,triggered by pyroptosis and partially rescued by microglial inhibition or ***,neuroprotection of axotomized retinal ganglion cells did not improve with these *** different neuroprotective properties,different toxic effects,and different responses to microglial inhibitory treatments of olfactory ensheathing glia in the retina depending on the type of transplant highlight the importance of thorough preclinical studies to explore these variables.

Alzheimer’s disease(AD)threatens the foundations of humanity and our *** is a neurological disorder primarily affecting the elderly through memory disorders,cognitive decline,and loss of *** dramatic consequences of this late-onset disease were illustrated sensitively in Michael Haneke’s masterpiece,*** and governments have invested colossal efforts to develop a treatment for this terrible *** and in the past decade the amyloid cascade has dominated the therapeutic research on AD,but the absence of benefit for patients treated with drugs that reduce brain amyloid deposit questions the role ofβ-amyloid as a causative agent(Herrup,2021).The recent approval of aducanumab by the United States Food and Drug Administration,a drug that targetsβ-amyloid,is at the center of a scandal among clinicians and researchers,as it does not provide therapeutic benefits to patients and is listed among the breakdowns of the year 2021 by Science magazine(Voosen et al.,2021).The lack of progress in curing AD and recent therapeutic failures calls for further exploratory research.

Geodynamic evolution of the Earth over the Phanerozoic:Plate tectonic activity and palaeoclimatic indicators

During the last decades, numerous local reconstructions based on field geol- ogy were developed at the University of lausanne （UNIL）. Team members of the UNIL partici- pated in the elaboration of a 600 Ma to present global plate tectonic model deeply rooted in geological data, controlled by geometric and kinematic constraints and coherent with forces acting at plate boundaries. In this paper, we compare values derived from the tectonic model （ages of oceanic floor, production and subduction rates, tectonic activity） with a combination of chemical proxies （namely CO2, 87Sr/86Sr, glaciation evidence, and sea-level variations） known to be strongly in- fluenced by tectonics. One of the outstanding results is the observation of an overall decreas- ing trend in the evolution of the global tectonic activity, mean oceanic ages and plate velocities over the whole Phanerozoic. We speculate that the decreasing trend reflects the global cooling of the Earth system. Additionally, the parallel between the tectonic activity and CO2 together with the extension of glaciations confirms the generally accepted idea of a primary control of CO2 on climate and highlights the link between plate tectonics and CO2 in a time scale greater than 107 yr. last, the wide variations observed in the reconstructed sea-floor production rates are in contradiction with the steady-state model hypothesized by some.

Weak solutions for a bi-fluid model for a mixture of two compressible non interacting fluids

We investigate a version of one velocity Baer-Nunziato model with dissipation for the mixture of two compressible fluids with the goal to prove for it the existence of weak solutions for arbitrary large initial data on a large time *** transform the one velocity Baer-Nunziato system to another"more academic"system which possesses the clear"Navier-Stokes structure".We solve the new system by adapting to its structure the Lions approach for solving the(mono-fluid)compressible Navier-Stokes *** extension of the theory of renormalized solutions to the transport equation to more continuity equations with renormalizing functions of several variables is essential in this *** derive a criterion of almost uniqueness for the renormalized solutions to the pure transport equation without the classical assumption on the boundedness of the divergence of the transporting *** result does not follow from the DiPerna-Lions transport theory and it is of independent *** criterion plays the crucial role in the identification of the weak solutions to the original one velocity Baer-Nunziato problem starting from the weak solutions of the academic *** far as we know,this is the first result on the existence of weak solutions for a version of the one velocity bi-fluid system of the Baer-Nunziato type in the mathematical literature.

Dimensions of hepatocellular carcinoma phenotypic diversity

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is the 3^(rd) leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. More than 80% of HCCs arise within chronic liver disease resulting from viral hepatitis, alcohol, hemochromatosis, obesity and metabolic syndrome or genotoxins. Projections based on Western lifestyle and its metabolic consequences anticipate a further increase in incidence, despite recent breakthroughs in the management of viral hepatitis. HCCs display high heterogeneity of molecular phenotypes, which challenges clinical management. However, emerging molecular classifications of HCCs have not yet formed a unified corpus translatable to the clinical practice. Thus, patient management is currently based upon tumor number, size, vascular invasion, performance status and functional liver reserve. Nonetheless, an impressive body of molecular evidence emerged within the last 20 years and is becoming increasingly available to medical practitioners and researchers in the form of repositories. Therefore, the aim this work is to review molecular data underlying HCC classifications and to organize this corpus into the major dimensions explaining HCC phenotypic diversity. Major efforts have been recently made worldwide toward a unifying "clinically-friendly" molecular landscape. As a result, a consensus emerges on three major dimensions explaining the HCC heterogeneity. In the first dimension, tumor cell proliferation and differentiation enabled allocation of HCCs to two major classes presenting profoundly different clinical aggressiveness. In the second dimension, HCC microenvironment and tumor immunity underlie recent therapeutic breakthroughs prolonging patients' survival. In the third dimension,metabolic reprogramming, with the recent emergence of subclass-specific metabolic profiles, may lead to adaptive and combined therapeutic approaches. Phenological stage effect on phenolic composition and repellent potential of Mentha pulegium against Tribolium castaneum and lasioderma serricorne

Objective:To elucidate for the first time the phenological stage effect on polyphenol,flavonoid and proanthocyanidin contents of pennyroyal(Mentha pulegium)as well as their antioxidant capacities and insecticidal potentials against Tribolium castaneum and lasioderma ***:Crude methanol extracts from pennyroyal(Mentha pulegium)aerial parts were evaluated for their anti radical,reducing power activities and repellent potentials against selected coleopteran insects during different phenological ***:Phenolic contents of pennyroyal aerial parts and their antioxidant effects were significantly dependent on maturity stage of the *** maximum of phenol production was reached during the full flowering *** was the major phenol in Mentha pulegium with an amount of6.01 mg/g of dry vegetable matter during this ***,at fructification stage,the highest antioxidant activity was not related to high phenolic *** repulsive effect of pennyroyal extract showed that lasioderma serricorne was more susceptible to pennyroyal extract than Tribolium castarneum with corresponding median repellent dose values of 0.124and 0.006 mg/mL ***,great differences in insect repulsion depending on extract concentrations,exposure time and developmental stage was *** the lowest concentration(0.125 mg/mL),the repellent effect against Tribolium reached its maximum(90%)during the fructification stage(after 24 h of exposure)while this repellent effect was 80%during the vegetative ***:Due to the strong insecticidal potential of pennyroyal extracts,this study highlights the therapeutic properties of this plant and encourages its use as a safer,environmental-friendly and efficient insecticide in food industry.
