Multiscale interaction analysis of Landfall Typhoon Lekima (2019) based on vorticity equation diagnosis

To investigate the multiscale interaction characteristics of Landfall Typhoon Lekima (2019), this study analyzed the characteristics of the different scale vortex structure and interactions among different scales based on vorticity equation diagnosis. The analysis is based on the simulation results of the WRF model which has been thoroughly verified. The main results are as follows: the original vorticity dominated by the meso-alpha scale vorticity increases with height and then decreases, with maximum vorticity distributed at 900 hPa. The meso-beta scale vorticity varies significantly with altitude, while the meso-gamma scale vorticity field exhibits obvious positive vorticity below 850 hPa. The meso-alpha scale vorticity tendency primarily maintains negative, contributing significantly to the overall reduction in the original vorticity field over time. The increase in mid-to-upper-level (above 550 hPa) original vorticity is mainly related to the variations in the meso-beta and meso-gamma scale vorticity fields. The original vorticity dominated by the meso-alpha scale vorticity increases with height and then decreases, and the whole layer vorticity decreases over time. The meso-beta scale vorticity varies significantly with altitude and time, while the meso-gamma scale vorticity field consistently exhibits significant positive vorticity below 850 hPa. The vorticity equation diagnosis revealed that the primary source terms of the vorticity tendencies are the twisting and stretching terms, and the main sink terms being horizontal and vertical vorticity transport terms below 900 hPa. The source terms and sink terms exchange above 850 hPa. Scale separation results show that the primary contributions of all impact factors originate from the meso-alpha and meso-gamma scale fields (accounting for over 80% of the total), with the contribution of the meso-alpha scale being less than that of the meso-gamma scale and a notable contribution over 35.5% of the interactions betwe

BL03HB: a Laue microdiffraction beamline for both protein crystallography and materials science at SSRF

A Laue microdiffraction beamline(BL03HB) was constructed at the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility(SSRF).This beamline features two consecutive focusing points in two different sectors within its end station, the first dedicated to protein crystallography and the other tailored to materials science applications. Based on a superbend dipole magnet with a magnetic field of 2.29 T, a two-stage focusing design was implemented with two sets of Kirkpatrick-Baez mirrors to achieve a micro white beam as small as 4.2 μ m ×4.3 μ m at the first sector and 0.9 μ m ×1.3 μ m at the second sector in the standard beamline operation mode at SSRF. The X-ray microbeam in the two sectors can be easily switched between monochromatic and white beams by moving a four-bounce monochromator in or out of the light path, respectively. In the protein crystallography sector, white-beam Laue microdiffraction was demonstrated to successfully determine the structure of protein crystals from only a few images of diffraction data collected by a Pilatus 2 M area detector. In the materials science sector,the white-beam Laue diffraction was collected in a reflection geometry using another Pilatus 2 M area detector, which could map the microstructural distribution on the sample surface by scanning the samples. In general, the BL03HB beamline promotes the application of Laue microdiffraction in both protein crystallography and materials science. This paper presents a comprehensive overview of the BL03HB beamline, end station, and the first commission results.

Electrochemical Hydrogen Charging on Corrosion Behavior of Ti-6Al-4V Alloy in Artificial Seawater

This study employs advanced electrochemical and surface characterization techniques to investigate the impact of electrochemical hydrogen charging on the corrosion behavior and surface film of the Ti-6Al-4V *** findings revealed the formation ofγ-TiH andδ-TiH_(2) hydrides in the alloy after hydrogen *** hydrogen charging resulted in more significant degradation of the alloy microstructure,leading to deteriorated protectiveness of the surface *** trend was further confirmed by the electrochemical measurements,which showed that the corrosion resistance of the alloy progressively worsened as the hydrogen charging time was ***,this work provides valuable insights into the mechanisms underlying the corrosion of Ti-6Al-4V alloy under hydrogen charging conditions.

Mechanism of plant-soil feedback in a degraded alpine grassland on the Tibetan Plateau

Although biotic and abiotic factors have been confirmed to be critical factors that affect community dynamics, their interactive effects have yet to be fully considered in grassland degradation. Herein, we tested how soil nutrients and microbes regulated plant-soil feedback (PSF) in a degraded alpine grassland. Our results indicated that soil total carbon (STC; from 17.66 to 12.55 g/kg) and total nitrogen (STN; from 3.16 to 2.74 g/kg) exhibited significant (P < 0.05) decrease from non-degraded (ND) to severely degraded (SD). Despite higher nutrients in ND soil generating significantly (P < 0.05) positive PSF (0.52) on monocots growth when the soil was sterilized, a high proportion of pathogens (36%) in ND non-sterilized soil resulted in a strong negative PSF on monocots. In contrast, the higher phenotypic plasticity of dicots coupled with a higher abundance of mutualists and saprophytes (70%) strongly promoted their survival and growth in SD with infertile soil. Our findings identified a novel mechanism that there was a functional group shift from monocots with higher vulnerability to soil pathogens in the ND fertile soil to dicots with higher dependence on nutritional mutualists in the degraded infertile soil. The emerging irreversible eco-evolutionary in PSF after degradation might cause a predicament for the restoration of degraded grassland.

Hot Deformation Behavior and Workability of a New Ni–W–Cr Superalloy for Molten Salt Reactors

The hot deformation behavior of a newly developed Ni–W–Cr superalloy for use in 800℃molten salt reactors(MSRs)was looked into by isothermal compression tests in the temperature range of 1050–1200℃with a strain rate of 0.001–1 s^(−1)under a true strain of *** Arrhenius-type model for the Ni–W–Cr superalloy was constructed by fitting the corrected flow stress *** this model,the effect of dispersion of solid solution elements during thermal deformation on microstructure evolution was considered,as well as the effects of friction and adiabatic heating on the temperature and strain rate-dependent variation of flow *** hot deformation activation energy of the Ni–W–Cr superalloy was 323 kJ/mol,which was less than that of the Hastelloy N alloy(currently used in MSRs).According to the rectified flow stress data,processing maps were *** conjunction with the corresponding deformation microstructures,the flow instability domains of the Ni–W–Cr superalloy were determined to be 1050–1160℃/0.03–1 s^(−1)and 1170–1200℃/0.001–0.09 s^(−1).In these deformation conditions,a locally inhomogeneous microstructure was caused by flow-i.e.,incomplete dynamic recrystallization and hot working parameters should avoid sliding into these *** ideal processing hot deformation domain for the Ni–W–Cr superalloy was determined to be 1170–1200℃/0.6–1 s^(−1).

Hot Compression Behavior and Tensile Property of a Novel Ni-Co-Based Superalloy Prepared by Electron Beam Smelting Layered Solidification Technology

The hot compression behavior and tensile strength after compression of a new Ni-Co-based superalloy produced using electron beam smelting layered(EBSL)solidification technology were *** compression tests were performed at temperatures of 1120℃and 1150℃,with strain rates of 1 s^(-1) and 0.01 s^(-1),reaching a true strain of *** strength was evaluated at room *** results revealed that this EBSL technology accelerates dynamic recrystallization(DRX),without compromising the strength of alloy.A significant correlation between the volume fraction of DRX and the strain rate was observed,with higher fractions at lower strain rates,leading to higher tensile ***,at the same strain rate,the specimens compressed at 1120℃exhibited higher tensile strength due to undissolvedγ′*** solution and aging heat treatment,the alloy maintained high tensile *** results suggested that the EBSL Ni-Co-based superalloy offers excellent prospects for practical applications.

The SLEGS beamline of SSRF

The Shanghai Laser Electron Gamma Source(SLEGS, located in BL03SSID) beamline at the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility(SSRF) is a Laser Compton Scattering(LCS) gamma source used for the investigation of nuclear structure, which is in extensive demand in fields such as nuclear astrophysics, nuclear cluster structure, polarization physics, and nuclear energy. The beamline is based on the inverse Compton scattering of 10640 nm photons on 3.5 GeV electrons and a gamma source with variable energy by changing the scattering angle from 20° to 160°. γ rays of 0.25-21.1 MeV can be extracted by the scheme consisting of the interaction chamber, coarse collimator, fine collimator, and attenuator. The maximum photon flux for 180° is approximately 10~7 photons/s at the target at 21.7 MeV, with a 3-mm-diameter beam. The beamline was equipped with four types of spectrometers for experiments in( γ,γ'),( γ,n),( γ,p), and( γ,α). At present, Nuclear Resonance Fluorescence(NRF) spectrometry, Flat-Efficiency neutron Detector(FED) spectrometry, neutron Time-Of-Flight(TOF) spectrometry, and Light-Charged Particle(LCP) spectrometry methods have been developed.

Cracking on a nickel-based superalloy fabricated by direct energy deposition

Cracks have consistently been a significant challenge limiting the development of additive manufactured nickel-based *** is essential to investigate the location of cracks and their forming *** study extensively examines the impact of solidification process,microstructural evolution,and stress concentration on crack initiation during direct energy deposition(DED).The results emphasize that the crack formation is significantly related to large-angle grain boundaries,rapid cooling *** caused by large-angle grain boundaries and a fast-cooling rate predominantly appear near the edge of the deposited *** cracks are more likely to form near the top of the deposited sample,due to the presence ofγ/γ'*** secondary dendritic arm and the carbides in the interdendritic regions can obstruct liquid flow during the final stage of solidification,which results in the formation of solidification cracks and *** work paves the way to avoid cracks in nickel-based superalloys fabricated by DED,thereby enhancing the performance of superalloys.
