Control of disability glare by means of electrochromic filtering glasses:A pilot study

Purpose:To evaluate the potential clinical usability of a new prototype of ophthalmic blue light filters developed by using electrochromic technology in pseudophakic patients complaining of ***:A prototype of electrochromic device was developed,with a specific frame that enclosed an electronic driver that allowed personalizing its function for each patient.A pro-spective,observational case series study was performed to test *** patients who had un-dergone cataract surgery with clear intraocular lenses and complaining of glare were included in the *** outcome measures were the results obtained in the satisfaction questionnaire that was delivered to ***,visual acuity,contrast sensitivity,and reading ability data were evaluated with and without the prototype under diferent lighting conditions and different modes of the prototype after a complete month of *** transmittance was also ***:Visual acuity,contrast sensitivity and reading function did not change significantly with prototype *** main activity for which the prototype was used was *** one patient found that the dimming level was *** patients reported variable discomfort when passing tunnels,not sufficiently clear indoors,or put on and remove *** lenses slightly decreased their transmittance at the end of the ***:Glasses based on elect rochromic technology may be acceptable for outdoor/indoor use and for distance-near *** studies with larger samples must be conducted to confirm the clinical usability of these glasses.

Basin assemblages and tectonic evolution in the Bohai Gulfand its neighbors

According to multi- disciplinary research advances in recent years, three blocks which named Jiaoliao - Bohai block, central North China block and Ordos block are divided. The differences of the tectonic association, types, styles and features in the space, and evolution from Archaean to Cenozoic in the time, between the former two blocks are discussed. Tectonic features and evolution in the four tectonic stages of Precambrian, indo- China, Yanshanian and Cenozoic are emphasized especially here. All of them described above have inherit and neogenic property. The temporal-spatial change and interaction among basin assemblages in the above four stages are analyzed. Escape tectonic model is employed to interpret coeval compressive and extensional basins in the study area.

Analysis of interrelationship between pedestrian flow parameters using artificial neural network

Pedestrian flow parameters are analysed in this study considering linear and non-linear relationships between stream flow parameters using conventional and soft computing approach. Speed-density relationship serves as a fundamental relationship, Single-regime con- cepts and deterministic models like Greenshield and Underwood were applied in the study to describe bidirec- tional flow characteristics on sidewalks and carriageways around transport terminals in India. Artificial Neural Net- work （ANN） approach is also used for traffic flow mod- elling to build a relationship between different pedestrian flow parameters. A non-linear model based on ANN is suggested and compared with the other deterministic models. Out of the aforesaid models, ANN model demonstrated good results based on accuracy measure- ment. Also these ANN models have an advantage in terms of their self-processing and intelligent behaviour. Flow parameters are estimated by ANN model using MFD （Macroscopic Fundamental Diagram）. Estimated mean absolute error （MAE） and root mean square error （RMSE）values for the best fitted ANN model are 3.83 and 4.73 m/ min, respectively, less than those for the other models for sidewalk movement. Further estimated MAE and RMSE values of ANN model for carriageway movement are 4.02 and 4.98 m/min, respectively, which are comparatively less than those of the other models. ANN model gives better performance in fitness of model and future prediction of flow parameters. Also when using linear regression model between observed and estimated values for speed and flow parameters, performance of ANN model gives better fitness to predict data as compared to deterministic model. R value for speed data prediction is 0.756 and for flow data pre- diction is 0.997 using ANN model at sidewalk movement around transport terminal.

Climate change adaptation, greenhouse gas mitigation and economic profitability of conservation agriculture: Some examples from cereal systems of indo-Gangetic Plains

Achieving sustainability of the cereal system in the indo-Gangetic Plains（IGP）of India under progressive climate change and variability necessitates adoption of practices and technologies that increase food production,adaptation and mitigation in a sustainable *** paper examines conservation agriculture（CA）from the perspective of：（i）increased yield and farm income,（ii）adaptation to heat and water stresses,and（iii）reduction in greenhouse gas（GHGs）*** analyses and conclusions are based on the literature and evidences from a large number of on-station as well as farmers’field trials on CA in the cereal systems of *** analyses show that CA-based system substantially reduces the production cost（up to 23%）but produces equal or even higher than conventional system;thereby increasing economic profitability of production ***-based production systems also moderated the effect of high temperature（reduced canopy temperature by 1–4°C）and increased irrigation water productivity by 66–100%compared to traditional production systems thus well adapting to water and heat stress situations of *** continuous monitoring of soil flux of CO2,N2O and CH4 revealed that CA-based rice-wheat systems emit 10–15%less GHGs than conventional *** is the first time that CA and its components are synthesized and analyzed from food security-climate change *** this holistic analysis,we suggest that wide-scale promotion of suitable CA practices by integrating into national agriculture development strategy is a way forward to address food security,climate change adaptation and mitigation challenges faced by present agriculture.

Immunoelectron Microscopy for Locating Calvin Cycle Enzymes in the Thylakoids of Synechocystis 6803

Unicellular cyanobacteria Synechocystis 6803 were fixed using high-pressure freezing （HPF） and freeze substitution without any chemical cross-linkers. Immunoelectron microscopy of these cells showed that five sequential enzymes of the Calvin cycle （phosphoriboisomerase, phosphoribulokinase, ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase （RuBisCO）, 3-phosphoglyceratekinase and glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase） and the catalytic portion of the chloroplast H^＋-ATP synthase （CF1） are located adjacent to the thylakoid membranes. Cell-free extracts of Synechocystis were processed by ultracentrifugation to isolate thylakoid fractions sedimenting at 40 000, 90 000, and 150 000 g. Among these, the 150 000-g fraction showed the highest linked activity of the above five sequential Calvin cycle enzymes and also the highest coordinated activity of light and dark reactions as assessed by ribose-5-phosphate （R-5-P）＋ADP dependent CO2 fixation. Immunogold labeling of this membrane fraction confirmed the presence of the above five enzymes as well as the catalytic portion of the CF1 ATP synthase. Notably, the protein A-gold labeling of the thylakoids was observed without use of chemical cross-linkers and in spite of the normal washing steps used during standard immunolabeling. The results showed that soluble Calvin cycle enzymes might be organized along the thylakoid membranes.

Geological and tectonic analysis of the Eastern Himalayan basins has given rise to a decade-long debate on the geodynamic evolution of the Burmese terrane and on the extent of reorganization of the main SE Asia drainage ***,the influence of the Himalayan belt on the Central Myanmar Basin(CMB)system remains poorly documented,although it is key to providing more accurate models for the evolution of the Himalayan-Burmese *** this contribution,we present geochronological,isotopic and geochemical analysis from 2500 zircon,1700 titanite,700 rutile and 850 apatite detrital grains from fifteen Cenozoic siliciclastic samples and one Cretaceous igneous *** samples were collected within the fore-and back-arc basins of the Central Myanmar Basin domain(CMB)to constrain the provenance,maximum depositional ages,and depositional environments of the west Burma *** key lithological units,the Sadwingyi,Ketpanda,Wabo Chaung,Gwegon,Minwun,Padaung,Okmintaung and Irrawaddy formations have detrital age spectra spanning from the Miocene to *** entire data set has common age peaks at ca.20,40,60,90,100 Ma,with about 80%of the U–Pb ages younger than ca.140 Ma and only ca.1%of the grains predating ca.3.0 *** results shed light on the current ambiguities on the transport pathways of Himalayan detritus in the *** show that the fore-arc basin was open to the trench and fed by the unroofing of both the Wuntho Popa volcanic arc to the east and possibly from the Burmese basement and/or from Himalayan-derived Bengal Fan detritus to the west during the Eocene,from at least ca.44 Ma to before ca.39 *** show that the west Burma Terrane was partitioned into pull-apart basins such as the Minwun Basin,which during the Oligocene recorded the first evidence of a new source contribution into the CMB at ca.27 *** new source is characterized by detritus highly compatible with the SE Asia basement rocks,which we suggest corresponds to the initiation of t
