Inter-population variabilities in seed mass and germination of Panicum turgidum and Pennisetum divisum in the desert of Kuwait

Understanding variability in seed germination among populations is essential for planning an effective germplasm collection for restoration and conservation *** knowledge of germination and dormancy patterns among populations of desert grasses is crucial for determining the potential of the species and populations to be used for restoration and conservation as well as forage *** in seed germination of Panicum turgidum Forssk and Pennisetum divisum(Gmel.)*** the desert of Kuwait was evaluated in different populations in May *** of seed germination(25 seeds and 4 replicates)was conducted for each population at night/day temperatures of 15℃/20℃and 20℃/30℃under the following light condition:continuous darkness or 12 h/12 h light/*** showed that seed masses of both species strongly varied according to their seed provenances,and both species produced heavier seeds in population with a higher soil electrical *** germination percentage considerably varied between two species,and the variation in *** was greater(17%–49%)than that of ***(72%–93%).Germination percentage in *** was greater at high temperature(20℃/30℃)than at low temperature(15℃/20℃).However,temperature regimes had no effect on germination percentage of *** *** germination time of both species exhibited significant inter-population *** result is especially relevant to assure the selection of the best population of each species and the regeneration success of the *** this,inter-population variability also provides valuable information for enhancing our understanding of the mechanisms that regulate seed germination and how they might be related to seed provenance.

Understanding Hydrogen Redistribution During Steel Casting,and Its Effective Extraction by Thermally Induced Up-Hill Diffusion

A Systematic Review of Studies Addressing the Implementation of the Evidence-Based Whole-School Reform“Success for All”

Purpose:The effectiveness of the 14-component evidence-based whole-school reform Success for All(SfA)has been well established,but research on its implementation is limited although fidelity of implementation is vital for the effectiveness of such a *** review sheds light on this ***/Approach/Methods:A systematic literature review was conducted to acquire an overview of qualitative and quantitative aspects of SfA's implementation in primary schools as well as to identify stimulating and hindering factors when implementing *** studies,conducted in the United States and the United Kingdom,were included in this ***:Results indicate that 48% of schools implemented SfA at the minimal level,45% at a more advanced level,and 7% at an insufficient *** on the implementation for each of the 14 components was *** of the factors that affected implementation were hindering factors rather than stimulating *** successful implementation of this evidence-based program,the crucial factors appear to be leadership,fulfilling organizational conditions,staff development,and relentlessly implementing all 14 components ***/Value:This review shows that for an evidence-based program to be effective,implementation fidelity is a very serious concern,which needs to be addressed systematically.

The business success of the most important hotel company in Asia in the 20^(th) century,and therefore of its owners,the Kadoorie Family,is intertwined with the life of the only Spanish architect in the city of Huangpu.A long-forgotten story,its discovery reveals the interests,tastes and cultural mix of the multinational community that inhabited the most open city of the *** Lafuente García-Rojo(Madrid 1871-Shanghai 1931)worked uninterruptedly for the‘Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels Ltd.’(HSH)for ten years since *** that decade,he carried out interior renovations in eight HSH hotels in the cities of Shanghai,Hong Kong and Shameen in *** with that,he worked for many clients and introduced the Spanish neo-Arab style in several buildings which still stand today in the city under unknown *** professional career in China-linked to the HSH-is a case study of the cultural melting pot of the city of *** is nowadays a foot note in Shanghai's architecture history and yet he deserves a chapter of his own,and this article is the first step.

Origin,migration,and accumulation of carbon dioxide in the East Changde Gas Field,Songliao Basin,northeastern China

CO2reservoirs are widely distributed within the Yingcheng Formation in the Songliao Basin, but the extreme horizontal heterogeneity of CO2content causes difficulties in the exploration and exploitation of methane. Former studies have fully covered the lithology, structure, and distribution of the reservoirs high in CO2content, but few are reported about migration and accumulation of CO2. Using the East Changde Gas Field as an example, we studied the accumulation mechanisms of CO2 gas. Two original types of accumulation model are proposed in this study. The fault-controlled accumulation model refers to gas accumulation in the reservoir body that is cut by a basement fault(the West Xu Fault), allowing the hydrocarbon gas generated in the lower formation to migrate into the reservoir body through the fault, which results in a relatively lower CO2content. The volcanic conduit-controlled accumulation model refers to a reservoir body that is not cut by the basement fault, which prevents the hydrocarbon gas from being mixed in and leads to higher CO2contents. This conclusion provides useful theories for prediction of CO2distribution in similar basins and reservoirs.

20 ppm Anhydrous Ammonia Odor Agent Proposed for Hydrogen Fuel for Safe Detection of Leaks

Preferably 20 ppm anhydrous ammonia (NH3) is proposed to be added to hydrogen fuel (H) made from renewable energy sources (green hydrogen), so that H leaks may be easily detectable by smell, but not dangerously toxic. Including this odor agent, would allow H to be distributed safely in pipes, as required by law, and it would allow H to be safely stored, transported, and exported for sale, and widely commercialized. Further research is suggested to identify optimum pressure, temperature, and automated technique for injecting NH3 into H, and to chart the minimum concentration needed, as a function of temperature and humidity. An application to make hypersonic H burning aircraft safer for ground maintenance crews is proposed. An ability to make, store and distribute H, made from local sources of renewable energy, would reduce a need for fossil fuels, especially in poor, remote communities, where it could improve their economy by creating an export product for sale, while reducing pollution.

Poverty Reduction and Pattern of Chronic Childhood Under-Nutrition in India: How Far Does the Link Exist?

In spite of an established link between poverty and under-nutrition in India, fall in under-nutrition is sluggish with fall in poverty. This research paper aims to seek answer on the effect of poverty decline on child under-nutrition in India over a period of one and a half decades. After examining the extent of association between poverty reduction and reciprocal changes in child under-nutrition, the paper found that although there was a definite influence of poverty levels on child under-nutrition at the state-level, the strength of the impact was not very high. This possibly explains why improvements in nutritional status among children have failed to keep up pace with steady reduction in mass poverty across the states in the last couple of decades. The results also strongly reiterate the magnificent role of child’s healthcare utilization and higher public spending which can help to capitalize on the increase in economic capabilities at the household level, resulting from robust economic growth and alleviation of endemic poverty.

Ex Ante Inequality and Under-Nutrition Vulnerability Dynamics: Case Study of the Sundarbans Delta Region, West Bengal, India

In this paper ex ante inequality measure is used to estimate inequality in childhood chronic under-nutrition among different vulnerable subgroups. Ex ante inequality in nutritional achievement is determined by estimating Concentration Index by ranking the sample population as per different contextual absolute and predicted vulnerabilities. Such vulnerabilities include climatic shock induced asset loss, livelihood insecurity, physical accessibility and consumption sacrifice after treatment seeking of children for under-nutrition related morbidities and perception of care givers regarding quality and effectiveness of care provided by unqualified providers. Results found that vulnerability to consumption poverty aggravated chronic under-nutrition among less vulnerable groups mainly among those who perceived that unqualified providers provided quality service and were very effective during crisis. Whereas, vulnerability to investment poverty due to asset loss aggravates chronic under-nutrition among more vulnerable groups as their low economic resilience against any safety net results in no treatment seeking but rely on home remedies to cure the child. Though due to good social cohesion, traditional knowledge and beliefs for treatment are shared among each other but this is not sufficient to break the under-nutrition morbidity vicious circle, especially when the under-nutrition is chronic in nature. So the paper finally suggests several policy suggestions for different vulnerable segments.
