Quaternary Activity Characteristics and Regional Tectonic Significance of the Jiulong Fault in Jiujiang,Jiangxi Province,China

Obtaining geological and landform dislocation features,as well as the measured stratigraphic activity age,provides direct evidence to evaluate fault activity,which is more difficult to do in areas with low tectonic activity,such as eastern and central China.A detailed investigation of the fault activity,trenching,drilling joint geological profile,geological survey,and chronological analysis were used to obtain the spatial geometry,fault kinematics,and activity chronology of the Jiulong *** conclusions are as follows:(1)The Jiulong fault was a fracture zone composed of four branch faults,with a width of around 30–40 m and good extendibility,while the maximum surface rupture length was 373 m.(2)The Jiulong fault has many strata dislocations,and the dislocation distance decreased from bottom to top,demonstrating synsedimentary structure characteristics,with a maximum stratigraphic dislocation distance of 18.2 m.(3)Preliminary analysis suggested the Jiulong fault as a secondary fracture of the Xiangfan-Guangji fault zone and provided evidence of the southeastward extension of the Xiangfan-Guangji fault.A preliminary hypothesis purported the Xiangfan-Guangji fault as the seismogenic fault of the Ms 5.0 magnitude earthquake in 1911.(4)According to OSL and ESR dating analyses,the upper breakpoint of the Jiulong fault cuts into the Late Pleistocene Xingang Formation(Qp3x)strata,and the latest active age of the Jiulong fault was 57.6 *** chronology analysis confirmed an active fault from the Late Pleistocene and identified a weak tectonic in Jiujiang Province,which represents the largest active fault outcrop uncovered in the area so *** study provides evidence and research materials for the evaluation of fault activity and seismic stability in this region.

Discovery and characterization of a new hydrothermal field at 2°N on the slow-spreading Carlsberg Ridge

A new hydrothermal field(Tianshi)was discovered on the rift valley wall through plume anomaly surveys and geological work conducted in 2012 and 2018 between 2°35′N and 2°43′N of the slow-spreading Carlsberg Ridge(CR).Here,the results of two expeditions conducted to detect and characterize the new hydrothermal field are *** and geochemical data,as well as 14 C ages of a sediment core collected near the field are presented to reveal the hydrothermal *** show that the Tianshi field is a basalt-hosted hydrothermal *** data of the sediments collected near the field indicate a strong hydrothermal contribution,and hydrothermal Fe and Cu fluxes range from 30 to 155 mg/(cm^(2)·ka)and 0.59 to 11.49 mg/(cm^(2)·ka),*** variations in the fluxes of hydrothermal Fe indicate that there have been at least three amplified hydrothermal venting events(H 1,H 2,and H 3)in the Tianshi field over the last 35.2 ka,in 28.6-35.2 ka BP,22.0-27.6 ka BP,and 1.2-11.4 ka BP,*** event H 2 was driven by an increased magmatic production associated with sea level fall during the Last Glacial Maximum,while event H 3 was promoted by tectonic activity associated with a rapid sea level *** study further verified the role of sea level change in modulating hydrothermal activity on mid-ocean ridges.

Coniopteris simplex is a common component in many Jurassic ***,due to morphological variations in sterile fronds and incomplete preservation of reproductive organs,its classification has been controversial for a long ***,we present new material collected from the Middle Jurassic Yan’an Formation in the Ordos Basin,Inner *** new material reveals important morphological characters,including hemi-dimorphic fronds,two forms of sterile pinnae,short-stalked sori and sporangia on fertile fronds,annulus of sporangium composed of about 30 cells,in situ rounded triangular spores with protruded suture,and the lips of trilete laesura encircled by one or two rows of small *** on these observations,we emended the diagnosis of this common *** spatio-temporal distribution of Coniopteris simplex shows that the iconic species was restricted to the paleolatitudes ranging from 19.5°N to 48.9°N in the Northern Hemisphere during the Early—Late Jurassic,mainly distributed in the tropical to paratropical zones,and the paleolongitude ranging from 9.6°E to 129.3°E,which may be limited by the opening of the Viking Corridor and the splitting of the Central Atlantic Ocean.

Large-scale model testing of high-pressure grouting reinforcement for bedding slope with rapid-setting polyurethane

Bedding slope is a typical heterogeneous slope consisting of different soil/rock layers and is likely to slide along the weakest interface. Conventional slope protection methods for bedding slopes, such as retaining walls, stabilizing piles, and anchors, are time-consuming and labor-and energyintensive. This study proposes an innovative polymer grout method to improve the bearing capacity and reduce the displacement of bedding slopes. A series of large-scale model tests were carried out to verify the effectiveness of polymer grout in protecting bedding slopes. Specifically, load-displacement relationships and failure patterns were analyzed for different testing slopes with various dosages of polymer. Results show the great potential of polymer grout in improving bearing capacity, reducing settlement, and protecting slopes from being crushed under shearing. The polymer-treated slopes remained structurally intact, while the untreated slope exhibited considerable damage when subjected to loads surpassing the bearing capacity. It is also found that polymercemented soils concentrate around the injection pipe, forming a fan-shaped sheet-like structure. This study proves the improvement of polymer grouting for bedding slope treatment and will contribute to the development of a fast method to protect bedding slopes from landslides.

Late Triassic Intracontinental Deformation of South Tianshan,Central Asia:Evidence from Syn-tectonic Sedimentation and Detrital Zircon Provenances of the Kuqa Depression

The Tianshan range,a Paleozoic orogenic belt in Central Asia,has undergone multiple phases of tectonic activities characterized by the N-S compression after the early Mesozoic,including the far-field effects of the Cenozoic Indian-Asian ***,there are limited reports on the tectonic deformation and initiation of Triassic intracontinental deformation in the Tianshan *** this structural context is crucial for interpreting the early intracontinental deformation history of the Eurasian continent during the early *** strata and syn-tectonic sediments provide a rich source of information on tectonic activities and have been extensively used in the studies of orogenic *** on detail fieldwork conducted in this study,the middle-late Triassic Kelamayi Formation of the northern Kuqa Depression in the southern Tianshan fold-thrust belt has been identified as the typical syn-tectonic growth *** youngest detrital zircon component in two lithic sandstone samples from the bottom and top of the Kelamayi growth strata yielded U-Pb ages of 223.4±3.1 and 215.5±2.9 Ma,respectively,indicating that the maximum depositional age of the bottom and top of the Kelamayi growth strata is 226-220 and 218-212 *** geochronological distribution of detrital samples from the Early-Middle Triassic and Late Triassic revealed abrupt changes,suggesting a new source supply resulting from tectonic activation in the Tianshan *** coupling relationship between the syn-tectonic sedimentation of the Kelamayi Formation and the South Tianshan fold-thrust system provides robust evidence that the Triassic intracontinental deformation of the South Tianshan range began at approximately 226-220 Ma(during the Late Triassic)and ended at approximately 218-212 *** findings provide crucial constraints for understanding the intraplate deformation in the Tianshan range during the Triassic.

The aim of this study is to investigate the impacts of the sampling strategy of landslide and non-landslide on the performance of landslide susceptibility assessment(LSA).The study area is the Feiyun catchment in Wenzhou City,Southeast *** types of landslides samples,combined with seven non-landslide sampling strategies,resulted in a total of 14 *** corresponding landslide susceptibility map(LSM)for each scenario was generated using the random forest *** receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve and statistical indicators were calculated and used to assess the impact of the dataset sampling *** results showed that higher accuracies were achieved when using the landslide core as positive samples,combined with non-landslide sampling from the very low zone or buffer *** results reveal the influence of landslide and non-landslide sampling strategies on the accuracy of LSA,which provides a reference for subsequent researchers aiming to obtain a more reasonable LSM.

Thermal and exhumation history of the Songnan Low Uplift,Qiongdongnan Basin:constraints from the apatite fission-track and zircon(U-Th)/He thermochronology

Significant advancements have been made in the study of Mesozoic granite buried hills in the Songnan Low Uplift(SNLU)of the Qiongdongnan *** findings indicate that the bedrock buried hills in this basin hold great potential for *** samples taken from the granite buried hills in the SNLU were analyzed using apatite fission track(AFT)and zircon(U-Th)/He data to unravel the thermal history of the basement *** information is crucial for understanding the processes of exhumation and alteration that occurred after its *** modeling of a sample from the western bulge of the SNLU revealed a prolonged cooling event from the late Mesozoic to the Oligocene period(~80-23.8 Ma),followed by a heating stage from the Miocene epoch until the present(~23.8 Ma to present).In contrast,the sample from the eastern bulge experienced a more complex thermal *** underwent two cooling stages during the late Mesozoic to late Eocene period(~80-36.4 Ma)and the late Oligocene period(~30-23.8 Ma),interspersed with two heating phases during the late Eocene to early Oligocene period(~36.4-30 Ma)and the Miocene epoch to recent times(~23.8-0 Ma),*** differences in exhumation histories between the western and eastern bulges during the late Eocene to Oligocene period in the SNLU can likely be attributed to differences in fault *** typical passive continental margin basins,the SNLU has experienced accelerated subsidence after the rifting phase,which began around 5.2 Ma *** possible mechanism for this abnormal post-rifting subsidence may be the decay or movement of the deep thermal source and the rapid cooling of the ***-term and multi-episodic cooling and exhumation processes play a key role in the alteration of bedrock and contribute to the formation of *** the other hand,rapid post-rifting subsidence(sedimentation)promotes the formation of cap rocks.

Provenance of Upper Jurassic in North Yellow Sea Basin， Eastern North China Craton

Base on the detrital zircon U-Pb dating data， this paper discusses the provenance and constructs source-to-sink system of the Upper Jurassic in the North Yellow Sea Basin (NYSB)， Eastern North China Craton (ENCC). In addition， to avoid the bias of detrital zircon ages caused by variations in zircon fertility， we gather 1709 whole rock zirconium content values (ppm) from granitic rocks with different ages in the North China Craton (NCC). Base on mean Zr content of granitic rocks in each age， these granitic rocks can be divided into four groups: Group A consists of Jurassic， Group B consists of Paleozoic， Neo-Mesoproterozoic and Neoarchean， Group C consists of Early Cretaceous and Triassic， and Group D consists of Paleoproterozoic. This research assigns these groups zircon fertility factors (ZFF) of 1， 1.4， 1.8 and 2.2. The U-Pb age of detrital zircons from Late Jurassic sediments corrected by ZFF are statistically analyzed (K-S test， Similarity， Cross-correlation， Linkeness， Multidimensional scaling). And combining with palaeocurrent and palaeogeography， we construct two source-to-sink systems: 1) Jiaodong Uplift and Sulu Orogenic belt as the source area and the North Yellow Sea Basin as the sink area; 2) Liaodong Peninsula as the source area and the North Yellow Sea Basin as the sink area.

Evolution of the Mangrove Wetland since the Holocene: Current Progress and Future Perspectives

Mangrove wetlands are among the four most productive tropical and subtropical ecosystems. They are also a core component of the coastal blue carbon ecosystem, which is of great ecological significance to human beings, plants, animals, and the global carbon balance. There has been a global decrease in the distribution of mangrove forests, and their ecological function has gradually degenerated since the Holocene. Sediment from coastal mangrove wetlands can provide records of climate change and human activities, and multiple proxies including palynology, leaf fossil, biomarkers, DNA, phytolith and stable isotopes, can be used to reconstruct the evolutionary stages of paleo-mangroves and to identify the effect of natural processes and human activities on the distribution and evolution of mangroves. This information can provide theoretical support for mangrove protection and for improving carbon sequestration capacity. This paper summarizes and compares the multiple proxies for mangrove reconstruction, reviews progress in the study of natural succession of global mangroves since the Holocene, expands on the influence mechanisms of human activities on mangrove growth and development and uses past information to lay a foundation for a model to predict future mangrove development.

Bobai Hakka weaving:Plant diversity,traditional culture,and a model for rural revitalization

The Hakka people, a branch of the Han ethnic group with their own language, culture, and customs, are one of the largest immigrant groups worldwide, primarily distributed in southern China. Bobai, a county with the largest Hakka population globally, has a thriving weaving industry that is one of the local pillar industries. This study aimed to systematically analyze the plant source, product function, and development model of Bobai Hakka weaving. The study recorded 33 plant species for weaving, which belonged to 17 families and 27 genera. The weaving plants were mainly bamboo, rattan, herbs, and wood, with herbs being the most commonly used(15 species, 45.5%). Most weaving plants were obtained locally(16 species, 48.5%) and from wild sources(13 species, 39.4%). Stems were the most commonly used plant parts(66.7%) in local weaving, followed by leaf sheaths, inflorescence stems, leaves, stem bark, leaf rachis, and female bracts. Additionally, wastes from crops such as wheat, rice, bananas, and corn, as well as invasive water hyacinths, were widely used as weaving materials by the local Hakka people. The products 'functions ranged from household appliances, cultural and entertainment products, furniture, to production tools, reflecting a range of conventional cultural connotations. The study found that the Bobai Hakka weaving industry had integrated modern elements and additional use value to expand its market appeal. With the participation of the government, enterprises, and farmers, the Bobai weaving industry has formed a development model of “ intangible cultural heritage+industry+poverty alleviation ”, which has become a successful case of poverty alleviation and rural revitalization.
