We present in this paper a new method for solving polynomial eigenvalue problem. We give methods that decompose a skew-Hamiltonian matrix using Cholesky like-decomposition. We transform first the polynomial eigenvalue problem to an equivalent skew-Hamiltonian/Hamiltonian pencil. This process is known as linearization. Decomposition of the skew-Hamiltonian matrix is the fundamental step to convert a structured polynomial eigenvalue problem into a standard Hamiltonian eigenproblem. Numerical examples are given.

Partial epilepsies, originating in a specific brain region, affect about 60% of adults with epilepsy. Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is the most prevalent subtype within this category, often necessitating surgical intervention due to its refractoriness to antiepileptic drugs (AEDs). Hippocampal sclerosis, a common underlying pathology, often exacerbates the severity by introducing cognitive and emotional challenges. This review delves deeper into the cognitive profile of TLE, along with the risk factors for cognitive disorders, depression, and anxiety in this population.

Detection of Accidental Fish Defrosting Using Non-Destructive Ultrasonic Technique

A non invasive ultrasonic method is used to detect whether or not the frozen fish has suffered a partial or total accidental thawing. The time of flight and the peak to peak amplitude of the ultrasonic signals backscattered by fish are recorded during thawing. The comparison of the evolution curves and images corresponding to first and second thawing shows indicators of accidental thawing. The monitoring of thawing process showed that its assessment can be reduced to the measurement of the water content lost by fish. The attempt to replace the original water lost by fish in first thawing is analyzed. The influence of the transducer frequency on fish thawing evaluation is tested.

Risk factors for liver fibrosis among human immunodeficiency virus monoinfected patients using the FIB4 index in Morocco

AIM: To study the prevalence and risk factors of significant hepatic fibrosis in Moroccan human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) monoinfected ***: We conducted a cross-sectional study among HIV monoinfected patients(negative for hepatitis B surface antigen and hepatitis C antibody). Clinical and laboratory data were collected from the data base of the Infectious Diseases Unit in ibn Rochd Hospital Center [age, gender, duration of HIV infection, CD4 T lymphocyte count, HIV viral load, glycemia and current or prior use of antiretroviral and antiretroviral therapy(ART) duration]. The primary outcome was a FIB4score > 1.45. Multivariable logistic regression identifiedindependent risk factors for FIB4 > ***: A FIB4 score > 1.45 was identified in 96among 619(15.5%). HIV monoinfected patients followed up between September 1990 and September2012. Multivariate analysis showed that only a viral load > 75(OR = 2.23, 95%CI: 1.36-3.67), CD4 > 200cells/mm3(OR = 0.39, 95%CI: 0.21-0.72) and age at FIB4 index calculation(OR = 1.10, 95%CI: 1.07-1.13)were independently associated with the occurrence of FIB4 index(> 1.45). Gender, duration of HIV infection,glycemia, use of antiretroviral therapy and ART duration were not associated with significant fibrosis by ***: FIB4 score > 1.45 was found in 15.5%of Moroccan HIV monoinfected patients. Age, HIV viremia > 75 copies/mL and CD4 count > 200 cells/mm3are associated with liver fibrosis. Further studies are needed to explore mechanisms for fibrosis in HIV monoinfected patients.

The phase diagram and thermodynamic properties of the Sc-Au system were carried out by means of the CALPHAD(calculation of phase diagrams)method through Thermo-Calc software package on the basis of the experimental data of phase equilibria and thermodynamic proprieties from the published literature *** excess Gibbs energies functions of the solution phases including liquid,face–centered cubic fcc_A1,body-centered hexagonal close–packed hcp_3 and cubic bcc_A2,modeled with Redlich-Kister polynomials functions while all intermetallic compounds have been treated as stoichiometric *** thermodynamic parameters describing various phases in the Sc-Au binary system were finally obtained,and a good agreement is achieved between the calculated results and the reported experimental data.

Polypropylene （PP） matrix composites reinforced with chemically treated Almond Shell （AS） particles with and without compatibilizer （PP-g-MA） was prepared by a twin-screw extrusion at loading of 20 wt.% AS particles. Two types of chemical treatments （alkali treatment with sodium hydroxide and etherification with dodecane bromide） of the particles were carried out to improve the interface adhesion between particles and PP matrix. Results show that chemical modifications of AS particles affect the mechanical and viscoelastic properties of AS/PP composites. The composites reinforced with alkali treated particles and the compatibilized matrix lead to a notable increase in the Young＇s modulus （14%） compared to the composites with untreated AS particles. The ductility of composite was also evaluated by the yield strain, and results show a notable increase （31%） compared to that of composites with untreated particles. The thermal stability increased with the use of etherification （385 ℃）, with gains in the temperature up to 23 ℃ compared to neat PP （362 ℃）. The achieved results show that the AS/PP composites can be used in several applications. A thermoplastic matrix compsite mixed with treated AS particles appears to be a good alternative to obtain environmentally friendly products.
