Broadband mid-infrared(IR)supercontinuum laser sources are essential for spectroscopy in the molecular fingerprint ***,we report generation of octave-spanning and coherent mid-IR supercontinua in As_(2)S_(3)-silica nanospike hybrid waveguides pumped by a custom-built 2.8μm femtosecond fiber *** waveguides are formed by pressure-assisted melt-filling of molten As_(2)S_(3) into silica capillaries,allowing the dispersion and nonlinearity to be precisely *** coherent spectra spanning from 1.1μm to 4.8μm(30 dB level)are observed when the waveguide is designed so that 2.8μm lies in the anomalous dispersion ***,linearly tapered millimeter-scale As_(2)S_(3)-silica waveguides are fabricated and investigated for the first time,to the best of our knowledge,showing much broader supercontinua than uniform waveguides,with improved spectral *** waveguides are demonstrated to be long-term stable and water-resistant due to the shielding of the As_(2)S_(3) by the fused silica *** offer an alternative route to generating broadband mid-IR supercontinua,with applications in frequency metrology and molecular spectroscopy,especially in humid and aqueous environments.

BACKGROUND There are no studies on incidental anal ^18F-fluorodeoxyglucose(^18FDG)*** To assess the rate and aetiologies of incidental anal ^18FDG uptake and to evaluate the correlation between ^18FDG positron-emission tomography/computed tomography(PET/CT)parameters and the diagnosis of an anorectal *** The data from patients with incidental anal ^18FDG uptake were retrospectively *** who underwent anorectal examinations were identified and compared to those who did not undergo *** who were offered treatment were then identified and compared to those who did not receive *** Among the 43020^18FDG PET/CT scans performed,197^18FDG PET/CT scans of 146 patients(0.45%)reported incidental anal *** the 134 patients included,48(35.8%)patients underwent anorectal examinations,and anorectal diseases were diagnosed in 33(69.0%)of these patients and treated in ^18/48(37.5%)*** the examined patients,those with a pathology requiring treatment had significantly smaller metabolic volumes(MV)30 and MV41 values and higher maximal and mean standardized uptake value measurements than those who did not require *** Incidental anal ^18FDG uptake is rare,but a reliable anorectal diagnosis is commonly obtained when an anorectal examination is *** diagnosis of an anorectal disease induces treatment in more than one-third of the *** data should encourage practitioners to explore incidental anal ^18FDG uptake systematically.

Microbial associates are widespread in insects,some conferring a protection to their hosts against natural enemies like *** protective symbionts may affect the infection success of the parasitoid by modifying behavioral defenses of their hosts,the development success of the parasitoid by conferring a resistance against it or by altering life-history traits of the emerging ***,we assessed the effects of different protective bacterial symbionts on the entire sequence of the host-parasitoid interaction(i.e.,from parasitoid attack to offspring emergence)between the pea aphid,Acyrthosiphon pisum,and its main parasitoid,Aphidius ervi and their impacts on the life-history traits of the emerging *** test whether symbiont-mediated phenotypes were general or specific to particular aphid-symbiont associations,we considered several aphid lineages,each harboring a different strain of either Hamiltonella defensa or Regiella insecticola,two protective symbionts commonly found in *** found that symbiont species and strains had a weak effect on the ability of aphids to defend themselves against the parasitic wasps during the attack and a strong effect on aphid resistance against parasitoid *** parasitism resistance was mainly determined by symbionts,their effects on host defensive behaviors varied from one aphid-symbiont association to ***,the symbiotic status of the aphid individuals had no impact on the attack rate of the parasitic wasps,the parasitoid emergence rate from parasitized aphids nor the life-history traits of the emerging ***,no correlations between symbiont effects on the different stages of the host-parasitoid interaction was observed,suggesting no trade-offs or positive associations between symbiont-mediated *** study highlights the need to consider various sequences of the host-parasitoid interaction to better assess the outcomes of protective symbioses and understand the

Intraspecific competition at the larval stage is an important ecological factor affecting life-history,adaptation and evolutionary trajectory in holometabolous ***,the molecular pathways underpinning these ecological processes are poorly *** reared Drosophila melanogaster at three egg densities(5,60,and 300 eggs/mL)and sequenced the transcriptomes of pooled third-instar *** also examined emergence time,egg-to-adult viability,adult mass,and adult sex-ratio at each *** crowding had minor detrimental effects on adult phenotypes compared to low density and yielded 24 differentially expressed genes(DEGs),including several chitinase *** contrast,high crowding had substantial detrimental effects on adult phenotypes and yielded 2107 *** these,upregulated gene sets were enriched in sugar,steroid and amino acid metabolism as well as DNA replication pathways,whereas downregulated gene sets were enriched in ABC transporters,taurine,Toll/Imd signaling,and P450 xenobiotics metabolism ***,our findings show that larval crowding has a large consistent effect on several molecular pathways(i.e.,core responses)with few pathways displaying density-specific regulation(i.e.,idiosyncratic responses).This provides important insights into how holometabolous insects respond to intraspecific competition during development.

In this paper, I suggest that, even more than the state, capitalist enterprise is the most influential institution of neoliberalism, both for the effect it conveys in terms of management in public institutions (New Public Management) and its influence on the subjectivity of neoliberal individuals. However, one could stress, from the perspective of economic theory of the firm, the neoliberal transformations of the capitalist enterprises itself. Two transformations that are taking place from the 1980s seem particularly important. The first is the firm’s transformation in a “nexus of contracts” as claimed by the agency theory of Jensen and Meckling that describe and enable the current financialization of the economy. The second is the transformation of organisations in a “nexus of skills” as claimed by the cognitive paradigm of the firm that apply to the company economic reasoning in terms of “human capital”. I then examine the effects on neoliberal subjectivation of these two major changes, from the labour point of view. First, the neoliberal subject imagines, describes and manages itself as the subject of investment in “human capital”. Second, the disappearance of traditional employment contract corresponds to the emergence and intensification of another form of contract, the “psychological contract”, which tends to become a major form of relationship-employed but also a model for relationships between individuals. Finally, lifelong learning is becoming the major form of empowerment of employees, but also a “lifestyle” based on the appreciation of one’s own human capital and the infinite task of perfecting oneself to match up our “skills portfolio” with the labour market. These transformations of neoliberal subjectivity have costs that can be summarised by the widespread phenomena of burn out, but also the birth of a new form of racism, based on “quality” of human capital (skills, abilities, capabilities).

SHRIMP Dating and Recrystallization of Metamorphic Zircons from a Granitic Gneiss in the Sulu UHP Terrane

An unusual zircon SHRIMP dating result of a granitic gneiss from the Qinglongshan eclogite-gneiss roadcut section is presented in this paper. The very peculiar and complicated internal structures, as well as the very low Th/U ratios (0.01-0.08) of the zircons indicate that they were formed by metamorphic recrystallization. Strongly in contrast with previously published zircon U-Pb ages of the Dabie-Sulu UHP metamorphic rocks where protolith ages of 600-800 Ma are commonly recorded, only metamorphic age of 218±5 Ma, defined by 18 analytical spots either in rim or in core of zircons, are recorded in this granitic gneiss. This age represents the time of the complete metamorphic recrystallization overprint on primary magmatic zircons. The recrystallization was derived by the UHP metamorphism, and was strengthened by the early stage of retrograde metamorphic fluid activity.

The information-carrying programmable metasurfaces have found widespread applications in communication, sensing, and other related areas. However, there is a fundamental but unresolved problem,i.e., the rigorous understanding of the quantization of metasurface coding. Here, we theoretically investigate the performance difference between one-bit and continuous information-encoding metasurfaces. To this end,we derive analytical representations of system responses in various cases(single-input single-output, singleinput multiple-output, and multiple-input multiple-output). We analyze the impact of one-bit coding(in contrast to continuous coding) in terms of the resulting channel cross-talk and reduction of information capacity in various representative scenarios from wireless communication and holography. Our main finding indicates that the one-bit coding yields a satisfactory performance in most practical scenarios; we also show that in many cases there are smart ways to mildly relax optimization constraints in order to reduce the performance gap between the one-bit and continuous coding. We expect that our results can provide theoretical guidance for a large variety of metasurface-assisted information systems for electromagnetic waves and other wave phenomena.
