When the cells were treated simutaneously with procaine (2 mM) and hyperthermia (42℃) for one hour the killing of L-CFU was enhanced considerably whereas GM-CFU were not markedly affected. These data Indicate that the combined treatment with procain and hyperthermia might offer an efficient mean to selectively purge residual leukemlc cells in vitro. Procaine with hyperthermia may have a role in clinical autoiogous bone marrow transplantation for acute leukemia.

The study of the relationship between animal stress and personality for free-ranging animals is limited and provides contrasting *** perception of stressors by an individual may vary due to its personality,and certain personality traits may help individuals to better cope with *** non-invasive infrared thermography(IRT),we investigated the link between physiological and behavioral components expressed during an acute stress event by free-ranging Fremont’s squirrels(Tamiasciurus fremonti).We expected that,during the acute stress event of being approached by the researcher,individuals that showed a fast pace-of-life syndrome(bolder,more active,and less social/more aggressive)based on an arena test would exhibit stronger sympathetic-adrenal-medullary system reactivity showing a more intense stress-induced hyperthermia(high core body temperature and low peripheral temperature)than individuals with a slow pace of life(shy,less active,and more social).We successfully employed IRT technology to images of Fremont’s squirrels with identification of the individuals’body parts(eye,nose,ear,hind foot).However,we found no support for our ***’body surface temperatures told us more about a squirrel’s external environment and less about the thermal state of the body in that environment following a stressful *** studies need to assess how to make IRT effective and efficient in the field and improve its performance in studying the relationships between physiology and personality in wildlife.

BACKGROUND Several studies report the useful therapeutic results of regional hyperthermia in association with chemotherapy(CHT) and radiotherapy for the treatment of pancreatic cancer. Modulated electrohyperthermia(mEHT) is a new hyperthermia technique that induces immunogenic death or apoptosis of pancreatic cancer cells in laboratory experiments and increases tumor response rate and survival in pancreatic cancer patients, offering beneficial therapeutic effects against this severe type of *** To assess survival, tumor response and toxicity of mEHT alone or combined with CHT compared with CHT for the treatment of locally advanced or metastatic pancreatic *** This was a retrospective data collection on patients affected by locally advanced or metastatic pancreatic cancer(stage Ⅲ and IV) performed in 9 Italian centers, members of International Clinical hyperthermia Society-Italian Network. This study included 217 patients, 128(59%) of them were treated with CHT(no-mEHT) and 89(41%) patients received mEHT alone or in association with CHT. mEHT treatments were performed applying a power of 60-150 watts for 40-90 min, simultaneously or within 72 h of administration of *** Median patients’ age was 67 years(range 31-92 years). mEHT group had a median overall survival greater than non-mEHT group(20 mo, range 1.6-24, vs 9 mo, range 0.4-56.25, P < 0.001). mEHT group showed a higher number of partial responses(45% vs 24%, P = 0.0018) and a lower number of progressions(4% vs 31%, P < 0.001) than the no-mEHT group, at the three months follow-up. Adverse events were observed as mild skin burns in 2.6% of mEHT *** mEHT seems safe and has beneficial effects on survival and tumor response of stage Ⅲ-IV pancreatic tumor treatment. Further randomized studies are warranted to confirm or not these results.

The pursuit of this paper is to collect principal reviews and systematic reviews about hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy(HIPEC) and cytoreductive surgery(CRS) used in colorectal cancer(CRC).We focus on principal biological aspects of CRC,hyperthermia effects,and surgical *** searched PubMed/MEDLINE for the principal reviews and systematic reviews published from 2010 to 2021 regarding the bimodal treatment(CRS + HIPEC) against local and advanced *** the literature,from several studies,it seems that the efficacy of bimodal treatment with an accurate CRS can extend overall *** these studies,there are not still any straight guidelines more detailed and scheduled about the use of combined treatment in patients with *** if the concept is still not very clear and shared,after a careful evaluation of the published data,and after some technical and pathophysiological descriptions,we concluded that it is possible to improve the overall survival and quality of life and to reduce the tumor relapse in patients affected by locally advanced(pT4) CRC with peritoneal metastases.

AIM: To reduce postoperative complications and to make possible an optimal cytoreduction, neoadjuvant chemotherapy(NACT) followed by interval debulking surgery has been applied with encouraging results. METHODS: Between December 2009 and February 2012, patients with stage ⅢC-Ⅳ epithelial ovarian cancer(EOC) underwent diagnostic laparoscopy, to assess the feasibility of optimal debulking surgery. The modifi ed Fagotti score was applied to assess the feasibility of resection with zero residual tumor. Patients who were not candidate for upfront debulking surgery were submitted to NACT, then reassessed according to the RECIST 1.1 criteria and submitted to cytoreductive surgery(CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy(HIPEC) if they showed clinical response or stable disease. The remaining cycles of adjuvant systemic chemotherapy(ASCT) were administered postoperatively, to complete 6 cycles of systemic ***: Nine patients were included. Clinical response to NACT was complete in 3 patients and partial in 5 patients; one patient had stable disease. All patients underwent CRS resulting in CC0 disease prior to HIPEC. Average operative time was 510 min. Average intensive care unit stay was 2 d. Average postoperative hospital stay was 25 d. No postoperative mortality was observed. One patient experienced pelvic abscess. One patient refused ASCT. The remaining 8 patients started ASCT. Average time to chemotherapy was 36 d. All patients are alive, with an average follow up of 11 mo. Eight patients are disease-free at follow ***: HIPEC after CRS for advanced EOC is feasible with acceptable morbidity and mortality. NACT may increase the chance for achieving complete cytoreduction. Phase 3 studies are needed to determine the effects of HIPEC on survival.

Tumor-associated bacteria(TAB) play a critically important role in regulating the microenvironment of a tumor, which consequently greatly deteriorates the therapeutic effects by chemo-and radiotherapy deactivation and, more considerably, leads to substantial immunosuppression. On the contrary, herein we propose a nanocatalytic tumor-immunotherapeutic modality based on the bacteria disintegration by bacteria-specific oxidative damage under magnetic hyperthermia for highly effective immune response activation-promoted tumor regression. A monodispersed and superparamagnetic nanocatalytic medicine modified by arginyl-glycyl-aspartic acid(RGD) and(3-carboxypropyl)triphenylphosphonium bromide(TPP), named as MNP-RGD-TPP herein, has been synthesized, which features selective accumulation at the TAB by the electrostatic affinity, enabling effective TAB disintegration by the nanocatalytic Fenton reaction producing abundant cytotoxic hydroxyl radicals in situ under alternating magnetic field-induced hyperthermia. More importantly, the lipopolysaccharide has been metabolically secreted from the destructed TAB as pathogen-associated molecular patterns(PAMPs) to M1-polarize tumor-associated macrophages(TAMs) and promote the maturation of dendritic cells(DCs) for innate immuno-response activation of TAMs, followed by cytotoxic T lymphocytes awakening under the PAMPs presentation by the mature DCs against tumor cells. The integrated innate and adaptive immunity activations based on this TAB-promoted nanocatalytic immunomedicine, instead of magnetic heating-induced hyperthermia or the released Fe2+/Fe3+Fenton agent, has been found to achieve excellent therapeutic efficacy in an orthotopic colorectal cancer model, demonstrating the great potential of such an integrated immunity strategy in clinical tumor immunotherapy.

In this paper we report preliminary results of clinical trials in which 2 patients with gliomas of the brain were treated with a combination of surgery and microwave hyperthermia using invasive techniques, with a follow-up of more than one year. The method of treatment is discussed and the equipment, consisting of a 2.45 GHZ microwave genera tor and the antenna system, is described.
