This paper made the first records of taxa composition of protozoa in Lough Neagh,the largest freshwater lake in British Isles. One hundred and eight species(genus)were identified from the examinations of approximately 150 PFU artificial substrates and various types of natural substrate from May to December, 19g2. Of 108 species or genus,30 core species were found on PFU substrate and 17 on natural *** ecological characteristics of protozoa were studied by showing the variations of species richness and individual abundance as a function of season or water *** on PFU were compared at two sampling stations as well.

Dynamical decoupling (DD) eliminates qubit-bath coupling by applying a sequence of instantaneous *** qubit-bath couplings generally lead to qubit relaxation and dephasing,qubit-qubit couplings are often used to manipulate or control quantum *** investigate the available control operations in two DD schemes,named periodic DD (PDD) and Uhrig DD (UDD),to see whether universal quantum computation can be realized in these decoupled *** find that universal control is possible using Heisenberg interaction in both periodically decoupled system and Uhrig decoupled system,and the available control operations under two kinds of DD sequences obey the same commutation *** the UDD case,we also derive a rough bound for control errors.

A total of 10446 expressed sequence tags (ESTs) are obtained by a large scale sequencing of a cDNA library from cephalothorax of adult Fenneropenaeus chinensis . An EST analysis platform was built up based on local computers and bioinformatic techniques were used to annotate these ESTs in order to promptly find possible functional genes, especially for immune related factors. About 4% of the ESTs show similarity to the coding sequences of such factors, including lectin, serine protease, serpin, lysozyme, etc. These ESTs provide a partial profile of the immune system in F. chinensis and useful information for further study on these genes.

Indium Composition Dependence of the Size Uniformity of InGaAs Quantum Dots on (311)B GaAs Grown by Molecular Beam Epitaxy

The deposition of InxGa1-xAs (0.2 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 0.5) on (311)B GaAs surfaces using solid source molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) has been studied. Both AFM and photoluminescence emission showed that homogeneous quantum dots could be formed on (311)B GaAs surface when indium composition was around 0.4. Indium composition had a strong influence on the size uniformity and the lateral alignment of quantum dots. Compared with other surface orientation, (100) and (n11) A/B (n=1,2,3), photoluminescence measurement confirmed that (311)B surface is the most advantageous in fabricating uniform and dense quantum dots.

lambda-DNA Hind III was denatured by HCl, renatured by NaOH, and digested by DNase I sequentially. The produced mixture was separated with Sephadex G200 column, and the chromatograph showed a very weak peak of one component resistant to the digestion of DNase I. The results of AFM studies on this component indicated that an unusual form of DNA was present, with the height 13 times that of double-stranded DNA. By comparison with known results, it is suggested that this is a multi-stranded DNA other than simple supercoils.

TiB2/TiB/TiNx(x=1,0.3)/Ti composite coating was prepared on pure Ti by laser surface alloying by using powders of boron as starting *** composite coating was examined by X-ray diffraction(XRD),high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM)and scanning electron microscopy(SEM).The friction and wear properties of the composite coating were examined using a pin-on-disk tester under dry sliding wear *** results showed that the top surface of the composite coating was mainly composed of TiB2,TiB,TiN0.3,TiN and Ti phases,while the interface of the composite coating was composed of TiB and Ti *** composite coating showed sticklike structure near the top surface,and dendrites structure near the *** friction and wear test showed that the composite coating had better wear resistance than pure Ti due to their higher microhardness than that of pure Ti substrate.

The electrolytic domain boundary (EDB) of doped ceria between ionic and electronic conduction is theoretically investigated with the consideration of defect association. Data from the early reports on EDB of singly, double and triply doped ceria are summarized and interpreted based on the theoretical investigation. It is proposed that samarium and gadolinium among the rare earth elements are mostly suitable for the main dopants of ceria, while further minor additions of other elements can benefit the improvement of the EDB.
