Cognitive impairment associated with individual and joint exposure to PM_(2.5)constituents in a Chinese national cohort

Nationwide longitudinal evidence linking cognitive decline with exposure to fine particulate matter(PM_(2.5))constituents remains scarce in *** constructing a dynamic cohort based on the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study,we aimed to assess individual and joint associations of PM_(2.5)constituents with cognitive function among middle-aged and older adults in *** mixed-effects models incorporated with quantile-based g-computation were applied to investigate individual and joint associations of long-term exposures to PM_(2.5)constituents with cognitive *** 13,507 respondents,we evaluated 38,950 follow-up records of cognitive function *** in global cognitive score associated with an interquartile range(IQR)increase in exposure were−1.477(95%CI:−1.722,−1.232)for nitrate,followed by−1.331(−1.529,−1.133)for ammonium,−1.033(−1.184,−0.883)for sulfate,−0.988(−1.144,−0.832)for organic matter and−0.822(−0.946,−0.699)for black *** IQR-equivalent increase in joint exposure to these PM_(2.5)constituents was associated with a decline of−1.353(−1.659,−1.048)in global cognitive ***,younger,and well-educated individuals were at greater vulnerability to cognitive impairment related to individual and joint exposure to PM_(2.5)*** study suggested that later-life exposures to PM_(2.5)constituents were associated with cognitive decline in middle-aged and older adults in China.

Cohort evidence linking long-term survival of older adults with exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) constituents remains scarce in *** constructing a dynamic cohort based on the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Study,we aimed to assess the individual and joint associations of major PM2.5constituents with all-cause death in Chinese oldest-old （≥80 years） ***-dependent Cox proportional hazards models were adopted to estimate death risks of long-term exposure to *** 14,884 participants,totaling 56,342 person-years of follow-up,12,346 deaths were *** highest mortality risk associated with an interquartile range（IQR） increase in exposure was 1.081 （95%confidence interval[CI]:1.055–1.108） for sulfate (IQR=4.1μg m–3),followed by 1.078 （95%CI:1.056–1.101） for black carbon (IQR=1.6μg m–3),1.056 （95%CI:1.028–1.084） for ammonium (IQR=3.2μg m–3),1.050 （95%CI:1.021–1.080） for nitrate (IQR=5.8μg m–3),and 1.049 （95%CI:1.024–1.074） for organic matter (IQR=10.3μg m–3).In joint exposure,each IQR-equivalent rise of all five PM2.5constituents was associated with an 8.2%（95%CI:4.0%–12.6%） increase in mortality *** weight analysis indicated the predominant role of sulfate and black carbon in driving PM2.5-related *** （aged 80–89 years） and rural dwellers were at significantly greater risk of mortality from individual and joint exposures to *** study suggests that later-life exposure to PM2.5constituents,particularly sulfate and black carbon,may curtail long-term survival of the oldest-old in China.

Associations of Daytime Napping with Incident Cardiovascular Diseases and Hypertension in Chinese Adults:A Nationwide Cohort Study

Objective This study aimed to examine the associations of daytime napping with incident risks of cardiovascular diseases(CVDs)and hypertension(HTN).Methods Data for napping and CVD outcomes in 25 provinces were collected from baseline(2010)and three waves of follow-up(2012-2017)investigations of the China Family Panel *** frailty models with random intercepts for the surveyed provinces were used to assess the longitudinal effects of daytime napping on CVD and *** Compared with non-nappers,30+min nappers had higher risks of CVD and HTN,while no significant associations were observed amonghazard ratio(HR)1.22,95% confidence interval(CI)1.08-1.39]for CVD and 21%(1.21,1.04-1.41)for HTN,respectively,with corresponding HRs of CVD and HTN of 1.27(1.09-1.47)and 1.38(1.16-1.65)among≥60 min ***-associated CVD risks varied by subgroups,with stronger associations in participants with lower body mass index(<24 kg/m^(2)),physically inactive persons,smokers,and participants with longer nighttime sleep(≥7 h/night).Significant effects of daytime napping were observed on rural and northern residents only,highlighting great regional variations in CVD risks associated with napping *** This cohort study revealed strong evidence that long daytime napping(≥30 min)is associated with an increased incidence of cardiovascular events.

Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is a common infectious disease in children, occurring primarily in preschool children[1_3] with infants under three years old being gen erally susceptible. The disease is caused by various enteroviruses, among which EV71 and Coxsackievirus A group 16 (Cox A16) are the most comm on ⑷.According to in formation released by the Chinese Center for Disease control and Prevention on June 8, 2016, EV71 infection- related HFMD has been prevalent among infants and young children in China since 2007, with a high incidenee and many deaths.

Hepatitis E virus(HEV)infection is a common public health problem in developing ***,the current prevalence of HEV and the relationship of HEV genotype between swine and human within high-density pig-farming areas in central China are still inadequately ***,cross-sectional serological and genotypic surveys of HEV among the 1232 general population,273 workers occupationally exposed to swine,and 276 pigs in a high-density pig-breeding area,were undertaken by ELISA and nested RT-PCR ***-HEV IgG was detected in 26.22%of general population and 48.35%of occupational *** prevalence of swine serum HEV-Ag was 6.52%.The prevalence of anti-HEV IgG was significantly higher among the workers occupationally exposed to swine than among the general *** increased HEV seropositivity risk among the general population was associated with either being a peasant or male and was very strongly associated with the increase of *** the occupationally exposed group,the prevalence of anti-HEV IgG antibodies increased with age and working *** the 30 HEV-IgM-positive people,the infection rates of clerks in the public,peasants,pork retailers,and pig farmers were higher than those of others.A phylogenetic analysis revealed that all the isolates belonged to subgenotype 4d,and four people and four pigs shared 97.04%-100%sequence *** study revealed a high HEV seroprevalence among the general population and workers occupationally exposed to swine in the Anlu City,and supports the notion that swine are a source of human HEV infection.

To investigate the effect of Myocardin related transcription factor A(MRTF-A)on apoptosis induced by ischemic/reperfusion(I/R),middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion(MCAO/R)in rats were applied to mimic I/*** neurological deficit score,cerebral infarct size,cortical neuron apoptosis and cleaved caspase 3 level were evaluated to determine the effect and the level of apoptosis by TTC straining,terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling(TUNEL)straining,Western blot and immunofuorescence *** myeloid cell leukemia-1(Mcl-1)expression,release of cytochrome C(Cyt C)and its colocalization with apoptotic pro-tease activating factor-1(Apaf-1)were analyzed by quantitative real-time PCR(qRT-PCR),Western blot,and immunofuorescence *** results showed that MRTF-A over-expression could decrease the neurological deficit score and reduce cerebral infarct size(P<0.01 versus Sham).In the MRTF-A-I/R group,TUNEL-positive cells and apoptosis ratio(%)(51.61±6.17%)were significantly decreased compared to the Neg-I/R group(76.45±8.77%)at 24 h ***,the cleaved caspase 3 expression revealed a similar trend while the expression of Mcl-1 was the ***,MRTF-A overexpression significantly enhanced Mcl-1 fAuorescence intensity,which up-regulated the mRNA and protein level(P<0.05or P<0.01 versus Neg-I/R).Furthermore,MRTF-A overexpression markedly inhibited the release of Cyt C,and decreased the colocalization with Apaf-1 in the cytoplasm(P<0.05 or P<*** Neg-I/R).All the data indicated that MRTF-A overexpression could improve the neu-rological function against cerebral I/R-induced apoptosis since underlying mechanism might be involved in the Mc-1/Cyt C/cleaved caspase 3 signaling pathway.

Existing evidence suggested that short-term exposure to fine particulate matter(PM_(2.5))may increase the risk of death from myocardial infarction(MI),while PM_(2.5) constituents responsible for this association has not been *** collected 12,927 MI deaths from 32 counties in southern China during 2011–***-level exposures of ambient PM_(2.5) and its 5 constituents(i.e.,elemental carbon(EC),organic carbon(OC),sulfate(SO_(4)^(2-)),ammonium(NH_(4)^(+)),and nitrate(NO_(3)^(-)))were aggregated from gridded datasets predicted by Community Multiscale Air Quality Modeling *** employed a space-time-stratified casecrossover design and conditional logistic regression models to quantify the association of MI mortality with short-term exposure to PM_(2.5) and its constituents across various lag *** the study period,the daily mean PM_(2.5) mass concentration was 77.8(standard deviation(SD)=72.7)μg/m^(3).We estimated an odds ratio of 1.038(95%confidence interval(CI):1.003-1.074),1.038(1.013-1.063)and 1.057(1.023-1.097)for MI mortality associated with per interquartile range(IQR)increase in the 3-day moving-average exposure to PM_(2.5)(IQR=76.3μg/m 3),EC(4.1μg/m^(3))and OC(9.1μg/m^(3)),*** did not identify significant association between MI death and exposure to water-soluble ions(SO_(4)^(2-),NH_(4)^(+)and NO_(3)^(-)).Likelihood ratio tests supported no evident violations of linear assumptions for constituents-MI *** analyses showed stronger associations between MI death and EC/OC exposure in the elderly,males and cold ***-term exposure to PM_(2.5) constituents,particularly those carbonaceous aerosols,was associated with increased risks of MI mortality.

A growing number of studies associated increased mortality with exposures to specific fine particulate(PM_(2.5))constituents,while great heterogeneity exists between *** China,evidence linking PM_(2.5)constituents and mortality was extensively *** study primarily aimed to quantify short-term associations between PM_(2.5)constituents and non-accidental mortality among the Chinese *** collected daily mortality records from 32 counties in China between January 1,2011,and December 31,*** concentrations of main PM_(2.5)constituents(organic carbon(OC),elemental carbon(EC),nitrate(NO_(3)^(-)),sulfate(SO_(4)^(2−)),and ammonium(NH_(4)^(+)))were estimated using the modified Community Multiscale Air Quality ***-stratified case-crossover design with conditional logistic regression models was adopted to estimate mortality risks associated with short-term exposures to PM_(2.5)mass and its *** analyses were done by sex,age,and season.A total of 116,959 non-accidental deaths were ***_(2.5)concentrations on the day of death were averaged at 75.7μg m^(−3)(control day:75.6μg m^(−3)),with an interquartile range(IQR)of 65.2μg m^(−3).Per IQR rise in PM_(2.5),EC,OC,NO_(3)^(-),SO_(4)^(2−),and NH_(4)^(+)at lag-04 day was associated with an increase in non-accidental mortality of 2.4%(95%confidence interval,(1.0–3.7),1.7%(0.8–2.7),2.9%(1.6–4.3),2.1%(0.4–3.9),1.0%(0.2–1.9),and 1.6%(0.3–2.9),*** PM_(2.5)mass and its constituents were strongly associated with elevated cardiovascular mortality risks,but only PM_(2.5),EC,and OC were positively associated with respiratory mortality at lag-3 ***_(2.5)mass and its constituents associated effects on mortality varied among sex-and age-specific *** in the seasonal pattern of associations exist among PM_(2.5)constituents,with stronger effects related to EC and NO_(3)^(-)in warm months but SO_(4)^(2−)and NH_(4)^(+)in cold ***-term

Dear Editor,In 2009,an outbreak of an unknown infectious disease occurred in rural areas of Hubei Province,China,affecting 17 persons,five of whom *** was initially suspected to be human anaplasmosis(Zhang et al.2008).However,the laboratory evidence was insufficient to verify the diagnosis in most *** March 2011,a new virus was isolated from a patient’s blood and named severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome(SFTS)virus(SFTSV)in the Bunyaviridae(Yu et al.2011).The main signs and symptoms of SFTS are fever,thrombocytopenia,leukopenia,and a decreased platelet count(Yu et al.2011;McMullan et al.2012;Zhang et al.2017;Hu et al.2018).
