Effects of a nurse-led heart failure clinic on hospital readmission and mortality in hong kong

Background Heart failure （HF） is a physically and socially debilitating disease that carries the burden of hospital re-admission and mortality. As an aging society, hong kong urgently needs to find ways to reduce the hospital readmission of HF patients. This study evaluates the effects of a nurse-led HF clinic on the hospital readmission and mortality rates among older HF patients in hong kong. Methods This study is a retrospective data analysis that compares HF patient in a nurse-led HF clinic in hong kong compared with HF patients who did not attend the clinic. The nurses of this clinic provide education on lifestyle modification and symptom monitoring, as well as titrate the medications and measure biochemical markers by following established protocols. This analysis used the socio-demographic and clinical data of HF patients who were aged 〉 65 years old and stayed in the clinic over a six-month period. Results The data of a total of 78 HF patients were included in this data analysis. The mean age of the patients was 77.38 ± 6.80 years. Approximately half of the HF patients were male （51.3%）, almost half were smokers （46.2%）, and the majority received 〈 six years of formal education. Most of the HF patients （87.2%） belonged to classes II and III of the New York Heart Association Functional Classification, with a mean ejection fraction of 47.15± 20.31 mL. The HF patients who attended the clinic （n = 38, 75.13 ± 5.89 years） were significantly younger than those who did not attend the clinic （n = 40, 79.53 ± 6.96 years）（P = 0.04）, and had lower recorded blood pressure. No other statistically significant difference existed between the socio-demographic and clinical characteristics of the two groups. The HF patients who did not attend the nurse-led HF clinic demonstrated a significantly higher risk of hospital readmission [odd ratio （OR）： 7.40; P 〈 0.01] than those who attended after adjusting for the effect of age and blood pressure. Climate change, especially as reflected in heat waves, is a rising threat worldwide. Appropriate use of cooling devices can protect people from health impacts during a heat wave. A population-based telephone survey was conducted in a representative sample of residents in hong kong to investigate ownership and use of domestic cooling devices, identify correlates, and examine their associations with risk perception of potential health impact of climate change. More than 90% of the 1002 respondents owned and used cooling devices at home. The majority(57.7%) perceived the potential health risk of climate change at a high level. However, risk perception had no relationship with ownership and utilization of cooling devices. Old people(≥ 65 years), the low-educated, those with low income, and those with chronic diseases were more likely not to use air conditioners when feeling *** findings suggest that there are no signs showing people have taken more protective actions although half of respondents recognized climate change as a threat. Familial economic condition may be a major determinant in ownership and use of air conditioners at home. Old people and those with chronic diseases are at high risk of adverse exposure to climate change and therefore should be equipped with appropriate measures to use cooling devices.

Super Typhoon Mangkhut hit hong kong on September 16,2018,necessitating the issuance of the highest tropical cyclone warning signal,No.10 Hurricane *** ferocious winds and record-breaking storm surge,Mangkhut brought the most serious and widespread destruction to the territory in the recent three decades.A series of post event information search,field visits and damage surveys has been conducted by the hong kong Observatory(HKO)and the findings on the damages and impacts caused by Mangkhut in different parts of the territory are documented in this ***,by analyzing the economic loss data reported by various government departments,public utilities and organizations in hong kong and the statistics on insurance claims from the hong kong Federation of Insurers(HKFI),the estimated direct economic loss due to Mangkhut in hong kong is about HK$4.60 billion,which is about 3.8 times to that of Super Typhoon Hato in *** the contrary,in the Guangdong-hong kong-Macao Greater Bay Area,the estimated direct economic loss due to Hato is significantly higher than that of *** could be attributed to the early and effective warnings for Mangkhut,increased public awareness and typhoon preparedness for Mangkhut in 2018 since the fierce attack of Hato in 2017,and infrastructure enhancement of the major impact areas.

Telerobotic surgery is the most advanced development in the field of minimally invasive surgery. The da Vinci surgical system, which is currently the most widely used telerobotic device, was approved by the Food and Drug Administration of the United States of America for clinical use in all abdominal operations in July 2000. The first da Vinci surgical system in China was installed in November 2005 at our institution. We herein report the first telerobotic-assisted laparoscopic abdominoperineal resection using the 3-arm da Vinci surgical system for low rectal cancer in hong kong and China, which was performed in August 2006. The operative time and blood loss were 240 min and 200 mL, respectively. There was no complication, and the patient was discharged on postoperative day five. An updated review of published literature on telerobotic-assisted colorectal surgery is included in this report, with special emphasis on its advantages and limitations.

It is generally accepted that the extra construction costs involved in the construction of green buildings will result in benefits including lower operation costs,higher sale/rental prices,and better sustainability ***,there has been little recognition of construction waste minimization(CWM)as one of the important benefits of sustainability performance as designated in green building.is paper aims to provide a better understanding of the cost benefit of green buildings with respect to CWM by using big data in the context of hong *** study is innovative in that it conducts a cost-benefit analysis specifically on CWM of green buildings by mining large-volume datasets.A surprise finding is that hong kong’s green building rating system(GBRS),*** BEAM Plus,has a negligible effect on CWM,while it generally increases construction costs by approximately 24%.Hence,the increased construction cost of green buildings cannot be offset by CWM if corresponding items in the BEAM Plus are not properly incentivized.is paper demonstrates the necessity of emphasizing CWM-related items in GBRSs and of taking appropriate measures to deal with *** also provides better decision-support information on the increased construction costs and the attainable benefits of green building that developers may wish to consider when initiating a green building project.

Tropical cyclone(TC)track predictions of the 10-km resolution WRF(provisionally named"AAMC-WRF")of the hong kong Observatory(HKO),spanning(20°S-60°N,45°E-160°E)is studied for a 1-year period from April 2018 to Mar ***-time predictions,up to 4 times a day and T+48 h ahead,are verified against operational analysis positions of HKO for storms over the South China Sea(SCS)and Western North Pacific(WNP);and of the New Delhi Regional Specialised Meteorological Centre(RSMC)for storms over the North Indian Ocean basin(NIO;including the Bay of Bengal).Out of 21 named TCs over SCS and WNP,mean positional errors of the AAMC-WRF are 33 km(T+0),63 km(T+24),and 107 km(T+48)based on 209,178 and 142 *** AAMC-WRF outperformed Meso-NHM,also run in real-time at HKO,with mean error reduction up to 34 km or 24%.Mean positional errors for 13 NIO storms are 38 km(T+0),69 km(T+24)and 107 km(T+48)based on 183,131 and 85 *** is the first study in which TC predictions of a regional model are simultaneously examined over the SCS,WNP and NIO basins through real-time experiments.

hong kong has undergone substantial economic transformations and developed into a sophisticated busi- ness and financial center in the Asia-Pacific region, since the return of sovereignty to China as a Special Administrative Region under the One Country Two Systems （OCTS） in 1997. This paper discusses and analyzes the industrial struc- tural changes of hong kong in recent decades as well as its future challenges and opportunities, The data and finding reveal that even though hong kong will face fierce competition from the Mainland＇s cities as the rise of China, the important role as a bridge between China and the rest of the world wilt brace hong kong itself under the OCTS for developing into a service hub for business and trade in the Asia-Pacific region.

In this paper, we discuss the quadrilateral, finite element approximation to the two-dimensional linear elasticity problem associated with a homogeneous isotropic elastic material. The optimal convergence of the finite element method is proved for both the L-2-norm and energy-norm, and in particular, the convergence is uniform with respect to the Lame constant lambda. Also the performance of the scheme does not deteriorate as the material becomes nearly incompressible, Numerical experiments are given which are consistent with our theory.

Projection of Extreme Temperatures in hong kong in the 21st Century

The possible changes in the frequency of extreme temperature events in hong kong in the 21st century were investigated by statistically downscaling 26 sets of the daily global climate model projections （a combination of 11 models and 3 greenhouse gas emission scenarios, namely A2, A1B, and B1） of the Fourth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The models’ performance in simulating the past climate during 1971–2000 has also been verified and discussed. The verification revealed that the models in general have an acceptable skill in reproducing past statistics of extreme temperature events. Moreover, the models are more skillful in simulating the past climate of the hot nights and cold days than that of the very hot days. The projection results suggested that, in the 21st century, the frequency of occurrence of extremely high temperature events in hong kong would increase significantly while that of the extremely low temperature events is expected to drop significantly. Based on the multi-model scenario ensemble mean, the average annual numbers of very hot days and hot nights in hong kong are expected to increase significantly from 9 days and 16 nights in 1980–1999 to 89 days and 137 nights respectively in 2090–2099. On the other hand, the average annual number of cold days will drop from 17 days in 1980–1999 to about 1 day in 2090–2099. About 65 percent of the model-scenario combinations indicate that there will be on average less than one cold day in 2090–2099. While all the model-emission scenarios in general have projected consistent trends in the change of temperature extremes in the 21st century, there is a large divergence in the projections between difierent model/emission scenarios. This reflects that there are still large uncertainties in the model simulation of the future climate of extreme temperature events.
