A kind of novel Ti-based composites was developed by introducing different amounts of carbon element to the Ti50Cu23Ni20Sn7 bulk metallic glass forming alloys. The thermal stability and microstructural evolution of the composites were investigated. Room temperature compression tests reveal that the composite samples with 1% and 3%（mass fraction） carbon additions have higher fracture strength and obvious plastic strain of 2195MPa, 3.1% and 1913MPa, 1.3% respectively, compared with those of the corresponding carbon-free Ti50Ni20Cu23Sn7 alloys. The deformation mechanisms of the composites with improved mechanical properties were also discussed.

We utilize the anomalous dispersion of planar photonic crystals near the dielectric band edge to control the wavelength-dependent propagation of light. We typically observe an angular swing of up to 10°as the input wavelength is changed from 1290 nm to 1310 rim, which signifies an angular dispersion of 0.5°/am （＂Superprism＂ phenomenon）. Such a strong angular dispersion is of the order required for WDM systems. By tuning the incident angle, light beams with up to 20° divergence were collimated over a 25 nm （1285 nm to 1310 nm） bandwidth using a triangular lattice （＂Supercollimator＂ phenomenon）. The wavelength collimating range can be extended from 25 nm to 40 nm by changing the lattice from triangular to square. These two devices can be realized in the same configuration, simply by tuning the wavelength. Sources of loss are discussed.

In this paper, the principle of subaperture stitching interferometry was introduced. A testing stage with five degrees of freedom for stitching interferometry was built. A model based on least-squares method and error averaging method for data processing was estab- lished, which could reduce error accumulation and improve the precision. A 100ram plane mirror was measured with a 50mm aperture interferometer by means of stitching interferometry. Compared with the results by a 100 mm interferometer, peak to valley （PV） and root mean square （RMS） of the phase distribution residual are 0.00382 and 0.00042, respectively. It proved that the model and method are helpful for large optical measurement.

In this study,normal values of semen analysis were set for a general infertile population of couples among which most women had normal *** predictive capacity values of sperm quality,including concentration,motile count,progressive motile count,and morphology,are unclear for women with polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS).A secondary analysis was conducted based on a randomized controlled trial investigating infertility among women with PCOS experiencing ovulatory disorder between 2011 and 2016 in China.A total of 1000 women received ovulation induction(acupuncture and clomiphene).We randomized the women with PCOS in 27 hospitals in China who received one of four interventions(acupuncture plus clomiphene,sham acupuncture plus clomiphene,acupuncture plus placebo,or sham acupuncture plus placebo).Semen analysis was performed for every male partner according to the World Health Organization(WHO)*** outcomes included conception,clinical pregnancy,and live *** regression was used to evaluate the predictive value of semen analysis among ovulatory women for conception,clinical pregnancy,and live *** the 1000 couples,the number of couples who attained ovulation,conception,clinical pregnancy,and live birth were 780,320,235,and 205,*** volume and motility were applied and used as prediction parameters for conception(area under the curve(AUC)of 0.62(95%confidence interval(CI),0.55–0.69)),clinical pregnancy(AUC of 0.67(95%CI:0.61–0.73)),and live birth(AUC of 0.57(95%CI:0.50–0.64)).No poor calibration was shown for these models in Hosmer–Lemeshow *** predictive capacity of semen analysis for treatment outcome in PCOS women with PCOS experiencing with ovulatory dysfunction is limited.

An ultrafast spectrum programmable femtosecond laser may enhance the performance of a wide variety of scientific applications,e.g.,multi-photon *** this paper,we report a digital micromirror device(DMD)-based ultrafast pulse shaper,i.e.,DUPS,for femtosecond laser arbitrary amplitude shaping-the first time a programmable binary device reported to shape the amplitudes of ultrafast pulses spectrum at up to 32 kHz rate over a broad wavelength *** DUPS is highly effcient,compact,and low cost based on the use of a DMD in combination with a transmission *** and temporal dispersion introduced by the DUPS is compensated by a quasi-4-f setup and a grating pair,*** pulses with arbitrary spectrum shapes,including rectangular,sawtooth,triangular,double-pulse,and exponential profile,have been demonstrated in our experiments.A feedback operation process is implemented in the DUPS to ensure a robust and repeatable shaping *** total effciency of the DUPS for amplitude shaping is measured to be 27%.

In ancient China, Daoist philosophers developed the concepts of qi(energy), Wu Xing(five elements), and yin(feminine, dark, negative) and yang(masculine, bright, positive) opposite forces between 200 and 600 BCE. Based on these philosophies, Zhen Jiu(acupuncture), Ben Cao(materia medica), and the practice of Qi Gong(energy optimization movements) evolved as the three interrelated therapeutic regimens of Chinese medicine(Note 1). Since the time of Zhang Qian, who discovered China's western regions in the 1st century BCE, Hai Yao(the exotic elements of materia medica from the maritime Silk Road countries), had been transmitted from the ancient land and maritime routes of the Silk Road to China in the past two millennia(Note 2). Since the late 17th century, the English East India Company, later called the British East India Company, introduced Yang Yao(opium) to the Manchu Qing Empire to balance a growing trade deficit for tea export from China to the British Empire. After the First Opium War ended in 1842, enterprising expatriate chemists and druggists in the treaty ports imported Xi Yao(modern medicines from the Western world) for sale to the merchant navy and the local market. From the second half of the 19th century onwards, both Hai Yao and Xi Yao have become a fully integrated part of modern China's armamentarium for the Chinese medicine and Western hospitals and retail pharmacy sectors. This paper articulates the journey of adoption of exotic elements of materia medica from the ancient land and sea routes of the Silk Road, including the western regions and the rest of the world in the past two millennia. Opium traders, ship surgeons, medical and pharmaceutical missionaries, enterprising traders, and policymakers together transformed Ben Cao into Xi Yao during the late Manchu Qing dynasty and the early Nationalist Era.

Transcriptome shock in an interspecific F1 triploid hybrid of Oryza revealed by RNA sequencing

Interspecific hybridization is a driving force in evolution and speciation of higher plants. Interspecific hybridization often induces immediate and saltational changes in gene expression, a phenomenon collectively termed ＂transcriptome shock＂. Although transcriptome shock has been reported in various plant and animal taxa, the extent and pattern of shock-induced expression changes are often highly idiosyncratic, and hence entails additional investigations. Here, we produced a set of interspecific F1 triploid hybrid plants between Oryza sativa, ssp. japonica （2n=2x=24, genome AA） and the tetraploid form of O. punctata （2n=4x =48, genome, BBCC）, and conducted RNA-seq transcriptome profiling of the hybrids and their exact parental plants. We analyzed both homeolog expression bias and overall gene expression level difference in the hybrids relative to the in silico ＂hybrids＂（parental mixtures）. We found that approximately 16% （2,541） of the 16,112 expressed genes in leaf tissue of the F1 hybrids showed nonadditive expression, which were specifically enriched in photosynthesis-related pathways. Interestingly, changes in the maternal homeolog expression, including non-stochastic silencing, were the major causes for altered homeolog expression partitioning in the F1 hybrids. Our findings have provided further insights into the tran- scriptome response to interspecific hybridization and heterosis.
