Printing is a method of additive manufacturing that can reduce material costs and environmental contamination during the fabrication *** ink is commonly used in printed electronics,such as interconnects,inductors,and ***,the high cost of noble Ag restricts its massive *** reduce the cost of the state-of-the-art Ag ink and realize large-scale manufacturing,we develop a molecule-bridged graphene/Ag(MB-G/A)composite to produce highly conductive and cost-effective paperbased *** can be used to substitute part of Ag nanoparticles to reduce costs,form a conducive percolation network,and retain a reasonable level of *** adopt cysteamine as a molecular linker,because it anchors on the surface of graphene via the diazonium ***,the thiol functional group on the other end of cysteamine can bond to a Ag atom,forming a molecular bridge between graphene and Ag and promoting electron transport between Ag and *** a result,the maximum conductivity of MB-G/A inks can reach 2.0×10^(5)S m^(−1),enabling their successful application in various printable *** addition,the optimum MB-G/A ink costs less than half as much as pure Ag inks,showing the great potential of MB-G/A ink in commercial electronic devices.

Quality of life after laparoscopic vs open sphincter-preserving resection for rectal cancer

AIM: To compare quality of life (QoL) outcomes in Chinese patients after curative laparoscopic vs open surgery for rectal cancer. METHODS: Eligible Chinese patients with rectal cancer undergoing curative laparoscopic or open sphincterpreserving resection between July 2006 and July 2008 were enrolled in this prospective study. The QoL outcomes were assessed longitudinally using the validated Chinese versions of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer QLQ-C30 and QLQCR38 questionnaires before surgery and at 4, 8, and 12 mo after surgery. The QoL scores at the different time points were compared between the laparoscopic and open groups. A higher score on a functional scale indicated better functioning, whereas a higher score on a symptom scale indicated a higher degree of ***: Seventy-four patients (49 laparoscopic and 25 open) were enrolled. The two groups of patients were comparable in terms of sociodemographic data, types of surgery, tumor staging, and baseline mean QoL scores. There was no significant decrease from baseline in global QoL for the laparoscopic group at different time points, whereas the global QoL was worse compared to baseline beginning at 4 mo but returned to baseline by 12 mo for the open group (P = 0.019, Friedman test). Compared to the open group, the laparoscopic group had significantly better physical (89.9±1.4 vs 79.2±3.7, P = 0.016), role (85.0±3.4 vs 63.3±6.9, P = 0.005), and cognitive (73.5±3.4 vs 50.7±6.2, P = 0.002) functioning at 8 mo, fewer micturition problems at 4-8 mo (4 mo: 32.3±4.7 vs 54.7±7.1, P = 0.011; 8 mo: 22.8±4.0 vs 40.7±6.9, P = 0.020), and fewer male sexual problems from 8 mo onward (20.0±8.5 vs 76.7±14.5, P = 0.013). At 12 mo after surgery, no significant differences were observed in any functional or symptom scale between the two groups, with the exception of male sexual problems, which remained worse in the open group (29.2±11.3 vs 80.0±9.7, P = 0.026). Symptom clusters and quality of life among patients with advanced heart failure

Objectives To identify symptom clusters among patients with advanced heart failure （HF） and the independent relationships with their quality of life （QoL）. Methods This is the secondary data analysis of a cross-sectional study which interviewed 119 patients with advanced HF in the geriatric unit of a regional hospital in hong kong. The symptom profile and QoL were assessed by using the Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale （ESAS） and the McGill QoL Questionnaire. Exploratory factor analysis was used to identify the symptom clusters. Hier- archical regression analysis was used to examine the independent relationships with their QoL, after adjusting the effects of age, gender, and comorbidities. Results The patients were at an advanced age （82.9± 6.5 years）. Three distinct symptom clusters were identified： they were the distress cluster （including shortness of breath, anxiety, and depression）, the decondition cluster （fatigue, drowsiness, nausea, and reduced appetite）, and the discomfort cluster （pain, and sense of generalized discomfort）. These three symptom clusters accounted for 63.25% of variance of the patients＇ symptom experience. The small to moderate correlations between these symptom clusters indicated that they were rather independent of one another. After adjusting the age, gender and comorbidities, the distress （β = -0.635, P 〈 0.001）, the decondition （β = -0.148, P = 0.01）, and the discomfort （β = -0.258, P 〈 0.001） symptom clusters independently predicted their QoL. Conclusions This study identified the distinctive symptom clusters among patients with advanced HF. The results shed light on the need to develop palliative care interventions for optimizing the symptom control for this life-limiting disease.

Deployable/retractable damped cantilever beams are a class of time-varying parametric structures which have attracted considerable research interest due to their many potential applications in the intelligent robot field and *** the present work,the dynamic characteristics of a deployable/retractable damped cantilever beam are investigated experimentally and *** time-varying damping,as a function of the beam length,is obtained by both the enveloped fitting method and the period decrement ***,the governing equation of the deployable/retractable damped cantilever beam is derived by introducing the time-varying damping parameter,and the corresponding closed-form solution and vibration principles are investigated based on the averaged *** theoretical predictions for transient dynamic responses are in good agreement with the experimental *** dynamic mechanism analysis on time-varying damping offers flexible technology in mechanical and aerospace fields.

EMP chemical ages of monazites from Central Zone of the eastern Kunlun Orogen:Records of multi-tectonometamorphic events

Two generations of monazite were identified in one mica schist sample from the central zone of the eastern Kunlun Orogen at the northern margin of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The first generation was found in the cores of garnet porphyroblasts with relatively high Y2O3 contents (averaging 1.012±0.088 wt%). The second generation occurs either as inclusions in the rims of garnet porphyroblasts,matrix kyanite,plagioclase and quartz,or as separate crystals associated with matrix biotite and muscovite mostly having a relatively low Y2O3 content (averaging 0.479±0.100 wt%). Electron microprobe (EMP) Th-U-Pbtotal chemical dating for two grains of the first generation monazite yields average ages of 455 ± 18 Ma and 420 ± 20 Ma,respectively; six grains of the second generation gave an average age of 246.1 ± 3.8 Ma. These ages suggest that the core and rim of the garnet porphyroblasts and their associated assemblages record two events of significant tectonometamorphism. The formation of the Ordovician monazite is related to the tectonometamorphic event responsible for continuous amalgamation of the Gondwanaland in the Late Pan-African period or for consumption of the Proto-Tethys,whereas the development of the Triassic monazite is related to the tectonometamorphic event for consumption of the Paleo-Tethys.

A Unified Dimensionless Parameter for Finite Element Mesh for Beams Resting on Elastic Foundation

Discretising a structure into elements is a key step in finite element(FE)*** discretised geometry used to formulate an FE model can greatly affect accuracy and *** paper presents a unified dimensionless parameter to generate a mesh of cubic FEs for the analysis of very long beams resting on an elastic foundation.A uniform beam resting on elastic foundation with various values of flexural stiffness and elastic supporting coefficients subject to static load and moving load is used to illustrate the application of the proposed *** numerical results show that(a)Even if the values of the flexural stiffness of the beam and elastic supporting coefficient of the elastic foundation are different,the same proposed parameter“s”can ensure the same accuracy of the FE solution,but the accuracy may differ for use of the same element length;(b)The proposed dimensionless parameter“s”can indeed be used as a unified index to generate the mesh for a beam resting on elastic foundation,whereas the use of the same element length as a criterion may be misleading;(c)The errors between the FE and analytical solutions for the maximum vertical displacement,shear force and bending moment of the beam increase with the dimensionless parameter“s”;and(d)For the given allowable errors for the vertical displacement,shear force and bending moment of the beam under static load and moving load,the corresponding values of the proposed parameter are provided to guide the mesh generation.

This paper studies the numerical simulations for the Cahn-Hilliard equation which describes a phase separation *** numerical simulation of the Cahn-Hilliardmodel needs very long time to reach the steady state,and therefore large time-stepping methods become *** main objective of this work is to construct the unconditionally energy stable finite difference scheme so that the large time steps can be used in the numerical *** equation is discretized by the central difference scheme in space and fully implicit second-order scheme in *** proposed scheme is proved to be unconditionally energy stable and *** error estimate for the numerical solution is also obtained with second order in both space and *** using this energy stable scheme,an adaptive time-stepping strategy is proposed,which selects time steps adaptively based on the variation of the free energy against *** numerical experiments are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the adaptive time-stepping approach.

In this paper a new mesh simplification algorithm based on triangle collapses is presented. The algorithm can provide efficient error management and simplify the original mesh greatly. Progressive meshes may be constructed with triangle collapsing operation. To make continuous transition between level of detail (LOD) models possible, a method for interpolating is also presented. Examples illustrate the efficiency of the algorithm.

Discovering a formula for the high temperature oxidation behavior of FeCrAlCoNi based high entropy alloys by domain knowledge-guided machine learning

A mathematical formula of high physical interpretation,and accurate prediction and large generaliza-tion power is highly desirable for science,technology and *** this study,we performed a domain knowledge-guided machine learning to discover high interpretive formula describing the high-temperature oxidation behavior of FeCrAlCoNi-based high entropy alloys(HEAs).The domain knowledge suggests that the exposure time dependent and thermally activated oxidation behavior can be described by the synergy formula of power law multiplying Arrhenius *** pre-factor,time exponent(m),and activation energy(Q)are dependent on the chemical compositions of eight elements in the FeCrAlCoNi-based *** Tree-Classifier for Linear Regression(TCLR)algorithm utilizes the two exper-imental features of exposure time(t)and temperature(T)to extract the spectrums of activation energy(Q)and time exponent(m)from the complex and high dimensional feature space,which automatically gives the spectrum of *** three spectrums are assembled by using the element features,which leads to a general and interpretive formula with high prediction accuracy of the determination coefficient R^(2)=*** role of each chemical element in the high-temperature oxidation behavior is analytically illustrated in the three spectrums,thereby the discovered interpretative formula provides a guidance to the inverse design of HEAs against high-temperature *** present work demonstrates the sig-nificance of domain knowledge in the development of materials informatics.
