Improvement of the shelf life of grey mullet (Mugil cephalus) fish steaks using edible coatings containing chitosan, nanochitosan, and clove oil during refrigerated storage

The effects of edible coatings made of chitosan, or chitosan nanoparticles, and their combinations with clove oil on the physical, chemical, microbiological, and sensory properties of grey mullet (Mugil cephalus) steaks during refriger-ated storage (4 °C) for 24 days were evaluated. The data indicated that metrics for all of these characteristics were improved significantly (P ≤ 0.05) in coated fish steak samples compared to the control sample. The coated steaks texture values were higher than those of control sample through storage time with nanochitosan coating containing clove oil having best value 2.51 kg/cm2 among tested samples at the end of storage period. However, pH values of coated samples were lower, a good indicator, than corresponding one of the control (6.46) with nanochitosan coatings with or without clove oil showed low mean values (6.11-6.13). Similar trend regarding chemical indices, i.e. total volatile basic-nitrogen, trimethylamine, peroxide, and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances values for samples coated with nanochitosan with or without clove oil giving better lower values than control or other treatments. Also, the coating delayed microbial (aerobic plate count, psychrotrophic bacteria, yeasts and molds, and total coliform bacteria) growth during the refrigeration storage period, and coated samples produced better results compared to the control sample. Sensory evaluations showed that the treatment enhanced the scores of fish steak samples compared to the control. The results showed that a nanochitosan coating with clove oil was the best treatment prolonged the shelf life of mullet steaks and efficiently maintained the quality attributes to an acceptable level during refrigerated storage for 24 days. Thus, these findings can be bases for producer to provide consumers with fresh fish steaks with good shelf life at refrigerated temperature for up to 24 days.

Rise of China’s Manufacturing Hidden Champions:A Resource Allocation Perspective--An Explorative Case Study of Hailiya Group

Research on China's Regional Economic Linkages: Based on the Analyses of Carbon Emission Transfers and Labor Mobility

In the face of the dual challenges of coordinated development of regional economy and sustainable development, strengthening the regional economic linkages is critical to realizing the coordinated development of the regional economy based on the reasonable transfer of carbon emissions. Under the background of industrial transfer, the authors used the inter-regional input–output model to measure the carbon emissions and labor transfers among 30 provinces in 2002,2007 and 2010, analyzed the relationship between labor mobility and the spatial transfer of carbon emissions and introduced their scales and directions into a gravity model to measure the economic relations among regions. The results show that the embodied carbon emission tends to transfer from western and northeastern China to central and eastern China, which is consistent with the direction of labor mobility, and both of them show the feature of spatial clustering. Under the effects of carbon emission transfers and labor mobility, the radiation effects of the central node provinces in China such as Guangdong, Zhejiang, Hebei, Beijing, Henan and Gansu have given rise to the integrated regional spatial organizations of Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei, Yangtze River Delta Pan-Pearl River Delta and northwestern China, among which Yangtze River Delta and Pan-Pearl River Delta enjoy a relatively stable structure.

Based on the procedure of dynamic programming,this paper investigates the military spending,trade and wealth accumulation in a stochastic endogenous economic growth *** the Cobb-Dauglas utility function,explicit solutions of the optimal problem of the home country are ***,the optimal consumptions of domestic goods and foreign goods,the share of domestic capital stock and foreign bond holdings are derived *** comparative dynamic analysis shows that when intertemporal substitution in consumption is relative elastic,economic growth has a positive correlation with foreign military spending,has a negative correlation with variance of foreign military spending,and has a positive correlation with variance of capital or bonds if capital and bonds yields the same ***,in the case of inelasticity,variance of foreign military spending may stimulate or weaken economic development.

Fiscal Subsidy Policy on home Appliances: Its Effects on Domestic Consumption and Exports in China

This paper evaluates the effects of the home Appliances Going to the Countryside (HAGC) policy, afiscal subsidy program implemented in China to boost private consumption of home appliances in rural areas from 2007 to 2012. Using the policy as anatural experiment and employing the difference-in-difference estimator, we find that the policy did not increase domestic sales of relevant goods as expected;instead, it actually reduced domestic sales and significantly promoted exports. These surprising results are robust across regressions of alternative datasets, more controls, and different regions. We further provide detailed information of undisclosed audit data for acounty in Zhejiang province to shed light on the underlying mechanism of such unexpected results, suggesting loopholes in the HAGC and changes in export tax rebate rates.

Effect of Doum Fruit (Hyphaene Thebaica) Extract on Some Biochemical Parameters, Enzyme Activities and Histopathological Changes of Pancreas in Alloxan Induced Diabetic Rats

Medicinal plants have been used in the treatment of some diseases like diabetes. One of them is doum fruit extract. The study was conducted to evaluate effect of doum fruit extract on some biochemical parameters, including enzyme activities and histopathological changes of pancreas in alloxan induced diabetic rats. Animals were allocated into five groups of rats, two groups, several as control (one normal and one diabetic rats) and the other three groups were induced diabetic with doum extract (0.5, 1 and 2 g/kg b·wt) which were given every other day by stomach tube for 6 weeks. Evaluation was made for glucose, insulin, lipid profile, enzyme activities, antioxidant activity and histopathological changes of pancreas. The results showed that doum fruit extract decreased blood glucose, insulin, total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), total lipid (TL), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), lactate dyhadreygenase (LDH), alanine and aspartate amino transferase (ALT, AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and Malondialdehyde (MDA) while plasma catalase activity and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) were significantly (p 0.05) increased. Therefore, the results of this study demonstrated that the active compounds present in the doum extract have a positive effect on the biochemical parameters of diabetic rats.

Effect of Calcium and Phosphorus on Nonhaeme Iron Absorption and Haematogenic Characteristics in Rats

The objectives of this study were to use the dry thyme leaves as source of nonhaeme iron and evaluate the effects of calcium, phosphorus and calcium + phosphorus on nonhaeme iron absorption and haematogenic characteristics in rats. Thirty adult male albino rats, weighing 150 ± 5 g were divided into five groups. The first group fed basal diet, the second group fed thyme diet, the third group fed thyme diet + calcium, the fourth group fed thyme diet + phosphorus and the fifth group fed thyme diet + calcium + phosphorus. All groups fed experimental diets for six weeks. Hemoglobin (Hb), haematocrit (Ht), red blood cell (RBC), mean corpuscular volume (MCV), serum iron (SI), serum ferritin (SF), total iron–binding capacity and transferrin saturation were determined at the beginning and the at end of the experiment. Iron in diet, Fe intake, Fe feces and Fe absorption were also evaluated. The results indicated that the lowest Fe absorption was observed in rats fed the thyme diet + calcium and thyme diet + calcium + phosphorus. Supplementation the thyme diet with calcium or calcium + phosphorus decreased the values of Hb, Ht, RBC, SI and SF. However, supplementation the thyme diet with phosphorus did not affect in Ht, RBC and MCV but Hb, SI and SF increased. The results suggest that supplementation the diet with calcium or calcium + phosphorus interfere with iron absorption.
