Objective:To investigate antioxidant and antibacterial activities of Callistemon viminalis(***)***:The essential oil of *** leaves obtained by hydrodistillation was analyzed by GC/*** extracts were tested for total phenolic and flavonoid contents and in vitro antioxidant(DPPH assay)and antibacterial(agar disc diffusion and 96-well micro-plates methods)***:Fourteen components were identified in the essential oil,representing 98.94%of the total *** major components were 1,8-cineole(64.53%)andα-pinene(9.69%).Leaf essential oil exhibited the highest antioxidant activity of(88.60±1.51)%comparable to gallic acid,a standard compound[(80.00±2.12)%].Additionally,the biggest zone of inhibitions against the studied bacterial strains was observed by the essential oil when compared to the standard antibiotic(tetracycline).The crude methanol extract and ethyl acetate fraction had a significant antibacterial activity against the tested bacterial ***:It can be suggested that *** is a great potential source of antibacterial and antioxidant compounds useful for new antimicrobial drugs from the natural *** present study revealed that the essential oil as well as the methanol extracts and ethyl acetate fraction of *** leaves exhibited highly significant antibacterial activity against the tested bacterial strains.

Influence of slope position and aspect on the vegetation attributes and treewater relations in forests of the central Himalayas

As humans we use a blood test to monitor our health and to help diagnose for any current or impending *** analysis can serve a similar function with oil drawn from the engine or transmission of a vehicle or a piece of ***,the standard practice is to send a sample off to an oil testing laboratory,where the sample is subjected to anumber of different chemical and physical *** may take up to 10 days for the receipt of the results of these *** diagnosis,may be that impending engine or transmission problems are detected,but catastrophic failure may have already occurred prior toreceipt of the *** solution is to be able to provide on-site analysis of the oil at the location where the sample is drawn so thatpreventative maintenance can be implemented before expensive failures *** paper discusses new innovative technology,inthe form of an On-Site Analyzer,that is now in place in locations around the USA,where a full analysis of engine,transmission andoil condition can be performed within about five *** tests performed are directly comparable to those performed intraditional oil testing *** complete analysis is fully-automated,and the system can be operated by a minimally-trainedperson,without prior knowledge of oil analysis or instrumentation.A full“expert”mechanical diagnostic report is provided with theanalysis.

While the need for understanding the effects of topographical factors on forest structure and function is well recognized,comprehensive studies are *** study evaluates the effect of slope aspect and slope position on water relations and forest attributes across six forest types occurring between 400 m and 2600 m altitude in the Central Himalaya(27°-38°N).We found that predawn tree water potential and soil water potential were generally higher on moist north slope aspect(-0.78±0.05 MPa and-3.34±0.18 MPa,respectively)than dry south slope aspect(-0.82±0.18 MPa and-3.77±0.18 MPa,respectively).Across six different forests,these values were higher at hill base(-0.71±0.06 MPa and-2.77±0.19 MPa,tree predawn water potential and soil water potential,respectively)than other topographical *** favorable effect of north aspect and hill base was also observed in maintaining soil water and tree water potential during the dry *** attributes,such as species richness,unique species and plant density were also generally higher on north slope and hill base than southern aspect and lowest at hill *** forest types,the hill base provided shelter to 46 unique species,compared to 16-18 at the other positions,thus emphasizing its importance as refugia for species to survive climate change induced *** favorable conditions of hill base position not only contribute to increase in alpha diversity,but also to extended species distributional range.

The phytochrome B mediated light signaling integrates with various phytohormone signalings to control plant immune ***,it is still unclear whether phyB-mediated light signaling has an effect on the biosynthesis of jasmonate during plant defense response against Botrytis *** this study,we demonstrated that phyB-mediated light signaling has a role in this ***,we confirmed that phyb plants were obviously less resistant to *** while phyB overexpressing plants showed significantly enhanced *** also found that the expression of numerous JA biosynthesis genes was promoted upon treatment with red or white light when compared to that of darkness,and that this promotion is dependent on *** with the gene expression results,phyb plants accumulated reduced pool of JA-lle,indicating that phyB-mediated light signaling indeed increased JA *** genetic analysis showed that light-mediated JAZ9 degradation and phyB-enhanced resistance were dependent on the receptor COI1,and that pifl/3/4/5(pi/q)can largely rescue the severe symptom of *** together,our study demonstrates that phyB may participate in plant defense against *** through the modulation of the biosynthesis of JA.

为了研究应力波斜入射作用下岩石的层裂特征,采用颗粒流程序(PFC)模拟了霍普金森压杆(SHPB)层裂试验。选用的试样斜截面角度分别为30°,45°和60°,分析了在5.2 m/s,5.6 m/s和6.2 m/s冲击速度下斜入射波对岩石层裂破坏的影响,并与90°截面试样进行比较。结果表明,当斜截面角度大于45°时,应力波遇斜截面直接反射成拉伸波,且拉伸波与压缩波交替出现,一旦反射拉伸波超过试样某一位置的抗拉强度,试样在该处发生拉伸破坏。当斜截面角度小于45°时,反射波在斜截面内与入射波多次叠加,诱使试样斜截面先发生层裂。此外,基于纵波传播理论,还推导了30°斜截面的应力函数,得出斜截面可能发生层裂的位置,与模拟结果吻合良好。

The sword lily Gladiolus palustris Gaudin is protected on European level and listed in Annexes II and IV of the EC Habitat Directive 92/43/*** grows in nutrient-poor,calcareous meadows in central and eastern *** encroachment in montane meadows of the European Alps as a result of recent land use changes and the abandonment of traditional farming practices threaten the survival of this ***-driven mowing is considered a feasible conservation measure for maintaining high species diversity in abandoned semi-natural *** assess the effects of tenyears of biennial mowing on a grassland community in the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park,Italy(Site of Community Importance,Natura 2000 network),ten25 m2 plots were established whereby four plots were placed in the mowed area,four in the non-mowed area and two in a small non-mowed patch of grassland inside the mowed *** each plot the following variables were recorded,total percentage of plant cover,percentage cover of woody species,percentage cover of herbaceous species,percentage cover and number of flowering ramets of *** and a complete list of species and their percentage *** plots showed a higher species richness than non-mowed *** number of *** flowering ramets and percentage cover increased manifold in mowed plots compared to nonmowed *** resumption of mowing forconservation purposes undertaken by the managing authority halted the process of tree encroachment and avoided a drastic change in plant *** mowing(every second or third year)was demonstrated to be a cost-effective conservation measure in non-productive grasslands to keep grasses at bay in favour of forbs of high conversation value.

Orchid plants develop protocorms upon germination and produce protocorm-like structures called protocorm-like bodies(PLBs)from protocorms and somatic cells via tissue ***-like bodies have broad technical application potential in the orchid industry and their regeneration is a distinct developmental process in the plant ***,little is known about this unparalleled developmental *** this study,we identified a PLB-abundant gene,ethylene response factor(ERF),and a transcription factor named Do ERF5,and determined its important role in PLB regeneration in Dendrobium *** of Do ERF5 in Dendrobium greatly enhanced the PLB regeneration from PLB and stem explants,and upregulated the expression of WOUND-INDUCED DEDIFFERENTIATION(Do WIND)homologs and SHOOT MERISTEMLESS(Do STM),as well as the genes involved in cytokinin biosynthesis(Do IPT)and the cytokinin response factors(Do ARRs).However,silencing Do ERF5 reduced the regeneration rate of PLBs,and downregulated the expression of Do WIND homologs,Do STM and Do *** demonstrated that Do ERF5 is directly bound to the Do STM promoter and regulates its *** addition,overexpression of Do STM in Dendrobium orchid resulted in favorable regeneration of *** results clarify that Do ERF5 regulates the regeneration of PLB by enhancing Do STM *** findings provide new insights into how Do ERF5 mediates PLB regeneration and offers technical potential in improving clonal propagation,preservation,and the bioengineering of orchids.
