Hypothetical Willingness to Share the Genetic Test Results among the Relatives of Individuals with HBOC: A Study on the Japanese Population

Objective: Hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome (HBOC) increases the risk of developing breast, ovarian, prostate, and pancreatic cancers. With the insurance coverage for BRCA genetic testing, the number of individuals diagnosed with HBOC has increased. To use these test results effectively, cascade genetic testing (CGT) is recommended for at-risk relatives;however, it is not yet widely available. The purpose of this study was to investigate the willingness of the general population to share genetic test results and undergo CGT, as well as to analyze the factors influencing these decisions. Based on these findings, the study aimed to identify the types of support needed to support the sharing of genetic test results and promote the use of CGT. Methods: An online survey was conducted with 500 participants (50 men and women from each of the five generations, ranging from 20 to 69 years). Results: Among the HBOC blood relatives, 51.2% wanted to share the genetic results and 71.9% expressed a willingness to undergo CGT. “Matters to be shared with relatives” and “Helpful for my cancer prevention” were identified as key factors promoting the willingness to share the BRCA genetic test results and undergo CGT. The motivation for “Helpful for my cancer prevention” had a particularly strong influence on the decision to undergo CGT. Conclusion: In the general population, there is an emerging understanding that the genetic information impacts not only the individuals but also their entire families and can be valuable for cancer prevention. To promote the sharing of BRCA genetic test results and CGT uptake, the healthcare providers should offer support tailored to each family’s circumstances and establish cancer prevention measures recommended for HBOC.

Amorphous high-entropy materials with abundant defects,coordinatively unsaturated sites,and loosely bonded atoms could exhibit excellent electrocatalytic ***,how to fabricate such ma-terials with nanostructure as well as amorphous structure is still full of *** this work,high-entropy metal organic framework(HE-MOF)is employed as the self-sacrificial template to fabricate FeCoNiCuMnP x high-entropy phosphide/carbon(HEP/C)*** obtained composite shows a het-erostructured fusiform morphology,in which the HEP is encapsulated by a carbon layer,revealing high electron conductivity as well as rich catalytic active sites for oxygen evolution reaction(OER).Beside,it is found that there is a short-range ordered crystal structure in the amorphous phase,which is bene-ficial for revealing high OER catalytic activity as well as good *** a result,the optimum HEP/C composite shows an overpotential 239 mV@10 mA cm^(−2)with a small Tafel slope of 72.5 mV dec^(−1) for catalyzing OER in alkaline solution.

Graphical representation of DNA sequences is one of the most popular techniques for alignment-free sequence comparison. Here, we propose a new method for the feature extraction of DNA sequences represented by binary images, by estimating the similarity between DNA sequences using the frequency histograms of local bitmap patterns of images. Our method shows linear time complexity for the length of DNA sequences, which is practical even when long sequences, such as whole genome sequences, are compared. We tested five distance measures for the estimation of sequence similarities, and found that the histogram intersection and Manhattan distance are the most appropriate ones for phylogenetic analyses.

Designing and fabricating of heterostructured materials with long-term cycling stability and high-rate capacity for the anode of sodium-ion batteries(SIBs)still remain a great ***,micro-flower-like MoS_(2)-modified Co_(9)S_(8)(Co_(9)S_(8)/MoS_(2))with a three-dimensional(3D)heterostructure was first obtained via a simple solvothermal synthesis followed by a solid sulfidation treatment *** a material for the anode of SIBs,the Co_(9)S_(8)/MoS_(2)-based electrode with an initial Co/Mo molar ratio of 1/1(denoted as CM55-S)exhibits the best sodium storage performance with a boosted capacity,superior reversibility(424.5 mAh g^(-1)@2 A g^(-1)at the 1600th cycle,401.1 mAh g^(-1)@5 A g^(-1)at the 800th cycle),and an excellent rate capacity(210.1 mAh g^(-1)@20 A g^(-1)).Density functional theory(DFT)calculations confirm that the Co_(9)S_(8)/MoS_(2)heterostructure has a lower energy barrier(0.30 eV)than the pure Co_(9)S_(8)(0.53 eV).It is expected that such a heterostructured material could be an attractive candidate as the material of the anode for SIBs.

Stool antigen tests for the management of Helicobacter pylori infection

Stool antigen tests(SATs)are noninvasive diagnostic modules for Helicobacter pylori(***)*** types of SATs exist for the diagnosis of *** infection,one based on enzyme immunoassay(EIA)and another on immunochromatography(ICA).SATs do not require expensive chemical agents or specified equipment;hence,they are less expensive compared with the urea breath *** European and Japanese guidelines have shown that EIA-based SATs using monoclonal antibodies are useful for primary diagnosis as well as for the assessment of eradication ***-based tests do not require particular equipment and are therefore useful in developing *** are also useful for the diagnosis of *** infection in children and post gastric surgery *** performed via EIA can assess *** infection in a large number of subjects,almost as well as ***,SATs would be useful or detecting current infection in such a survey to identify and eradicate *** *** accuracy of SATs is lower when the stool samples are unformed or watery,because *** antigens in the stool samples are *** and the interval between stool sample collection and measurement also affect the results of *** choice of test kit depends on the sensitivity and specificity in each region and the circumstances of each patient.

Assessment of physical stress during the perioperative period of endoscopic submucosal dissection

Skeletal muscle mass and quality before preoperative chemotherapy influence postoperative long-term outcomes in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma patients

BACKGROUND Previous reports have focused on muscle mass as a prognostic factor in esophageal *** To investigate how preoperative body type influences the prognosis of patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma who underwent neoadjuvant chemotherapy(NAC)and *** The subjects were 131 patients with clinical stage Ⅱ/Ⅲ esophageal squamous cell carcinoma who underwent subtotal esophagectomy after *** muscle mass and quality were calculated based on computed tomography images prior to NAC,and their statistical association with long-term outcomes was examined retrospectively in this case-control *** The disease-free survival rates in the low psoas muscle mass index(PMI)group vs the high PMI group were 41.3%vs 58.8%(P=0.036),*** the high intramuscular adipose tissue content(IMAC)group vs the low IMAC group,the disease-free survival rates were 28.5%vs 57.6%(P=0.021),*** overall survival(OS)rates for the low PMI group vs the high PMI group were 41.3%vs 64.5%(P=0.008),respectively,and for the high IMAC group vs the low IMAC group,they were 29.9%vs 61.9%(P=0.024),*** of the OS rate revealed significant differences in patients aged 60 years or older(P=0.018),those with pT3 or above disease(P=0.021),or those with lymph node metastasis(P=0.006),aside from PMI and *** analysis demonstrated that pT3 or above hazard ratio(HR):1.966,95%confidence interval(CI):1.089-3.550,(P=0.025),lymph node metastasis(HR:2.154,95%CI:1.118-4.148,P=0.022),low PMI(HR:2.266,95%CI:1.282-4.006,P=0.005),and high IMAC(HR:2.089,95%CI:1.036-4.214,P=0.022)were significant prognostic factors for esophageal squamous cell *** muscle mass and quality before NAC in patients with esophageal squamous cellcarcinoma are significant prognostic factors for postoperative OS.
